German road tolls result in 130 euros increase in costs of Macedonian truck drivers Media

Germany’s decision to introduce road tolls on motorways will lead to higher costs for Macedonia truck and bus drivers - an increase of about 130 euros annually. In addition, the increase in Germany’s minimum hourly pay from 8.50 euros to 8.84 euros, starting

January 2017, alongside the new procedure for electronic registration, will also result in higher costs. This increase applies to both foreign and German transport providers that perform their services on the territory of Germany. Practically, it means that Macedonian truck drivers will have to be paid in accordance with Germany’s minimal hourly rate when on German territory.

Agriculture sector: restructuring towards a modern, competitive and precise agriculture Media

Agriculture, including the subsectors for hunting, forestry and fishing, is the third largest sector, following the service sector and industries. Agriculture’s share in total GDP has remained relatively stable at around 10 % to 12 %; combined with the food

processing industry, the share rises to 16 % to 18 %. This information was pointed out at a press conference hosted by the Economic Chamber of Macedonia on 28 November 2016. It was pointed out that there was a lot of untapped potential in agriculture that could help this sector strengthen its share in GDP. The experts who addressed the press conference said despite the traditional relevance of this sector, changes were still slow, especially regarding the use of favorable weather (220 sunshine days per year).

In the past 12 months, the price of natural gas in Macedonia used by industrial facilities dropped by 33 %. This means that Macedonia, just as Serbia, has seen the steepest decline in gas prices in Europe. For many years, Macedonia was one of the

countries with the highest gas prices in Europe, mostly interpreted as a consequence of low consumption. However, in the first six months of this year, factories and other industrial consumers paid a price of 0.025 euros per KWh of natural gas, which is the lowest price in Europe.
