WELComE WorD

dear participants,

welcome to the fi fth edition of the summer school on management of creativity in an innovation society, a collaborative program between hec montréal and the university of Barcelona.

the summer school project aims at bringing together people with different worldviews and experiences – academics, industrialists, artists, policy-makers, students - from different cultures and different age groups, in order to discover through a shared experience the multiple dimensions of creativity. during two intensive weeks, the participants will work together to learn methods and practices of creativity, will co-create new business models, will collaborate in international creative projects, and will co-design new solutions for professional or social issues.

one of the main outcomes of the summer school is the progressive building of a community of passionate people, who beyond the program, will continue creating common projects, exchanging ideas, and to apply these creative insights and methods in their daily professional activities with a head full of possibilities for improving their organizations, their careers, and their networks.

the participants of this unique and exclusive experience will fi nd inspiration in the vibrant cities of montréal and Barcelona, in the myriad of creative activities, industries and cultural institutions that are at the heart of the dynamism of these two cities. participants will be constantly solicited and challenged as they move through the program and experience new places and spaces where creativity emerges and develops in montréal and in Barcelona.

let the journey begin!

creatively yours,

Patrick Cohendet – HEC Montréal Laurent Simon – HEC Montréal Lucy Stojak – HEC Montréal Aïda Bravo – Universitat de Barcelona Jaume Valls – Universitat de Barcelona

montreal has a well developped transit system that relies mostly on its underground metro system. although it does not cover the entire island of montreal, the metro system services the most dense areas including downtown and numerous universities.

fares are as follows:- a one-way ticket is $ 3,00; - a ten-ticket strip $ 24,50; - a tourist card costs $ 9,00 per day or $18,00 / 3 days; - the weekly card is $ 23,75.

transfers are valid for an hour and a half on the entire bus system, in one direction, and entitle you to take the bus to the metro or vice versa at no additional cost.

the bus and metro system operates seven days a week. most of the bus lines run from 5:30 am to 1:00 am. certain buses run 24 hours a day. the metro system comprises four numbered, colour-coded lines. the first train leaves at 5:30 am and the last leaves at 11:00 pm or 1:00 am depending on the line.

the metro runs from 5:30 am to 00:15 am on the st-michel /snowdon line and from 5:30am to 1:00 am on all the other lines.

chartered buses will be used for most professional visits.

Barcelona has a clean, punctual, air-conditioned metro system that will take you to most of the major sites.

most of the city centre is pedestrianized and the roads that go through the centre can be quite small and congested. the Barcelona public transportation system or walking remain your best options.

taxis are an affordable alternative to public transport. taxis must charge you the amount displayed on the meter. a small surcharge may apply for extra-luggage.

tipping is welcome but not required.
