Tel Aviv, Israel

SUNDAY 1 MARCHWe gather at Sydney International Airport and fl y out to Bangkok then board our El Al Fight to the Holy Land.

MONDAY 2 MARCHIt is an early morning touch down at Ben Gurion airport and we are met by our welcoming Guide. Our Guide has led the Tour four times and knows our needs and just the places to take us. We are transferred to our hotel in Tel Aviv which overlooks the Mediterranean Sea, enjoy breakfast and meet up with our fellow travellers from Hong Kong before a much needed sleep. In the afternoon we travel to the port city of Joppa and visit the Jonah memorial and St Peter’s church, the reminder of Peter’s vision of the sheet with clean and unclean animals. Joppa is also the town of Simon the Tanner. We return for our fi rst meal together. Overnight Tel Aviv. (D)

TUESDAY 3 MARCH We rise to a hearty breakfast and before we set out gather for morning prayer. The bus takes us north and our fi rst stop is the former great port city of Caesarea. This city is mentioned in the Acts of the Apostles, and we walk into the amphitheatre and through to Herod’s palace. Here Paul gave the fi nal summary of his call before he set out for Rome.Back on the bus we climb the Carmel ranges to the site of Elijah and the Prophets of Baal. From this panoramic vista we can see the hill country of Galilee. On our way to Nazareth we call at the Wedding church in Cana and stay the night at St Margaret’s Hostel in the city of Mary and Joseph. Overnight Nazareth. (B-D)

WEDNESDAY 4 MARCH We take the short journey to the large Church of the Annunciation and we are reminded of the obedience of Mary. There is a delightful working village and as we walk through the grounds we see examples of fi rst century life, and then enjoy a lunch which is presented in fi rst century style. Now it is time to travel to the Sea of Galilee and on the way we stop at the Arbel look out for an overview of the places where Jesus lived and visit the Galilee Experience in Tiberias. Overnight Galilee. (B-D)

THURSDAY 5 MARCHOur accommodation is on the eastern shore of the Sea of Galilee and after breakfast we gather on the shore for morning prayer. Today we will visit two ‘mountains’ which have signifi cance in Jesus’ ministry. Mt Tabor, the Mount of Transfi guration and overlooking the Sea of Galilee, the Mt of Beatitudes, where Jesus sat down and taught. The terrain has not changed since the time of Jesus and so we walk down this hill to the sea. By this time we are hungry and it is time to call into the local restaurant for some St Peter’s fi sh from the Sea of Galilee. As the

sun sets we gather at Mensa on the shore for a Eucharist and hear the reading of Peter’s call. Overnight Galilee. (B-L-D)

FRIDAY 6 MARCH After breakfast and morning prayer we travel to the wharf and board the Galilee boat to go across the 12 km to the other side. The boat stops in the middle of the sea and we read some of the incidents which happen in Jesus’ life on this vast expanse of fresh water . Now it is time to go north, and we go through Kursi, once a monastic centre, and climb to the Golan Heights. We will visit Banias, where Peter had the insight that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of the living God and enjoy our lunch in the restful setting of the National Park . Then on to Mt Benton at the top of the Golan, Heights and from a former military post we look over to Syria and the route which Paul would have taken on his way to Damascus. Overnight Galilee. (B-D)

SATURDAY 7 MARCHToday we leave the Galilee shores and travel south. At the beginning of the Jordan we stop of a renewal of our Baptismal promises, and continue on through the rift valley to the Dead Sea and call at David’s spring, En Gedi, in the desert ravines. Our big visit is to Masada, the great Jewish stronghold. We ascend to this by cable car and walk down the siege ramp on the other side. Here we appreciate the vast Negev desert. Overnight Beersheva. (B-D)

SUNDAY 8 MARCH After breakfast we visit the Park of the Australian Soldier and the British Cemetery where over a thousand Australian, New Zealand and British soldiers’ graves are well tended. We will have a time or remembrance here. Then on to Chauvel’s Hill from where we can view the plain where the 800 Australian Light horsemen rode into history with their famous charge, 98 years ago. We visit the Biblical site of Abraham’s well.We drive down again into the rift valley and Dead Sea. It is time to relax and we stop at a resort to swim in the briny waters. Then it is time to go up to Jerusalem. We stop at Qumran, the site of the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls, and then half way up the highway at Wadi Kelt where we see the ancient pilgrimage road which winds from Jericho to Jerusalem. As the sun sets and Jerusalem with its limestone buildings refl ects the golden hue we fi nd ourselves looking over the Holy City and we can experience the words from Psalm 122: ‘And now our feet are standing within your gates O Jerusalem.’ Our accommodation is near St Georges Cathedral. Overnight Jerusalem. (B-D)

MONDAY 9 MARCH We enjoy our fi rst breakfast in Jerusalem. Now it is time to explore the Old City, starting at the City of David to walk

Hezekiah’s tunnel (Optional). Then we enter the city through the Jaff a gate, walk down narrow David Street and turn right into the Jewish quarter. We enjoy lunch before visiting the Jerusalem museum and the Holy Western Wall. Then we set off , back to St George’s via the wall ramparts and Damascus gate. Overnight Jerusalem. (B-D)

TUESDAY 10 MARCH We begin at the lookout on the Mt of Olives. Here we read and pray with the Old City spread before us. Then it is a walk down to the Garden of Gethsemane – as Jesus did – and a walk up to the Lions Gate, to enter into the Moslem quarter of the city. Just inside the gate is the church of St Anne, and the porticoes where the lame man had lain for 38 years. We follow the Way of the Cross up to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the site of Jesus’ death and resurrection. We enjoy lunch in the old city at the Muristan and for those with stamina climb the tower of the Lutheran church for a high view of the old city. As the day draws to a close we make our way to the Garden Tomb for a Resurrection Eucharist. Overnight Jerusalem. (B-D)

WEDNESDAY 11 MARCHToday we set out for Bethlehem, 10km away. On the way we stop at the Hadassah Hospital to see the 12 Chagall windows in the Hospital synagogue. Then on to the Church of the Nativity, the oldest church building in Christian history and Jerome’s cave; on our return we stop for lunch at our guide’s kibbutz – Ramat Rachel. There is still time to visit the Israel Museum or Model of Jerusalem and the Shrine of the Book, where the Isaiah scroll from Qumran is in display. We farewell our Hong Kong friends. Overnight Jerusalem. (B-D)

THURSDAY 12 MARCH This is a free day for you to revisit the places which you found fascinating or others yet unseen such as the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial. We gather late in the afternoon to make our way to the airport stopping enroute to enjoy our end of tour celebration dinner. (B-D)

FRIDAY 13 MARCH Arrival Bangkok with connections home.

SATURDAY 14 MARCH It is early that we touch down at Mascot, and return to our homes with a new knowledge of the land of Jesus and new friends made in Christ. Each member of the group receives a specially prepared booklet with readings, maps, notes, hymns and prayers for each day and place. This is Paul’s 8th journey to Israel.
