What you need to know before registering...

A signed waiver is required before participants are allowed in the water.

All participants are required to wear proper swim attire. Athletic wear is strictly prohibited.

A parent packet is available upon registration. The packet contains class guidelines and procedures and can be found at garlandparks.com.

Register by age. Swimmers progress through a 10 station instruction program at their own pace.

Class size is limited. Register early for a better chance at your preferred time.

An additional $4 fee will be assessed for registration completed after noon on the Friday before the session begins. Availability is not guaranteed.

Registration may be completed over the phone, in person at any Garland recreation center, or online at garlandparks.com. Pools are unable to accept any registrations.

A parent is required to attend the first day of class for important class details.

Only participants and staff are allowed inside pool gates.

Classes meet Monday through Friday the first week of the session and Monday through Thursday the second week. If there is a class cancellation by the Aquatics staff, a make-up time will be designated by the pool supervisor.

When registering online, print a receipt and bring it to the first class.

8 Aquatics - Summer 2014

Starfish (Parent-Tot)Age: 9Mos - 3Yrs Make waves with your little superstar! A familiar face, touch, and praise play a vital role in introducing babies to water adjustment, learning breath control, and enhancement of early developmental skills. Safety skills are introduced. A great start for future swimmers! One parent per child required. Each class consists of 20 minutes in the water and 5 minutes dressing time before and after water time.

Clownfish (Preschool)Age: 3 - 4Yrs Play is the way little ones learn! This instruction lays the groundwork for introductory swim skills through songs, games, and toys that teach water adjustment, safety skills, and beginning movement. Basic lessons also help preschoolers develop comfort in the water.

Stingrays Age: 5 - 8Yrs Cool rays of summer! Attentive instruction guides students through fundamental swim elements, including controlled rhythmic breathing, floating, and essential safety skills, while progressing at each student’s own pace. Encourage confidence in the water, and ensure a solid foundation for later stroke development.

Sharks Age: 9 - 15Yrs Jaws will drop! Instruction covers beginning through advanced skills. Beginners develop rhythmic breathing, learn safety skills, and receive instruction on basic strokes. Students advance through strokes such as freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and sidestroke while increasing endurance. You’ll be prepared to swim for your lifetime!

Adult SwimAge: 16Yrs and up It’s never too late to learn! Instruction focuses on your personal swimming goals. Choose fundamental techniques such as breath control, floating, and treading, or improve your favorite stroke. Work at your own pace, improve swim skills, and gain water confidence. Enjoy swimming at any age!

Adapted AquaticsAge: 6 - 15Yrs Splash into success! Designed for kids with disabilities. Learn water safety and swimming techniques in a safe, self paced environment. One on one instruction provides each individual with the attention needed to gain valuable skills in the water while improving strength and coordination.

STARS Day Camp Standing Tall and Reaching Success! STARS provides summer camp activities to children with limited financial resources. Enjoy fun games and physical activities, exciting arts and crafts, and team building experiences. Campers build self esteem and develop social skills while improving health. when entering a City of Garland recreation center. A Participant ID Card form must be filled out for each person along with a valid picture ID and proof of residency. Legal guardians must fill out and sign forms for participants under the age of 18.

Firewheel Golf ParkFirewheel Golf Park

The Old Course Features gently rolling terrain and slow moving streams winding throughout the

course. Strategically placed bunkers and heavily wooded areas make this par 71 a

challenge for all golfers.

Enjoy 63 holes of golf on over 600 acres of beautiful wooded terrain scattered with streams and ponds. Firewheel is the biggest golf facility in Texas, and one of the

largest complexes in the country.

The Lakes Course Features 18 challenging holes and 10 lakes, along with 52 bunkers sprinkled generously

over the rolling hills.

The Bridges Course A 27 hole public course, featuring bentgrass

greens, 419 Bermuda tees, fairways and roughs, and a 35 station practice range.

Located on the south end is the Branding Iron, a full service restaurant with a variety of

foods from sandwiches to steaks.

The City of Garland Recreation Financial Assistance Program helps families and/or individuals with limited financial resources participate in City of Garland recreation programs and activities.
