Dear Friends, What a busy and fun Spring we’ve had! Sue Spargo (Patty’s new Bestie) was with us for five days, then it was Shop Hop time for ten days, followed by a five-day visit from Jacqueline de Jonge (Laura’s new BFF). The Downton Abbey event was smashing - the presentation was both highly entertaining and very enlightening, the food was scrumptious (especially our new vice, clotted cream), and we loved seeing the projects made from the fabric and the costumes some of you wore. A little birdie just told us we’ll get to host another one next year. And then there was our Happy Houses Contest, which featured quilts made from our Happy Houses Block of the Month. A to Z for Ewe and Me Block of the Month

Janet Stone, noted for her alphabet quilts, designed this darling Block of the Month for The Quilt Show (Alex Anderson & Ricky Tims’ web TV program). It features tradi-tional blocks with names beginning with each letter of the alphabet and teaches a variety of techniques (such as piecing, fused raw edge and reverse appliqué, sashing, bias strips, and flange making). We’ve decided to offer the fabric for this 69” x 88” quilt as a complete kit ($250), rather than by the block. As a bonus, purchase of the kit entitles you

to a FREE one-year membership to The Quilt Show. On the first of every month, the new block and instructions to make it are revealed to members at www.thequiltshow.com (you can start at any time). Kits are available anytime.

Bertie’s Year Block of the Month Bertie the Bird is quite the calendar girl in this darling appliqué quilt, designed by Bonnie Sullivan of All Through The Night, and using Maywood’s “Woolies” flannel fabrics. The startup fee is $59.99, which includes the fabrics for the pieced sashings, binding, an embellishment but-ton kit, and a thread pack of Presencia pearl cotton. Then, you need to make a choice - flannel or wool appliqués? The

background fabric is flannel in both cases. All-flannel kits are $16.99 a month; wool & flannel kits are $23.99 a month. Kits are available on the 15th of the month, we started in January but back issues are available.

CLUBS & EVENTS Ditzy for Dots $10.99 per month

Strip of the Month

As you can probably tell, we are just nuts about dots. And about all forms of appliqué. And candy. But we digress. Our Block of the Month is actually based on strips. You provide your own background fabric and we

provide 14 precut 5-1/2” circles of fabric and a 5” freezer paper circle template each month. The strips finish at about 72”, which can be either the length or width of your top. 2-1/4 yards of background fab-ric is enough for 30” x 72”, so get 4-1/2 yards for a 60” x 72” quilt or 6-3/4 for a 90” x 72”. We’re making this a Charm Quilt - no two circle fabrics will be alike unless you choose to buy two kits each month. The program runs through August, enough for a 90” x 72” quilt (you can make yours bigger by purchasing more than one kit). Kits are ready on the 2nd Saturday of each month

Farmer Jo’s Club $25 per month

We’re pretty excited about our new, unique version of Jo’s Little Women Club. It’s essen-tially a Block-of-the-Month class, featuring the Farmer’s Wife Sampler Quilt book by Laurie Aaron Hird and Jo Morton fabric. You’ll pur-chase the book from us and then each month you’ll receive a kit to make a block from the book. We’ll hand-piece during our session,

have a snack, share information, and talk about the wonderful stories told in the book. The book is inspired by the Farmer’s Wife Magazine subscriber responses to this question posed by the magazine in 1922: “If you had a daughter of marriageable age, would you, in light of your own experience, have her marry a farmer?”

Myrna Walters & Diana Benedick, 1 session per month Saturdays, May 24, June 28, July 26, August 23, September 27,

Feathered Star or Jacobean Journey $99

EmbroidaBlock of the Month We are pleased to announce that The Quilt Crossing is an official representative of the Feathered Star and Jacobean Journey Embroid-aBlock of the Month programs from HoopSis-ters. The stunning blocks for these quilts are decoratively stitched, pieced, and quilted entirely in the hoop of your BERNINA (or other brand) embroidery machine. These two quilts are by far the most beautiful embroidery quilts that

we’ve seen entirely done in the hoop. The quilt-ing designs were masterfully digitized by master quilter, Sharon Schamber, and are simply beau-tiful!

You can choose to participate in both BOM’s or just one. The registration fee for either one is $99, or $179 for both. For more information on the Sit and Sew Class, see page 9.

Happy Baskets $9.99 per month

What a cute quilt this will be! On the third Saturday of each month, starting in January, you’ll get a kit of 16 bright and

pastel fabrics to make a darling 7-1/2” basket block with rick rack embellished handles (the background fabric

is always the same). The fabrics are die-cut, so they’ll be ready for you to start sewing immediately. We’re only

making a limited number - when they’re gone, they’re gone. The program will continue for at least 12 months (but we just saw a nice layout that used 36 baskets - hmm . . .).

Jo’s Garden Block of the Month $4.99 per packet

Based on your response, we know you love this Block of the Month program! It uses the English Paper Piecing technique (we’re happy to show you how easy it is - just ask at the counter) for a Grandmother’s Flower Garden quilt. Each month you’ll pick up a packet of 19 pre-cut 3/4” (finished) hexagon papers and fabrics - enough to make a flower. We’re using exclu-

sively Jo Morton fabrics. Every few months, we’ll also offer a packet of black fabric hexagons to use as the “path” for your garden. Blocks are ready the fourth Saturday of each month - coincidentally the same day as the Farmer Jo’s Club! No need to sign up for this one, but take care - when we sell out of a block, it’s gone. You can start at any time.

Kid’s Pillowcase Club FREE

Does your child or grandchild love to sew and help others? Please join us in making cheery pillowcases for the ConKerr Cancer Foundation. Kids 8-18 years old are welcome. Bring your own machine if you have one. We meet on the 3rd Friday of each month. Adults can help, too, by donating cute fabric (3/4 yard minimum) or gift cards.

Tracy Renspurger, Fridays, September 19, October 17, & November 21, 3-5 pm

Lorie’s Littles

Lorie Blackshear has been collecting pat-terns for little quilts for ever. Now you get to benefit from her obsession. On the first of each month, starting in July, she will unveil her newest little quilt model and kit, made from a variety of designers’ patterns. The first one, shown in the photo, is called “Back in Time . . .” from Primitive Gather-ings and measures just 16” x 18”. Kit prices will vary, depending on the pattern and techniques involved, but one thing

won’t vary - they are all little and super sweet!

Petite Wool Garden BOM $9.99 per month Cheryl Gunn, of Waltzing with Bears pattern company, has done it again with this sweet, petite wool garden wall hanging. The starting kit for this Block of the Month is $69.99 and includes twelve background fabrics, border and binding fabrics, wool for the scallops, the pat-tern and the first month’s block kit. For each of the next eleven months, your packet contains

hand-dyed wool for that month’s appliqués and some of the border dots. Kits are available the first Saturday of the month; we started in February but back issues are still available.

Saturday/Sunday Sampler Our new Saturday/Sunday Sampler starts this July and is based on the “Farmhouse Quilt” in Edyta Sitar’s book “Friendship Strips & Scraps“. The twelve-month program features 10” house blocks and we’ll have optional appliqué and finishing kits available for you. The start-up fee is $30; this includes the first month’s block and 2-1/2 yards of your choice of Dune or Dusty Blue Hoffman batik, which is used as the background. You are also re-quired to buy Edyta’s book from us (if you

have a copy you purchased elsewhere, you can always give one of them to a dear friend).

In case you haven’t participated before, Saturday Samplers are all about the rules. And the fun. And the rules somehow add to the fun. After the first month, if you personally (no proxies) 1) show up on time with 2) your finished block and 3) watch our demonstration, the next month’s kit is free. If you don’t meet all three requirements, never fear, the kit for that month is only $5. You can come to either the Saturday or Sunday session, BUT YOU MUST PREREGISTER.

Staff, 1 session per month Saturday, July 19, 9 am or Sunday, July 20, 1 pm

Saturday, August 16, 9 am or Sunday, August 17, 1 pm Saturday, September 20, 9 am or Sunday, September 21, 1 pm

Cute Quilts for Kids By Kristin Roylance

This book had me with the cute VW-like Bug on the cover. Cute Quilts for Kids is as adver-tised - the nine quilt patterns featuring cars, butterflies, ladybugs, flowers, rodeos and dino-saurs, are fresh, original and just plain fun.

Kristin provides an excellent sewing tutorial. Her step-by-step colorful instructions are bright, cheery and very easy to follow. Fun surprises, such as three dimensional design elements, are found in many of the quilts.

A very cute quilt is Tromp, Chomp, Stomp! Prairie points serve as spines on a couple dinosaurs. I can see a young child happily snug-gling with it for years. Kristin freely uses rick rack, dimensional flowers and even tulle in one design.

Are We There Yet is my favorite. The easy to sew zigzag pattern back-ground, rick rack and the aforementioned VW-like bugs combine for a unique and special quilt. Anchors Aweigh combines sailboats with an excellent color design. Ladybug Landing features ladybugs and dimen-sional flowers.

Cute Quilts for Kids by Kristin Roylance will be my go-to book for chil-dren’s quilts. I know it will be yours, too!

Wild Blooms & Colorful Creatures By Wendy Williams

Wild Blooms & Colorful Creatures is a de-lightful and multi-faceted quilt book. The combinations of cotton quilting fabrics with linen and wool appliqué results in out-standing projects.

Wendy’s whimsy is apparent throughout this book. Her excellent instructions guarantee success but also leave room for personal expression in all the designs. You are guar-anteed great success by following her easy-to-understand instructions for proper wool appliqué preparation.

The quilt, Overgrown, has an intriguing and clever idea for flower row placement that offers the opportunity to make this quilt a hundred times with each one an original.

My favorite hands down is the quilt, Two’s Company. This delightful animal quilt will fascinate a special little (or big) person in your life.

A wonderful starter project is the Flowering Table Runner which would look perfect on a table year round. There are several really cute pil-lows in this book. I like them all, but especially the Wee Farm Village and Wee Village Town pillows. These would make great take along projects for a trip.

The quilts, runners, pillows and bags are intoxicating. I want to stitch

each one and I imagine you will, also.

Already taken a certification class somewhere else? Feeling a little rusty? We can show you how to use the controls and help you brush up during your regular rental time (but heck, if you buy a Studio Pass, the class is free and it’s always fun, so why not take it anyway!).

Staff, one session, $75* plus Supply Fee of $19.95, all sessions are 9 am-1 pm Wednesday, June 11 Saturday, June 21 Wednesday, July 2 Saturday, July 12 Wednesday, July 23 Saturday, August 2 Wednesday, August 6 Saturday, August 16 Wednesday, August 27 Saturday, September 6 Wednesday, September 10 Saturday, September 20 Wednesday, September 24

If you want to rent a machine during one of the class times listed below, give us a call - we are happy to teach small classes so sometimes have a machine or two available for rent at the same time. Watch for our Fall Newsletter with additional types of classes such as Ruler Work, Pantographs, and more!

LONGARM QUILTING STUDIO PASS WOW! Have we got a deal for you! Our Longarm Quilting Studio Pass is just $150. Drop your project off in advance and we have it pinned in the frame so you can start quilting as soon as you arrive. So, that’s a value of up to $325, all for $150! The va lue of having your quilt fin-ished - PRICELESS! *Class fee waived with the purchase of a Studio Pass (supply fee is not).

P.S. We are an Authorized APQS Dealer, too, just in case you want one for your home!

Would you like to get news from The Quilt Crossing in a flash? Hot off the press, so to speak? Do you want to be the first in your quilt group to know when a new line of fabric arrives? When a new book finally hits the streets instead of just the magazine ad? What that odd little notion is for? If a spot is still available in a class? Then sign up for “The Hot Flash”. We publish once or twice a month. To sign up, simply go to our website, www.quiltcrossing.com, click on “Newsletter”, then on option #2, and fill out the form; or give us your email address the next time you are in the store, or just text QUILTING to 22828. Easy peasy. We’ll include reminders for our fun events and some unadvertised specials. Don’t miss it!

We’re a drop-off site for pillowcases for this wonderful organization. ConKerr Cancer’s mission is to brighten the lives of sick children in hospitals by giving

the kids their very own handmade pillowcase. Your donations go to area hospitals - St Luke’s Pediatric Unit has been officially declared a “No White Pillowcase Zone”, thanks to you—you’ve donated so many, we’ve totally lost track.

Easy Cat Beds: Looking for an easy way to give to your com-

munity? Make some cute beds for the cat kennels at the Idaho Humane Society. All you have to do is cut two 15” squares of colorful* fabric and seam them together on three sides, using a 1/2” seam allowance. Turn right side out and use it to line a small trash can

in your sewing room. When you have pet-safe scraps, like fabric or batting, drop them in the bag. When it’s full, turn under the last seam and stitch it up. Of course, you can always just insert a pillow form, if you’d rather! Drop it off at The Quilt Crossing, and we’ll see it gets to the shelter. *Cats don’t see color well but potential adopters do, so let’s make them as appealing as possible!

Pet Food Pantry: Don’t forget, we are a drop-off site for the

Pet Food Pantry, an on-going program developed by the Idaho Humane Society, the Idaho Food Bank, and Meals On Wheels. Why not pick up a little extra to donate when you are getting food for your own dog or cat?

FABRIC BANK!!!

Are you interested in clearing out some of that fabric you know you’ll never use? Bring it in and deposit it in our donation box. Please make sure all deposits are 100% cotton fabric and of

usable size. On the other side of the coin, are you part of a group that makes quilts for charitable purposes and are you looking for fabric “on account of” never having enough? Then come on down and make a withdrawal! Those making withdrawals are on the honor system. We’ll all reap dividends!

Pictured are the Happy Bee Quilters, from Fruitland, with quilts made from “Bank” fabric for “Operation Quilts”, which provides quilts to Na-tional Guard troops when they depart on tour.
