Floratech Cleanroom Systems Wine Guardian OEM and Custom Products Summer 2006 20th Anniversary Edition Air Innovations begins year-long celebration! A gala reception for company friends, customers and suppliers, and a fun-filled picnic for employees and their families on Monday, July 31 kicks off a year of planned events to honor Air Innovations’ 20th year of operation. The company was founded on July 31, 1986, as Floratech Industries by Jim Kelly, John Simko Sr. and A. James Edgar. (Chairman) Larry and (President) Mike Wetzel gained a controlling interest in the company in 1996, and total ownership in 1997. The name change to Air Innovations came about in July 2001. The original company evolved over the past two decades by design and acquisition to become a leader in niche market environmental control. Air Innovations delivers extensive temperature, pressure, humidification and air cleaning exper- tise to all its divisions. These include: Floratech, floral dis- play merchandising systems; Cleanroom Systems, cleanroom and mini-environment air conditioning units; Wine Guard- ian, self-contained air conditioning products for wine cellars; IsolationAir, portable isolation units designed for incremental or surge capacity applications; and, the Custom/OEM line. During the anniversary year, Air Innovations anticipates rolling out its 10,000th unit since the founding of the compa- ny. In addition, there will be special employee recognitions, including a new program of service awards honoring 5-year, 10-year, 15-year and 20-year tenures. Company’s first employee also celebrates 20th anniversary Floratech’s first official employee at the company’s inception in 1986 continues to work as an Air Innovations engineer. “Founder Jim Kelly and I started Floratech on his dining room table and in my basement,” recalls Gary Cunningham. He reminisces about the challenge and the sometimes day- to-day existence of the young company. Working late into the night to meet deadlines, struggling to develop new custom- ers, and designing new products formed a lasting friendship between the two men and their families. “It was thrilling and often scary,” comments Cunningham, “but I always kept the faith and here we are today.” He par- ticularly remembers one afternoon when deadlines had been met so Kelly decided to close the plant down and take all the employees for a round of golf. “It was like a small family,” he said, “we all had to do what needed to be done.” Gary Cunningham, AI’s first employee
