Our Camps Camp Holloway Camp Holloway exemplifies the rich history of Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee. The camp, located on 80 beautiful acres just 45 minutes north of Nashville, is named after Josephine Groves Holloway, the founder of the first African-American Girl Scout troop in Nashville. Camp Holloway is an art based camp that includes a pool, shower house, a 40-foot climbing/rappelling tower, archery range, hiking trails, low challenge course, a tree-climbing area and sleeping units of cabins and platform tents. The lodge is a beautiful air-conditioned building where the majority of meals are served. Camper groups are limited to 16 girls , between the ages of 5-17 years of age with camper capacity at 96 campers. Camp Sycamore Hills Camp Sycamore Hills located in Ashland City, TN provides experiences for girls between 5 – 17 years of age. The camp spans over 742 acres of beauti- ful bluffs, woodlands, meadows, streams and rolling hills. Activities include horseback riding, rappel bluff, canoeing, archery, tree climbing, art, outdoor skills, high and low challenge course, and zip line. Q. What are the benefits of working at summer camp? A. Benefits include the opportunity to serve others, make a difference in girls’ lives, work in the beautiful outdoors, create new friendships that can last a lifetime, receive quality training and certifications, build a strong resume and get paid as well as save money on room and board. Earn enough to pay for textbooks for a year.

Q. Does camp offer college credit or internships? A. We are willing to host interns, work study and independent study students and to complete the necessary paperwork and supervision requirements.

Q. What are the campers like? A. Campers are girls between the ages of 5-17. Many campers are in a Girl Scout troop, although this is not a requirement for camp. Our campers come from Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama and other surrounding states.

Q. Will I get any time off? A. Each staff member has two hours each day in which you may leave camp property, except during orientation and closing week. Additional unpaid time off may be scheduled with prior approval. Staff members have a quiet space to relax, and read.

Q. What activities are offered? A. Girls participate in activities such as hiking, creative arts, drama, swimming, creek-stomping, low and high challenge courses, dance, tree-climbing, sports and nature. Canoeing and horseback-riding are available at Camp Sycamore Hills only.

Q. Where will I sleep? A. Staff members, as well as campers, stay in a variety of living quarters including cabins, screened cabins and platform tents. All staff members are on duty overnight and expected to be attentive to the campers’ needs.

Q. What is a typical day at camp? Rise and shine (7:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m.) Flag ceremony Breakfast Activity periods Lunch Rest hour Activity periods Dinner Flag ceremony Evening activities Bedtime (9:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.)

Q. Do I need training? A. Staff orientation is provided prior to campers’ arrival. Some positions require prior experience and training. Additional training is available for specific program positions which take place during enrichment training week.

As a condition of employment, First Aid and CPR certification are required. We provide the opportunity for this training for $45, or you may obtain training from other sources. Proof of First Aid and CPR training from a nationally recognized organization is required. We do not accept online training for First Aid and CPR training.

Q. What is the policy on tattoos and body piercing? A. Tattoos and body piercing (including facial piercing) must be covered at all times.

Q. What will my schedule be?A. Schedules are varied. Most staff will work Sunday – Friday. Camp Sycamore employee schedules vary (Sunday-Friday, Tuesday-Saturday, and Wednesday-Monday) depending on your responsibilities, unit and program assignments, and registration numbers for the program.

Questions you should ask yourself before deciding to work at Girl Scout camps:• Are you prepared to work six days a week with energy and enthusiasm to make sure campers are having a good time, putting their needs ahead of your own?• Are you willing to be a role model to campers and other staff every day for up to ten weeks?• Do you truly enjoy camping, the outdoors and living in an outdoor environment? • Do you get along well with most children and adults, even those from very different backgrounds than your own? • Does the Girl Scout Promise conflict with any of your personal beliefs? Counseling Team:

Unit Counselorminimum age 18; Salary Range: $210 - $225Directly supervise campers in groups of 6 – 16 in daily activities and foster a positive camp experience. Create a safe and welcoming environment for the campers.

Lead Unit Counselorminimum age 20; salary range: $210 - $250 Responsible for campers and counselors in the units and for managing unit schedules. Must have the ability to supervise, organize and provide safe, fun activities. One year of resident camp experience preferred.

Leadership Counselor (Camp Sycamore Hills)minimum age 21; salary range: $210 - $250 Responsible for campers and counselors in the CIT, INTERN and Leadership programs. Develop and deliver Leadership Training. Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving background.

Site Team:

Facilities & Logistics Lead (Camp Sycamore Hills)minimum age 20; salary range: $210 - $300Manage cleaning staff and the cleaning of facilities. Work with counselors and campers to create a clean, welcoming environment. Responsible for the kapers and the cleaning program at camp. Supervisory experience preferred. Valid driver’s license required. On-site living not required.

Facilities Counselor (Camp Sycamore Hills)minimum age 16; salary range: $190 - $250Responsible for cleaning community buildings and assisting with kapers and cleaning program at camp. On-site living is not required.

Health Team:

Health Care Supervisorminimum age 21; salary range: $210 - $400Administer all medications, communicate with parents, maintain health records and handle all medical concerns. Current RN certification or experienced health care professional preferred. Valid driver’s license required. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

Health Care Assistant (Camp Sycamore Hills) minimum age 21; salary range: $200 - $300 Work with health care supervisor attending to medical concerns and maintaining health records. Nursing students or experienced health care professional preferred. Valid driver’s license required. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

Health Team Assistant (Camp Sycamore Hills) minimum age 18; salary range: $216 - $234 Work with the health care team to manage health records, correspond with parents, and assist with basic medical care.

PositionsPositions are available at both camps unless specified. Positions include room and board; most require on-site living. All staff must be able to direct camper behavior in positive ways and assist in emergency situations to keep the campers safe. All positions require working in the outdoors, which includes regular exposure to weather conditions such as heat, humidity, rain and storms as well as insects and wildlife. Staff members will be walking several miles a day at a brisk pace and on uneven terrain, and should be able to climb stairs and lift up to 20 pounds. Salary range is weekly.

Program Team:

Culinary Arts Counselorminimum age: 19; salary range: $210-$250Responsible for implementing age-appropriate culinary arts programs with positive energy to build excitement in the kitchen. Assist with general unit programming and management. Experience in cooking education preferred.

Media Counselorminimum age: 19; salary range: $210-$250Responsible for photography and documenting daily camp life using an online photo gallery. Develop media presentations for parents, staff, and campers. Implement age-appropriate media programs as needed. Experience with photography, uploading, and posting photos required.

Nature Counselorminimum age 19; salary range: $210 - $250Develop and implement age-appropriate nature programming using resources available at camp. Assist with general unit programming and management. Experience in outdoor education preferred.

Acting/Theatre Counselorminimum age 19; salary range: $210 - $250 Responsible for implementing age-appropriate drama program with positive energy to build excitement in the arts. Assist with general unit programming and management. Experience in dance, theater and music needed.

Dance/Music Counselorminimum age 19; salary range: $210 - $250Responsible for implementing age-appropriate dance and music programs with positive energy to build excitement in the arts. Assist with general unit programming and management. Experience in dance and music is needed.

Arts Counselorminimum age 18; salary range: $210 - $225Responsible for implementing age-appropriate arts and crafts program. Assist with general unit programming and management. Previous children’s arts and crafts experience preferred; must be creative and organized.

Equestrian Counselor (Camp Sycamore Hills)minimum age 18; salary range: $210 - $250Care for horses and assist in supervising and leading riding programs. Assist with general unit programming and management. Must be a confident horseback rider and have knowledge of safety around horses. Riding instructor experience preferred.

Challenge Course Counselorminimum age 18; salary range: $210 - $225 Supervise high/low challenge course, rapelling and tree climbing in a safe and positive manner. Experience as a participant or facilitator preferred. Assist with general unit programming and management. Training provided on site during enrichment training

Aquatics Counselorminimum age 18; salary range: $210 - $225Provide a safe and fun aquatics program including canoeing, swimming and tubing. Assist with general unit programming and management. Current First Aid and CPR certification required. Canoeing and tubing are only offered at Camp Sycamore Hills (training for small craft or swift water canoe is preferred).

Archery Counselorminimum age 18; salary range: $210 - $250Manage a safe and fun archery program. Assist with general unit programming. Archery experience as a participant or facilitator preferred. Archery certification required; course available during enrichment training.

Outdoor Skills Counselor (Camp Sycamore Hills)minimum age 19; salary range: $210 - $250Create and implement an outdoor skills program using the Girl Guide to Girl Scouting handbooks. Outdoor skills includes outdoor cooking, hiking, tent pitching, knots and Leave No Trace. Assist with general unit programming and management.

Lead Program Team:

Lead Creative Arts Counselorminimum age 20; salary range $210 - $250Supervise camp drama, music, art and dance programs. Assist with camp-wide programming and management. Supervisory and previous children’s program experience preferred; must be creative and organized. Current First Aid and CPR certification is preferred.

Lead Challenge Course Counselorminimum age 21; salary range: $210 - $250Supervise high/low challenge course, reppelling and tree-climbing. Keep records and coordinate weekly schedules and staff. Six months of supervision in these programs required. Assist with general unit programming and management.

Lead Aquatics Counselorminimum age 21; salary range: $210 - $250Supervise aquatic programs such as pool activities, tubing and canoeing. Lifeguard experience and a nationally recognized lifeguard certification required. Assist with camp-wide programming and management. Supervision experience needed. (Canoeing and tubing are only offered at Camp Sycamore Hills. Lifeguard training is offered during enrichment training.)

Lead Arts Counselorminimum age: 19; salary range: $210-$250Supervise all art programs, keep records, and coordinate weekly schedules and staff. Responsible for campers and counselors during art programs. Responsible for creating and implementing age-appropriate arts and crafts programs. Supervision in these programs required.

Resource Counselor (Camp Sycamore Hills)minimum age 21; salary range: $250 - $400 Work directly with lead and unit counselors to coordinate and supervise camper and staff needs. Serve as support and give direction including behavior management, homesickness and staff coaching. Supervisory, administrative skills and camp experience necessary. Valid driver’s license required. Current First Aid and CPR certification is required.

Business Manager (Camp Sycamore Hills)minimum age 21; salary range: $210- $400Manage camp checking account, petty cash, expenses and trading post. Supervise staff and volunteers. Submit and keep accurate records, purchase orders, invoices and budget. Experience in summer overnight camp and Girl Scouts preferred. Valid drivers license is required

Business Specialistminimum age 21; salary range: $210- $350Manage camp checking account and petty cash records. Manage trading post and purchases. Submit purchase orders and invoices and reconcile camp budget weekly. Experience in summer overnight camp and Girl Scouts preferred. Valid driver’s license required.

Program Managerminimum age 21; salary range: $210 - $400Coordinate and supervise program activities. Supervise and provide support to program staff. Supervisory, administrative skills and experience with a variety of programs necessary. Knowledge of Girl Scout programming and summer camp preferred. 2 years of summer camp employment preferred. Valid driver’s license required. Current First Aid and CPR certification is required.

Weekend Coordinator (Camp Sycamore Hills) Minimum Age 20; salary $216-$300Responsible for coordinating weekend activities including staff, programs, and campers. Communicate with parents to process camp registration and paperwork. Experience in supervision required. Current First Aid and CPR certification required.

Kitchen Team:

Kitchen Supervisorminimum age 21; salary range: $300 - $500Supervise kitchen staff and meal preparation for a large group (approximately 300 diners at Camp Sycamore Hills and 110 diners at Camp Holloway) each week. Plan menus, order, prepare and serve food. Assure that kitchen exceeds passing score on Health Department site visits. Food management experience and food service training preferred. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. On-site living not required.

Cookminimum age 18; salary range: $250-300Prepare meals for large groups (approximately 300 diners at Camp Sycamore Hills and 110 diners at Camp Holloway) each week. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Experience preferred. On-site living not required.

Kitchen Staff (Camp Sycamore Hills)minimum age 16; salary range: $190 - $225Assist with food preparation, dish washing and general kitchen duties. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. No experience required. On-site living not required.
