Press and hold the garage door

button inside the garage door. This

    overrides the door built-in safety

    features.

This will not work with your remote

    garage door opener.

When you get home, make sure the infrared eyes at the

bottom of the track are clear of cobwebs and pine straw.

That may be all it takes to get your remote working again.

Keep Forgetting to Close Your Garage Door?

The answer is the Garage Guardian Automatic Garage Door

Closer and Timer by Black Devices, LLC.

Fifteen minutes installation time and $40 in cash gets you

an easy to install automatic garage door closer. You can

program how many minutes before the door closes

    automatically.

Here is a link to buy the automatic closer on Amazon

If this installation is beyond your skill set, I would be happy

to install it for you for a nominal fee.

Home AC System Not Blowing ColdAir?Check your HVAC filters. If they are clogged with dirt,

replacing them may fix your cooling problem.

These directions are very general, but

you should get an idea of the steps

    involved in examining and replacing

    your filters.

Turn the HVAC system off. Mine

has a light switch that you flip in the furnace room.

Locate the filters and take them out. If they are dirty,

replace them with the same type and size filters.

Once the filters are replaced, turn the HVAC unit

back on. Make sure the thermostat associated with

the HVAC unit is turned off for both heating and

cooling. Then adjust the fan to On from Automatic.

You want the fan to run constantly.

If the lack of air flow through the filters was the

problem, your air conditioner line is frozen. Running

the fan constantly will thaw the line. Give it 2 hours

Turn on air conditioner from the thermostat. Change

Real Life Story of Repairing FoggedCar Headlights

My experience with repairing "fogged" car

    headlights.

Here are two stories concerning the repair

or restoration of fogged car headlights.

    Jeep Grand Cherokee

The least expensive solution purchased from an auto

parts store failed. Rubbing a thick liquid with a cloth

did not make remove any of the fogging,

Using a system that had wet/dry sand paper of

various grits and a drill attachment to apply cleaner

did make a big difference in the amount of fogging

remaining on the headlights. I spent 45 minutes per

    headlight assembly.

If I ran my hand across the surface of the headlight,

it was smooth as opposed to rough and pitted before

the treatment. Unfortunately, it appeared that the

lens was also fogged inside the sealed beam. There

isn't a way of taking the sealed beam apart on this

car. The result was a headlight beam that was

    functional, but not showroom new.

Someone suggested a replacement part from a third

party vendor on Amazon. The pair of headlights,

including new halon bulbs was about $100. Research

on YouTube resulted in a installation video. On this

car, the headlight assembly is removed via one very

long screw that can be removed easily with a socket

wrench. Given that the two blubs that were included

cost $30 in an auto parts store, I thought replacing

the headlight assembly was an economically way to

    go.

    Saab 95 Aero Station Wagon

I used the leftover wet/dry sand paper and drill

attachment solution from my attempt with the Jeep.

Again, the result was not perfect because the inner

    lens was fogged.

This cars sealed headlight assembly could be taken

apart, but based on internet research, getting the

sealed headlight assembly together without breaking

something was risky. Buying a new set of headlight

assemblies was going to be very pricey. Therefore,

given the age of the car and the improved headlight

beam functionality, I went no further in trying to

    make things better.

    Lessons Learned

How much is a new headlight assembly? Is it

    easy to install?

If you want to try to repair the existing

    headlight assemblies yourself, spend the

$30-$45 for a 3M Headlight Repair Kit. This

seems to be the best one to try.
