By its geographical, historical, cultural but also human proximity with some Europeans, Africans and Mediterranean countries, Algeria beneficiates of a cosmopolitan culture where Amazigh influ-ence melts in other European, Mediterranean and Arab components. The Largest country in Africa, Situated in its north, in between Tunisia and Morocco, Algeria opens its doors and invites you to explore its magnificent land, and different cultures, because living diversity has always been Algeria’s first motto.

Algerians are of mixed ancestry, mainly of Berber or Arab origins, but also with descen-

dants of Europeans (Such as the French, Roman or Spanish) and Sub-Sahar Africans.

Skin, hair and eye color vary greatly. In the Sa-haran regions of the south, some communities

remain nomadic or semi-nomadic, such as The Tuaregs and Gnawa. The National identity of Algeria is based on a combination of Berber and Arab cultures. The strong influence of Islam in all aspects of Algerian life creates a sense of Identity that ex-tends beyond national boundaries to include other Arab na-tions. Opposition to French colonizers also has been a unit-

ing force in defending a sense of identity in Algeria.

The vast majority of Algerians are Sunni Muslims, though in some places, the are minority of groups of Christians and Jewish people. There is debate among many Algerians about the place of religion. In most households, Islam has a strong influence over daily life. But attitude vary in terms of how conserva-tively or otherwise the religion is practiced, customs generally remain traditional; for example, it is still common for marriages to be arranged between families.

Algeria’s culture has been strongly inuenced by its history; considering it has represented the home of many cultures: Ottomans, Spanish & French, its culture has also been inuenced by many other aspects such as: literature, music, arts and crafts.Arabic is the ocial language in Algeria. It’s spoken by around 82% of the population except for some regions in the north, of Berber origin, that speak their native language called “Tamazight”.As a result of the French colonialism, the French language is considered as a second language in the country.

Algerian FoodThroughout history, Algeria has hosted various populations, from the Ber-

bers, Arabs, Ottomans, Romans, French and the Spanish, each culture left its mark on the Algerian cuisine and provided the Algerians with an eclectic mix of flavors, aromas and textures, served in a multitude of ways and very pleasing to the palate. You will be able to taste the distinct flavors of cumin, caraway, marjoram, coriander and fennel in Algeri-an cuisine. Typically lamb and chicken are used in meals as well as seafood from the Mediterranean. Algeria’s national dish is Couscous, which is steamed and then served with meat, vegetables and sauce.

The summer sunshine school is one of the agship and classic projects of AIESEC Benak and AIESEC in Algeria. It is a 6 weeks project that consists of delivering foreign language courses to youth aged be-tween 15 and 25 years old. In its 7th Edition, besides learning languages “SSS” aims to give the students the necessary knowledge and condence to share their ideas, speak in public, work on groups, enjoy learning, and face their fears.SSS-7th- strives to support the students to develop their selves, we seek to get the student out of his cocoon, because once out of his comfort zone, he will make an impact and so con-tribute in making Algeria a better place.
