WHAT WE DOThe Marlowe is commited to helping writers find their voice and to provide vital opportunities for them to develop their work for performance.

Through our Roar programme, we give playwrights the chance to develop their work through supportive mentoring, professional advice and the chance to hear their work performed by professional actors.

Roar supported writers have successfully developed their work into professionally produced plays, including Titas Halder’s Run The Beast Down, that recently completed a critically acclaimed run at The Marlowe Studio and London’s Finborough Theatre.

The Marlowe's interest and support for Run The Beast Down provided the catalyst for pushing my first play into production. The Roar programme allowed us to investigate the play in a creative and well-supported environment.

I'm delighted to have been given the platform from which we could make that hardest of things happen; getting the play on.”

Titas Halder, writer of Run The Beast Down.

Willy Russell’s Shirley ValentineStarring Jodie Prenger

Willy Russell’s heart-warming comedy premiered in 1986 and took the world by storm, and was then adapted into an Oscar-nominated film. Now, on its 30th anniversary, Jodie Prenger stars in the first major revival of this national treasure.

English Touring Opera present

Gilbert & Sullivan’s Patience and Puccini’s ToscaETO presents its first Gilbert and Sullivan production, and a night of Italian passion. Patience pokes fun at the eccentric aectations of barely-disguised Victorian celebrities, including Oscar Wilde. Willowy poets, sighing maidens, hearty milkmaids and burly o£cers – all become targets of Gilbert and Sullivan’s razor-sharp wit. Expect plenty of tunes and humour as fresh today as it was at the first performance.

Tosca is Puccini’s visceral depiction of love in the midst of a war-torn Rome, and one of the world’s best-loved operas, brimming with lust, corruption and political intrigue.

Of Mice And MenA powerful story about friendship and holding on to your dreams.Set in the trying times of the Great Depression, Of Mice And Men is a powerful portrait of the American spirit and a heartbreaking testament to the bonds of friendship and what it means to be human.

This landmark play by the Nobel Prize winner John Steinbeck is the story of George and Lennie, two migrant ranch workers who dream of owning their own ranch.

Still relevant to modern times, this is a moving story about trying to hold on to your dreams and friendships during di£cult times.

From the producers of Avenue Q, The Crucible, American Idiot and Flashdance comes this American classic for all time.
