• School Tennis Report: (Read by Dean Hafermann) Prep School Tennis players have enjoyed another highly successful year with over 30 children competing for the school. The National IAPS Tennis Championships held at Millfield School after the end of the summer term was perhaps the highlight with five National titles across the U11 and U13 age groups. Very well done to Ralph Bartlett who won the U11 National IAPS Boys title. Well done to the Year 7/8 Girls team who finished runners-up in the LTA National Finals in December and to the Year 7 and 8 Boys Team who narrowly lost in the Regional Schools Team Final to Reeds School in November by the cruellest of margins on a tie-break shoot to just miss out on qualifying for the National Finals.

This summer we have won 8 County team titles across all age groups which is one of our most successful years ever in these events. A number of our players have enjoyed success in individual tournaments but a special mention to William Anderson who has attended and competed for the East Region. He has also been invited to attend a National camp in July and has represented Suffolk. Rocco Richardson won an LTA Grade 3 event in Norwich and Justice Hall was a finalist in a National Tour event in December and qualified for a Tennis Europe event.

County Finals Year 3 and Under Boys winners Gold medals to be presented to Rocco Richardson, Ned Cailes County Finals Year 3 and Under Mixed team 3rd place Bronze medals to be presented to Rocco Richardson, Caitlin Magee County Finals Year 5 and Under Mixed team 2nd place Silver medals to be presented to Charlotte James, Toby Williams, James Bettley, Ned Chapman

• Equestrian: (Rosettes and Certificates to be presented) Libby Hart qualified for the Trailblazers National Dressage Championships in July. Patience Leslie qualified for the Sunshine Tour by finishing 1st in the 60 & 65 cm class on her pony Belle.

• Golf : (Trophies and medals presented) Eighteen pupils enjoyed the beginner’s golf activity this term. This activity allows pupils the chance to learn the basics and become good enough to join the advanced group at Flempton Golf Club. This year several were close but only George Watson showed all the skills and maturity to move up this development pathway, so well done to him. Hopefully we will see more golfers making this step up next year.

The highlights in Prep School golf were: Josh Izod:

• Won the U12 IAPS Championship and only missed out by 1 point on winning

the U13 category which is a fantastic achievement. Josh also had many

successes at club and county level.

Henry Meadows:

• Won the Culford Order of Merit by 1 point over myself, this was a great performance as this tournament runs throughout the year and includes senior school golfers as well.

• He was 3rd place in the U11 category of the IAPS Championships. • Henry also becomes a Golf Scholar as of September.

• Adam Waterman won the West Suffolk Schools Non Handicap Competition.

• Athletics:

Athletics continues to be enjoyed by a range of pupils. The term started early with the Third Form competing in the Suffolk round of the Schools Cup. Some good results from this competition, including William Smith and Matthew Beardmore in the 1500m, and a superb finish by Holly Reynolds in the 800m. After Half term, the Bedford Eastern Prep Schools Competition was the main focus. Guy Salisbury (U2) excelled in both the High Jump and 200m events, to qualify for the National Prep School Athletics Finals in Birmingham. The younger pupils took their opportunity to show what they could do, with the U11 Athletics Team winning the Western Area Quadkids Competition. An exciting competition, and they are looking forward to doing it all again at the Suffolk Schools Finals on the first day of the holidays. The U12 Athletics Teams performed exceptionally well against 16 other schools from West Suffolk to both finish 2nd in their competitions and so qualify for the County Athletics Finals. Outstanding performances in the U12s came from Lucy Sansom-Jamil. Harry Wakefield and Guy Salisbury – who were all amongst the top 5 scoring athletes in the initial competition out of more than 130 competitors.

U13 First XI Cricket report: Read by Max Brais The First XI has developed in to a side that can beat most schools in the region on their day. William Bettley has performed consistently well through-out the summer with bat and has often stared with the ball too. The boys played particularly well in our last game against Town Close. William and Alex Bettley had a second wicket partnership of 52 runs off 53 balls and together kept us in the game until the very end. Overall, a full and well-rounded season of development.

Performing Arts: Announced by Mr Clay Music Report read by Molly-Anne Gimson This year has been an excellent one for music with many highlights, such as the inter-house singing competition and Culford’s Got Talent. Several pupils have taken and passed music exams, many of these with merit or distinction. Melisse Markesteijn has also been awarded a place at the Royal Dutch Conservatoire for music, a high achievement for which she must be commended.

The school choir has performed to Old Culfordians at a Remembrance Day event, at Risby Care Home’s ‘Winter Wonderland’ event, at Opera in the Park and in school concerts as well as weekly at Collective Worship.

Over the course of the year there have been over 220 performances in concerts which is testament to the hard work and dedication of all pupils learning to play an instrument in the school.

As they prepare to go into Lower Third, Lara Sykes and Imogen Gotch have been awarded a music scholarship and a music exhibition respectively. Alice Wilson and Molly-Anne Gimson have also been awarded music exhibitions awards as they move into the Senior School.
