Presidents Message

Hello Badgers!

I hope this newsletter finds you all well and enjoying your old bikes! I have to complement the membership for the great showing we had at the Spring Meeting at Ken & Rhonda’s, what awesome hosts!

Also, thanks again for your participation at the meeting and for your valued feedback on all matters. It is good to see we have a lot of passionate peo-ple with a variety of backgrounds and perspectives. This type of diversity will continue to be the “glue” that strengthens our passion and friendships around old bikes.

Many Badgers were at the Brewtown Rumble on May 17th. Mother Nature cooperated for the most part and gave us the opportunity to pull-off a 1st time event that turned out to be a tremendous success! I can’t thank Kevin Frank and Robin Barry enough for providing the leadership necessary for an event of this scale and the volunteer Badgers along with our friends at Mil Vin Moto, job well done! If you didn’t have the opportunity to attend this year, make it a priority on your calendar for next year, it’s a “can’t miss” type of event! See the separate report out in this newsletter for the summary of the donation we were able to help raise for the BUILD charity.

Unfortunately, Mother Nature controlled the day for the 4th Annual Emma Davidson Country Can-ter on May 30th. It was cold and rained steadily throughout the day. A few Badgers showed up in cars and took advantage of touring some of the buildings for free. Let’s hope for a better day next year…

Are you ready for a party? Our annual Summer Picnic is coming up on June 20th at Tom Hinder-holtz’s place in Caledonia (notice in this newsletter). Tom has a great menu planned. Get ready to dust off your riding skills as there will be field games to participate in as well! We will have a brief update meeting, the key word is “brief”, I promise. We are going to share some important updates and we’ll get back to the regularly scheduled program ASAP. Meeting agenda is included in this newsletter.

If you can’t make the picnic, not to worry, the “Wild Ones Weekend” at the H-D Museum is only a few short weeks following on July 11th. The Badgers will again be sponsoring the Motorcycle Field Games so, this is yet another opportunity to hang with your fellow Badgers and show us your skills!Your Road Run Committee continues to make great progress in preparation for the Badger Derby National Road Run in August. As of June 1st we had 104 riders/bikes registered along with 30 pas-sengers. Christopher still had a half-dozen unopened registrations and we received about a dozen more “heads up” phone calls over the final weekend before the deadline from participants who will be registering. We have the four corners of the country covered plus a couple coming over from Sweden! My guesstimate is that we could see around 125 bikes for our 1st National Road Run, how about that!

I know how our summer schedules get filled up in a hurry but I hope all of you can find an opportu-nity to join your fellow members at one of the events; they are a lot of fun!

Ride Safe & Thanks for your support,

Dan

Hey Badgers!

I’m excited to have the opportunity to be Newsletter Editor! I’ve been an avid motorcyclist for nearly 30 years and a member of the AMCA for 5 years and in the Badger Heritage Chapter for four years. In those four years I have made many friends and partici-pated in numerous fun events.

I’d like to ask for everyone’s help for the newsletter by includ-ing special articles or feature stories from members telling of a

special bike or project they are working on or a cool flea market/barn find or an exciting riding adventure they may have taken over the years. I’m sure we all have some kind of interesting story to tell, so I call out to everyone in the club to please help me to put out a great newsletter with some fun stories!

Please contact me with your stories and I will publish them in our club newsletter. You can either write the story yourself or just give me the facts and I will put something to-gether and be sure to send photos along as well.

Well, that’s all I have to say this time, so I hope to see most of you at upcoming events!

Steve Peters

Badger Heritage Club in conjunction with MilVinMoto (Mil-waukee Vintage Motorcyclists) hosted the 2015 Brewtown Rumble on May 17. The Rumble was a vintage and antique motorcycle street festival with bike show, a pin-up show, music, food and exhibitors. We had 80 bikes entered in the show and hundreds of other bikes as attendees. Through the generous support of sponsors including the Harley-Da-vidson Museum, Steelhorse Law, Pabst Blue Ribbon, 91.7 WMSE, Fuel Cafe, Reina Interna-tional Auto, Porcaro Indian of Ra-cine, and Schlossman Motorcycles

of Milwaukee, as well as vendor fees and merchandise sales the Rumble raised $7,000 for the BUILD Moto Mentor Program.

President Dan Krause called the meeting to order:Presidents Welcome & Introductions • Dan welcomed the attending members and introduced the Chapter Officers for 2015. • Meeting minutes from Winter Dinner Meeting were reviewed and approved by the membership • Special thanks to 2014 Badger Derby Planning Committee & to the Winter Dinner Planning Committee for well-planned and successful events! • Dan & Jon thanked hosts Ken & Rhonda Rottmann for hosting the meeting. Rhonda recognized Rich & Jane Hinderholtz for preparing the food for the meeting.Treasurers Report • Current Treasury Balance: $20,444 o Badger Heritage = $3,384 o Brewtown Rumble = $5,080 o National Road Run - $11,980 • Review of Winter Dinner financials: There was a clerical error made in the per plate charge extended to the participants. The standard gratuity was overlooked and not included. The difference in the collections versus the invoice was $240. Al & Ellen Feyereisen covered the balance out of their own pockets. Upon learning of the error, your Board of Directors approved the repayment to Al & Ellen. Chapter members unanimously agreed with this ac-tion. • Member Don Dzurick presented a suggestion for a periodic review of the treasury. The Chapter Board will investigate a review process, possibly looking to the AMCA for guidance and support. General consensus is that Christopher does an excellent job of keeping the books. Christopher offered anyone the opportunity at any time to feel free to review the treasury log.Complaint Letter against Chapter President Dan Krause • Member Bill Giles issued a formal complaint against Dan via email to the Chapter Membership. Bill suggest-ed that the information he provided in the email was based upon rumors he had heard. When asked to reveal his sources so the accusations could be properly reviewed, Bill refused. • Bill did apologize to Christopher for the accusation of misappropriating $500 to Dan. (Refer to Review of Winter Dinner financials). • Since the accusations were not Bill’s own and could not be further substantiated, the matter has been closed.Secretary’s Report • Current roster lists 145 members, 119 members in good standing, 26 past due. • Newsletters now posted on Chapter Website: http://badgerheritage.com/newsletterRoad Run Update • Jon Oeflein presented the itinerary for the National Road Run. Encouraged all members to join in the fun! Reminder to sign up by June 1st.Brewtown Rumble Update • Kevin Frank & Robin Barry provided an update on the Rumble. All vendor spaces are full; the event is ready to go! (Financial balance listed in treasurers report) • Special thanks to Steve Peters for designing the logo.4th Annual Emma Davidson Country Canter • Jon and his mother Jean Davidson reminded the membership about the “Canter” which is affiliated with Old Falls Village Days in Menomonee Falls, WI. Old Falls Village invites you to step back in time and glimpse life as it was from the mid-1800s to the early 1900s. The centerpiece of Old Falls Village is the 1858 Miller-Davidson House, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This is Jean’s Grandmother/Jon’s Great-Grandmother’s “country get away”. Come and see! MC Riders get in free! • Jean responded to a request by the membership to learn more about her Yell and Tell foundation. Jean ex-plained that the Yell and Tell program is aimed at the young child who sees something dangerous, feels afraid and doesn’t know what to do. If you or your organization is interested in learning more, visit: http://www.yellandtell.com Summer Picnic Update • Tom Hinderholtz is hosting this year’s picnic at his place in Caledonia. Get ready for a great time! Flyer in this newsletter.Chapter Merchandise Update • Merchandise Manager Steve Peters showed off new “prototype” mechanics style jacket adorned with large Chapter Patch on the back and American flag on shoulder. Meeting Minutes from May 2, 2015 Chapter Meeting Continued • Merchandise orders will be consolidated to 2 times yearly, Spring & Fall. This will help to meet minimum volume requirements and keep the costs lower. Spring orders were delivered at the meeting. • Steve presented meeting poster to hosts Ken & Rhonda Rottmann. • Don Dzurick recommended a set of Chapter Posters be offered as a door prize for the Road Run. If budget allows, this will be accommodated.Old Business – Chapter Trademark Matter & Member Conduct Review • Dan updated the membership regarding the trademark submission presenting a timeline of events from ap-proval at the May 17th, 2014 Spring Meeting to the eventual return of the money by Ron Brefka on March 28th, 2015 The trademark was not submitted. A Chapter Trademark will be considered at future chapter meetings if the topic is brought up for discussion. • Ron responded with his reasoning for not submitting for the trademark. • A Member Conduct review with the membership present was conducted by Dan & Jon in reference to the behavior & actions of Chapter Secretary Ron Brefka and the chapter trademark. The working relationship between Ron, the Chapter Officers and the committees he was participating on also came under discussion. A member motion was made and seconded to take a vote on Ron’s continued participation in leadership roles for the chapter, Secretary & Newsletter Editor. Volunteers are welcomed.New Business • Chapter Job Descriptions were highlighted by Dan in an email sent to the membership on May 2nd. The officers created these to provide some formal structure to the roles. This will also help prospective members un-derstand what the expectations are for each role should they be interested in supporting the chapter in any of those capacities. Feedback is welcomed! Contact Dan or Jon. • Chapter Pop-up Canopy - Dan brought up the need for a canopy for chapter events. The canopy purchase was approved at the Spring 2014 meeting but no one was assigned the action to purchase. The canopy purchase was again motioned and approved for a cost of ~$300. Dan will take care of getting the canopy. • Dan asked for volunteers to help manage the Badger Chapter’s participation at the Knucklehead Reunion on July 11th. Josh Richardson & Chris Tribbey volunteered to co-manage this event. Christopher Bilda will continue to manage the field games with volunteer supportSpecial Tour • Meeting was adjourned followed by a very cool tour of the “work in progress” of the 1915 Firehouse that Ken & Rhonda are restoring, complete with its original slide pole! Can’t wait to see this in its finished form you guys!Next Meeting • Next meeting will be at the Summer Picnic at Tom Hinderholtz’s place in Caledonia, June 20th. We promise to keep it “short and sweet” and focus on “having fun & riding old bikes”!
