Sunbeams Home Learning Term Overview 01.02.21- 12.02.21 English
In English we are working with our term theme of ’Beat, Bang, Boogie’ focusing on different poems and songs, and adding the beat to them, through playing
different music such as shakers. You could use different songs that interest your child, to find a beat and explore the words and sounds e.g. Disney songs – Under the Sea, Little Mermaid.
Introduction to learning session
We start our English sessions, by playing different types and styles of music that the children enjoy, to play a beat to with shakers, and listen to the words.
We then have a look at our sound of the day, from ‘Read write inc’ (see read write inc section later on).
Main activity
We use ‘work packs’ based on the child’s English targets for the term in phonics, reading and writing. Please see key targets sheet for your child to see what
activities they do in this subject.
MathsIn maths we are looking at time. We are working on the days of the week, and ordering key events that happen in a day, such as going to school, lunch time, home time,
and bed time. Introduction to learning session
We start our sessions by counting from 1-10 using our song ‘Zero Superhero’ (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RfIKqkvHTY), and then we count from 1-20 using our song ‘Count and Move’ (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aq4UAss33qA). After we have done this, we then arrange our Numicon from 1-10 (which are shapes
with holes in to represent the numbers from 1-10).
We then look at the days of the week- that there is seven days in a week- the different days- and then our days of the week songhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXMofxtDPUQ
Main Activity
For our main activity we work on ‘work packs’ which focus on the child’s mathematics target for the term.
Please see key targets sheet for your child, to see what activities they do, based on their target.
RWIWe have started looking at Read, write, inc, which is our phonics scheme to help children learn their sounds. We are looking at the sounds ‘m,a,d,s,t,p,i,n’, this half term. We are looking to see if we can make, write and
read the different sounds.
How the read, write inc letters are formed when writing.
Science (cross curriclar with music) In Science we are looking at how science travels through soundwaves, which are vibrations that are sent into our ears, to send
a message to our brains. This creates sound. We have been looking at how a sound wave might look, by shaking a scarf and
playing music louder and quieter to see the waves get bigger and smaller. We have also put rice on a drum to see the sound
waves vibrate. We have also watched a YouTube video which shows sand and water moving to the different sound wave.

Can you find different noises and sounds in your house?

shape of a music note? See the music stave sheet.
Week 2 wc 08.02.21-
Do some painting to different types of music (fast/
slow) does your painting change when the music
changes?
PSHE In PSHE we are looking at being more
independent in our daily routine, by helping
to brush our teeth and dress ourselves.
We are also looking at what we like and
dislike by using different types of foods,
each week.
Activity
• Have you helped in your daily routine
this week?
• Try some different types of foods, use
the symbols to choose if you like or
don’t like a certain food. With help can
you make a list of what foods you do
and don’t like?
