We are fortunate to call Summit County home and believe that it is imperative that we support our community by giving back. Combined with Slifer Smith & Frampton in the Vail Valley, we
have contributed a total of $1.5 million in donations. We would like to highlight some of the local organizations that do an amazing job of making our area the very best place to live.
Summit County Animal Control and Shelter serves to protect, set standards, and regulate domestic animals’ care and control. In doing so, they provide protection for Summit County residents from damage and harassment by domestic animals through the enforcement of regulations. The shelter provides care for domestic animals and offers the opportunity for adoption into responsible and safe homes.
This a Clementine, a spayed female, 4-year-old pit bull mix. She loves people and children. She is very mellow at home and her favorite past time is lying by the fi re.
Established in 1984, The Summit Foundation is a community foundation dedicated to improving quality of life in our mountain areas.
The Foundation strives to inspire donors, build partnerships, and mobilize resources to support community organizations in Summit County (and the surrounding communities) that foster Health & Human Service, Education, Art & Culture, Sports & Recreation, and Environmental Stewardship. Over $2 million in grants are annually distributed to nearly 100 nonprofi t organizations and over 100 college scholarships are awarded to local graduating seniors. In 2013, The Foundation created the Youth Giving Council, which teaches high school students about philanthropy and is allowing them to participate in a grant awards process.
The Lake Dillon Theatre Company strives for high quality entertainment and educational opportunities for their guests and residents, as well as giving back to the community in a multitude of ways. Through donations of time, entertainment packages, and merchandise, the theatre also provides tuition scholarships to at least one graduating senior planning to major in the performing arts. The L.D.T.C. believes the performing arts are an important part of any community and can serve as a tool for enhancing the community through awareness and education.
Founded in 1979, Advocates for Victims of Assault has grown to support victims of domestic violence as well as victims of sexual assault,
accidents, death, and other trauma. The vision of Advocates for Victims of Assault is to help create a violence-free community in Summit County through safety, support, education, and accountability with the ultimate goal of eliminating violence in all forms and promoting peace throughout Summit County.
The WWFA organization provides family adventures, which includes everything the family will need such as: transportation, lodging, activities, meals, and counseling sessions, to disabled Warriors and their families. WWFA strives to provide uplifting adventures for all branches of the military, from around the entire country, who have suffered from injuries in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. The signature event of the year is the Family Ski Week! The week-long program in Breckenridge, features one-on-one adaptive ski and snowboard lessons and family counseling for 10-12 Warriors and their families. Founded in 2008, this unique Wounded Warriors Family Adventures program strives to achieve three goals: to broaden the Warriors’ perceptions of what they can achieve, reconnect family members through enhanced communication and understanding, and to provide a support network among families dealing with similar life challenges.
SUMMIT COUNTY RESCUE GROUPIn 1972 a local climber, climbing East Thorne, fell and broke his hip. With the very diffi cult rescue by the Forest Service, it became apparent that Summit County was in dire need of a search and rescue (SAR) group. The Summit County Rescue Group (SCRG) was formed later that year. Now, 40 years later, SCRG is an all-volunteer team with 65 members and is one of the largest and busiest in the country. An all-volunteer team, SCRG
responds in all seasons and weather conditions to whatever incidents occur in the back country. SCRG receives 100 to 200 requests for help each year, and these requests usually translate into 50 to 80 "all-call" missions. Lost and injured hikers and skiers, illnesses, ATV, and snowmobile accidents, vehicle rollovers on Jeep trails, aircraft accidents, and avalanches, whatever the issue SCRG responds at any time of the day or night. SCRG is there for every back country emergency.
