MESSAGE FROM DON RUTHERFORD, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR 1988 -2011 Over the past 23 years I have watched this program guide grow, evolve and change very much in response to how the House itself has evolved over that almost quarter century. I have been delighted to see how the community has responded to our programs and services and I take great pride in the fact that we consistently get positive feedback about our programs, services and most importantly our staff. You have told us over and over again that you feel welcome, respected and assisted. Those times that you have not, we have tried to address your concerns as quickly and respectfully as possible. It has truly been an honour to be a part of such a vibrant and important organization. As I prepare for the next chapter in my life I know the House will continue to be a vital and meaningful part of the lives of those who come through our doors. My successor, Julie Norton, is well aware of the depth of the roots of Neighbourhood House in our community. I know she will tend to the future growth of this organization with great care, humanity and integrity. At the risk of repeating myself – thank you, it’s been a privilege. Supported Child Development (SCDP) is a community-based program that assists families of children with extra support needs to access inclusive child care that meets family needs. The program is intended to serve children from birth to 12 years, with services for youth 13 – 19 years available in some communities. SCDP operates under the principles of inclusion and family centred practice. SCDP uses a multi-disciplinary team approach.
