ANITA PHILLIPS is a hills artist who working in oils, paints atmospheric and moody landscapes, cloudscapes and the occasional still life. Having grown up in the Wheatbelt of WA, she often depicts themes associated with her family farm and the open expanses of the agricultural landscape. This fascination with skies is a recurring theme in much of her work. Anita’s paintings speak to a sense of nostalgia and moments in time – more an impression than a specific depiction of landscape. Her studio opens on to the verandah of her weatherboard home, a 110-year-old example of an original Kalamunda cottage. Surrounded by gardens, her studio is easily accessed from Recreation Road. Parking available on the street verge. The studio does not have wheel chair access. https://www.anitaphillips.com.au/ 6. HAYWARD STUDIO George Hayward studied Art and Design first at Cambridge and later at Chelmsford in the UK. He pursued his ambition to be a full time painter and also worked in ceramics on the Isle of Wight before emigrating to Australia. Now fortunate to have his own purpose built rammed earth studio in Kalamunda he is able to combine his own painting time with that of running “just paint” art classes. His preference is acrylic although he also works in oils and pastel. With an impatient and spontaneous style, acrylics allow him the freedom he requires. Nature and landscape have always been a major influence in his work. However, he paints whatever stirs his emotions, especially those that rise from deep within. Helen Hayward loves to paint, loves the process of painting and keenly continues to explore techniques which enable her to express feelings and emotions which arise from an intense connection with nature and the landscape. 5.SUSAN CARAMELI is an artist, author and children's book illustrator. She studied at Edith Cowan University (B.A. in Visual Arts). She works in various mediums and has exhibited her works in many galleries in Perth. Susan has won awards in illustration and writing and published her first children's book. Email: scarameli@gmail 0427 758 193

8. SANDIE SCHRODER has been living in the Perth hills for the past 13years. Living amongst the bush environment has directly impacted her artwork. The threat of fire is shown through her works by the techniques sheuses to create her pieces. Sandie burns the archival paper to produce herimages. She has had many close calls when creating these pieces, withthem literally going up in smoke as the burning got out of control, reinforcing the ever present threat of fire, living amongst our volatilebushland. During the Autumn Open Studios Sandie has a solo exhibition atLinton & Kay Galleries Mandoon Estate and most works will be on displaythere. However please drop in to see demonstrations on how she createsher artwork. www.facebook.com/SandieSchroderArtisthttp://www.lintonandkay.com.au/artists/sandie-shroder/

9. SANDRA HALLMy current focusis on Natural Landscape andAnimals. Sometimes I like to lookclosely to show the complexityand beauty there. I include what I see in my garden as well as thehills, and West Australian Northernplaces. I am experimenting withlino and include etching (on lino).Design is paramount and colour.Lately I have been looking at theland as present and also ancientand so include animals from thefossil record of the area. I amcurrently following a few lines ofthought and will have "Works inProgress" at Open Studios.

11. KARIN HOTCHKIN I am a mixed media artist and art educator living in theHills of Kalamunda. I draw inspiration from my local environment and nature. I developed an appreciation for Naïve Art after many years of teaching andbeing exposed to all aspects of art styles. During this time I explored andexperimented with this unaffected, whimsical and charming style of art, developing my own approach that also leans towards Abstract Expressionism. My subject matter explores houses, birds, animals, nature, flowers and thelandscape with a refreshing and conscious decision not to formalise it, butrather to stylise it and engage my inner child. My works have a strong focus oncolour, shape, texture , patterns and composition, delivering it in its simplestform. Many mediums are incorporated into my work including ink, watercolour, acrylic, oils, pastel, pencil, paper and other materials. Art is often executed oncanvas, however I also use paper, board, fabric and recycled materials.

10. MOIRA COURTI am a printmaker andchildren's book illustratorinspired by nature, conservation, folklore andfolkart. I predominantly workwith woodcuts, lino andsilkscreen printing using handmade paper stencils. I enjoythe process of cutting andcarving enormously, as well asthe element of surprise whenI print as I never really knowwhat I am going to get. I embrace rustic imperfection

and happy accidents! My work is in private, school and public collectionsincluding the Peter Williams Collection in the State Library of WA, PrincessMargaret Hospital, St John of God Hospital and the City of Greater Geraldton.

ZIG ZAG CULTURAL CENTREis a dedicated visitor centre andgallery space which provides afocal point for artists. The Centreis designed as a multi-purposefacility and has been developedto encourage greater communityinvolvement and growth ofvisitation to the City of Kalamunda.Combining a Visitor Centre,

Art Gallery and Mason & Bird Café it is designed to enhance the appeal ofthe Perth Hills as a tourism destination.

14. GAIL DOUST KEIRLE grew up on her family farm near Manjimup, deepin the Jarrah and Marri Forests of South Western Australia, before spendingher early adult life in suburban Perth. In 2005 she moved to Lesmurdie inthe hills east of Perth, and again connected to the forests which now inspireher to explore their beauty in watercolours. Starting in 2008, she wasprivileged to have watercolour lessons with Virginia Ward who shared herpassion for the subtle colours and movement of the Swan River waters andforeshores. In 2009 Gail began to attend workshops and then private tuitionwith Lori Neuzerling. Gail’s insights and influences come during hours ofwandering, observing and collecting. Much time is spent meditating, sittingin, and being in awe of, our wonderful forests, deserts and waterways. She also spends a great deal of time in her trusty camper van adventuringaround our wonderful country. Favourite inspirations now come fromhonky nuts, bark, leaves, birds’ nests, lichens and mushrooms and fungi. One of Gail’s greatest pleasures comes from sharing the beauty and depthsof her paintings and this has led to several commissions, a Lion’s Art Awardand many visitors to her Lesmurdie garden and studio.
