This intricate ART known as Chainstitch originated centuries ago in KASHMIR. Chainstitch is done by Hook rather than by Needle. The hook is referred to as “ARI”. This art covers a much larger area than needlework in the same amount of time. All the embroidery is executed on a white cotton fabric which is pre-shrunk. Tiny stitches are used to cover the entire area – the figures or motifs are worked in striking colors. Stitches ought to be small, evensized and neat. Our chainstitch is handmade and made with natural fibres and dyes. Kashmir Hand Embroidered Shawls and Jackets are woven in Kashmir. The embroidery is done by hook rather than needle. The hook is refered to as ARI. Motifs here are the well known flower design finely worked in concentric rings of chainstitch.

i-India - Street Child Project: giving street children a future
i-india is a fully registered NGO established in 1993 now helping over 3000 children every day in Jaipur. One of i-india’s key projects is Ladli, a Vocational Training centre where children from both the street and shelter homes voluntarily participate in jewellery and handicraftmaking. Schooling as well as dance, computer, music and art lessons and a hot meal are also provided. Ladli is a relaxed and pleasant environment where children gain confidence and self-esteem.
The jewellery is sold in Australia , Europe and here in Singapore and each child participating in Ladli is paid monthly. Jaipur is known for its gems and artisan jewellery and it is hoped that the children will forge a lifelong career with the skills they have learnt.
100% of profits from jewellery sales goes back to i-india.
