The World Federation of International Music Competitions held its 61st General Assembly in Montreal, Canada, from May 11 to 14, 2017

THURSDAY MAY 11
The WFIMC welcomed new delegates at a special reception with Board members and the Secretariat at the Hyatt Regency.
All delegates were then invited to Dunham along with official guests of the Concours musical international de Montréal, to attend the
world-famous Lobster Dinner hosted by Mr André Bourbeau at his beautiful country property.

36 member competitions were represented in Montreal by one or two delegates and 24 competitions present carried a proxy from
another member competition unable to attend this annual meeting of the Federation.
Mr André Bourbeau, President of the Concours musical International de Montréal, welcomed the members of the WFIMC to Montreal
and Mr Didier Schnorhk, President of the WFIMC, opened the meeting with gratitude to the hosts.
Québécois film director François Girard gave the members present a keynote address. He posed
a question drawn from his collaborations with eminent artists such as Joshua Bell and Yo-Yo Ma: “How do you perform at a high
level and be an artist that interacts with other art forms and the world?”
The President and Secretary General reported on the work of the WFIMC in the past year and reported on the recent Strategic Planning Review.

The afternoon was dedicated to Round Tables by Region: Europe, Australasia, Americas and to a seminar entitled “Teachers on
the Jury? – Managing Conflict of Interest”.

In the evening, delegates attended a Gala Concert to celebrate the 15th Anniversary of the Concours musical International de Montréal held at the Maison Symphonique and featuring the most recent winner, the pianist Zoltan Fejévari, and past laureates Serhiy Salov, Benjamin Beilman and Measha Brueggergosman with the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal.

Mr Didier Bensa, President of Medici.tv, outlined progress on the online, exclusive WFIMC promotional platform
to highlight each Member Competition. Practical advice about recording for broadcast was provided to the
Assembly. Mr Bensa presented the first draft of the sponsorship prospectus to secure funds to deliver this project
for the WFIMC.
12 Glasgow was approved as the venue for the 62nd General Assembly to take place from 5 to 8 April 2018.
13 The 63rd General Assembly will be held in Norrköping, Sweden in 2019.

The WFIMC presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to Mr Richard Rodzinski in recognition for his work as General Director
of the International Tchaikovsky Competition (Moscow) and as Executive Director of the Van Cliburn Foundation which he helmed
for 23 years. Mr. Rodzinski is a former WFIMC office holder.
The day finished with Round Tables by Discipline: Keyboard,
Strings, Voice, Multi Discipline (including Chamber Music,
Winds, Composition, Percussion, Conducting).
Following the conclusion of the Agenda, delegates were invited
on a guided and private tour of the exhibition “Chagall: couleur
et musique” at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.

SUNDAY MAY 14
Sunday started with a walk of the Mont-Royal followed by a brunch in the old town of Montreal.

Delegates were then invited to attend “Volta”, the latest production of Cirque de Soleil under the Big Top in the Old Port of Montreal.
The evening ended with a spectacular view of Montreal Au Sommet Place Ville Marie where delegates attended a Farewell
Cocktail Reception offered by the Canadian International Organ Competition.
