¡Felices vacaciones!

snow here.Gavin: Oops, I forgot. It’s summer there. Come to
Coronet Peak. There’s a lot of snow here. Julie: I don’t understand...Gavin: You see...New Zeland is in the Southern
Hemisphere, so the seasons aren’t at the sametime as in England. January is a summermonth for us and July is in the middle ofwinter.
Julie: What happens at Coronet Peak during the restof the year?
Gavin: Spring begins around September and the skiresort closes for the New Zealand summer. Then at the end of autumn, around May, itstarts to snow and the new skiing seasonbegins.
Julie: Wow! It really is an upside-down world -summer in January...winter in July!

Many people think that Stonehenge was a temple of theDruids.
Who are the Druids? Are they people with specialpowers?
No. Druids are ordinary people like you and me. Most ofthem work in ordinary jobs during the year. They areteachers, shopkeepers or office workers. Druids have gotfamilies. They live in ordinary houses and wear ordinaryclothes. They only wear their special white tunics whenthey go to a Druid meeting or ceremony.
Few people know that the British Prime Minister, WinstonChurchill, was a Druid. Like many Druids, he knew a lotabout science, astronomy and old traditions.
The most sacred place to Druids is Stonehenge, andtheir most important ceremony of the year is onmidsummer’s day.

I’ve got a great story, everybody. Listen to this! One summer day an old man was sitting in his garden. He was sitting at a table, under his favourite tree. Theman was very hungry. His wife was in the kitchenmaking dinner. Suddenly, a big fish fell onto the table.“It’s a present from God!” the man shouted. The man’swife heard him shouting. She ran outside and saw thefish. “How did that fish get here?” she thought. Theman’s wife looked up at the sky and saw a big bird. Then she understood. “The bird caught the fish in thelake near here and flew away with it. As the bird wasflying over our garden, it dropped the fish. The fish fellonto the table and now I’m going to cook it for dinner!”
