WEEK 1 RECAPS

3

Due to mother nature, our 1st week of games got rained out. So no recaps for this week. Even though our games got rained out, a good amount still made it to our Sponsor Bar, Uno Chicago Grill; so I wanna thank those who made it. ***Captains, after each game, please write a little recap of the game as well as the score, and anything else you want to add, such as MVP of the game or biggest goof…whatever you want. I will be harassing you until I get this, so beware.***

I formed this team so that my boyfriend could spend more time with his buddies….can I help it that all his buddies are on a men’s baseball team here in Hampton Roads? NO! James Salgado is calling our team “Team Franchise,” I hope he’s right because I like to win.! But if my big hitters play like they did during our scrimmage games, then I’m just going to bring a keg to the fields and drink till I don’t even notice we’re losing. Tighten up BOYS!

I formed this team because basically, I had no choice. It was hard to say no when the Reyes’ and Salgado kept pestering me to start a team. So that, in turn, made me start pestering everyone I knew to jump on board. What sealed the deal was one night after our kickball game, me and Sexi Mexi were driving to the sponsor bar trying to come up with funny Wiffle ball team name. We decided that right then if we came up with a name, we would play...and thus, Wiffle Dat Azz was born. We are definitely looking forward to a fun season. One thing is for sure, we will most definitely be the loudest team out on the fields!

Wiffler’s Mom

5

Wiffler's Mom is a team of fun and energetic individuals fairly new to the wiffle ball realm, but don't let that fool you, as we've been mastering the angles of hitting the ball farther and faster! The Bedazzling Heather will be "lighting" up the way leading the team around the bases. Sean and Eric have been hard at work using their creative skills with our name and logo, and we are excited to be adding our own piece to our uniform. Off the field you can see many of us on another sporting field, kickball, softball, bowling, golf, skiing, you name it we've done it. We've also been known to frequent popular local events like Floatopia, soaking up the rays and getting in some beach wiffle. So while we'd love to be social with you and share a few frothy beverages maybe over some flip cup at our wonderful sponsor bar afterward, we'll be getting our night started by taking care of business and bringing our mad skills to the field. Long story short......other teams, you better be bringing your "A" game because you've got company.

-Nicky Peterson

Most of the Loose Cannons have been avid wifflers for years. It all started in Marcus Blagen’s backyard about four years ago. In those four years, our Sunday wiffleball game between a tight group of friends has turned into seasonal tournaments and most recently a league in Chesapeake, fueled by Sinclair Radio Group (96X/US106/BobFM/WNIS/Funny850) Playing for charity has always been a big motivating factor, even at the very first tournament at “Blagen Field”, where we collected can goods and coats for the needy. The Cannons are very excited for the upcoming Backyard Sports Club league!! Nearly 130 wiffleballers…that’s incredible!! We really appreciate all the hard work that has gone into this league!! We will see you guys on the field!! Don’t forget to bring your A game! BOOM!

The Pilot team joined together to have some fun this summer and meet new people! Most of the players have never played Wiffle Ball before or it has been 20 years and we were excited to try something new! We have a mixture of Pilot employees and friends from kickball so it's a great mixture to meet new people and build closer relationships with current coworkers!

The team name was inspired by a kickball team of the past. It has become a storied franchise name which is used during local tournaments. The original teammates of Holey Balls decided to split during league play and be separate captains on various teams. Being a Wiffle Ball Ambassador, if you will, I decided to spread the love of Wiffle Ball to others. We will bring the fun, the fight, and if you aren’t paying attention, the Holey Balls in your MOUTH!’

So we started out as “Alcoballics” and now we are Roscoe's Chicken N' Wiffles, compliments of Eddie Mac who is also the head cheer author/leader on the team. Knowing the majority of the players on the team, I'd have to guess that we'll be pretty competitive both on the field and the dance floor this season. We are looking forward to our first double header this evening..."Can I get some Roscoe's, what?" "You got your Roscoe's, got your Roscoe's!“

Captain – Colie Schaeffer

Sloppy Seconds came together for the love of the game. Friends from kickball and friends of friends, and some people that I work with at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. We are a new team and I still haven't met everyone on the team yet, but i'm sure i'll get to know them a lot better by seasons end. I'm looking to have fun and make friends out there and maybe win a couple games on the way.

The Dos and DONTs

• DO NOT bring alcoholic beverages to the field….or at least be discreet about it! • DO clean up after yourselves! Unfortunately, maid service was cut out of Backyard

Sports Club’s budget due to the economy. • DO be friendly to the Refs: Please do not yell at them…just remember, you’re the one

that will look like a jerk if you yell at them. • DO NOT be “that guy.” We do not own Uno Chicago Grill or the premises around it; so

when you do something stupid, you’re not excluded from any laws just because you are wearing a Backyard Sports Club t-shirt.

• DO NOT leave a fellow wiffleballer behind; we take care of our own. Don’t let your

teammate drink like a champ and drive home. Find the closest decent looking guy/gal, introduce them, and have them go home together.

• DO NOT be bitter. It’s super important that if you end up having a “sleep over” with a

fellow wiffleballer, be cool with them for weeks to follow. We’re a small community, you’re gonna end up seeing them all season! When they drop you off at your car, hug it out, smile…and say “hi” the following week.

• DO NOT try to guess that persons name! • DO go to our sponsor Bar, Uno Chicago Grill. It’s what the cool kids are doing. • DO NOT fight! This is a fun league, HAVE FUN! If you fight, fun’s over for you, you’ll be

kicked out. • DO always wear your Backyard Sports Club shirt. I know laundry once a week may be

too much, so it’s cool if you go a couple weeks without washing….unless you’ve got bad B.O. like Robbie Wright!

**DISCLAIMER** Nothing in the Backyard Sports Club Newsletter is to be taken seriously, except for the schedules and scores! Please send scores, recaps, pictures, questions, funny quotes, and/or any information that you would like to be added into the week’s newsletter to [email protected] 12
