Sun Moon and Earth

Moon• The Moon is 3,475 km• The Moon has 1/6 of the gravity we have on Earth• The Moon has no atmosphere

Earth

• The Earth is 12,720 km• Earth’s gravity is six times stronger

than the moon’s gravity• Earth has an atmosphere. Earth’s

atmosphere is divided into five sections

SUN

• The Sun weighs 1,392 million km• The Sun is a big ball of hot gases.

Most of the gas is hydrogen (70%)and helium (28%)

• There is no gravity on the Sun• The surface of the cooler spots on

the sun is 5,000 c (10,000 f.)The avrage temperature at the center of the sun is 15,000,000 c (27,000,000 f)! That’s hot

Landforms

• The Moon has different Landforms like Dome, Maria, and Craters

• The Earth has Moutains, Plateaus, Valleys, Deserts, Dunes, Islands, Plains, Rivers, Oceans, and Glaciers

• The Sun has solar winds, solar flares, and sun spots. Solar winds cause the arora lights, solar flares are storms on the sun, and sun spots are cooler spots on the sun

Weathering and Erosion

• The Moon doesn’t have an atmosphere so there is no weathering or erosion

• Earth has an atmosphere so weathering and erosion can happen. The rocks can be broken down by rain and dirt and sand can be caried around by the wind

• Weathering and erosion doesn’t exsist on the sun. It’s too hot!

Rotation• It takes 27.5 days(about a month)for the

Moon to rotate on it’s axis. In four weeks, the moon goes through phases called the Moon Phases

• The length of a day on Earth is 24 hours. The Earth orbits around the Sun. It takes 365 days to make a full rotation.(one year)

• It takes one month for the Sun to rotate on it’s axis. The Sun doesn’t orbit around ANY planets

Water

• There is no water on the Moon. Though there is some frozen water in ice form on both poles on the Moon

• About 71% of Earth’s surface is covered with water, and the oceans hold about 96.5% of all Earth’s water

• Again, the Sun is too hot

Time

• It takes the Moon around 29 Days to revolve, or orbit around the Earth

• The Earth revolves around the Sun. The Sun doesn’t orbit the Earth or Moon

Fun Facts

• The Seasons are caused by the Earth’s tilt• The Sun keeps Earth from getting too hot or

too cold. We are the perfect distance• The High and Low tides are caused by the

Moon’s gravitational pull• Say if you were 84 pounds, on the moon, you

would be 13.9 pounds
