in horror trailers they use:
• Masks and weapons
• Mise en scene such as make up, black clothing and white dresses which connote more terror in the scene.
• Fast pace non diegetic music to make the scene tenser for the audience.
• Lots of cross cuts to unveil the action quickly and encourage the viewer to watch it as they want to see what happens at the end.
• The use of children or children's props to make the scene a lot more creepier.
• Girls are the helpless characters who rely on the male to save them
• The victims normally have a weapon but are still defenceless.
• The use of make up makes the villain look more scarier
HORROR POSTERS
• Text which is integrated with the trailer
• Images related to the trailer
• A tagline to create a cliff-hanger which encourages the viewer to go and watch it
• The release date is used at the bottom in smaller text
• The film name is stated in bold to attract a wide audience to the poster
• They use a specific colour on the poster which helps the text stand out and connote the horror e.g. red connotes evil and blood which is related to horror.
• They sometimes have credits on the poster which attracts the audience to it because there favourite actor might be in the film.
HORROR MAGAZINE • They have a bold image on the front which attracts the audience
• A bold masthead which is eye catching for the reader
• They have a series of coverlines which are stretched across the top and the bottom of the page
• They have bold cover stories which are related to the image which makes the reader want to read on.
• They use mise-en scene in the image to make the character on the front look as scary as possible.
• They have colours in the background to make the image look more scarier. E.g. black for isolation and frost for mystery.
• They use a close up or a long shot to show what the character is wearing to make the image look even more scarier for the reader.
