!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Summary(Statement(for(GLATA(Office:((It!is!with!great!humility!that!I!place!my!name!in!for!contention!for!GLATA!President8elect.!I!do!this!as!I!wish!to!continue!my!service!to!you!and!our!profession!in!a!meaningful!manner.!!Over!the!past!30!years!of!Certified!membership,!I!have!practiced!in!four!of!the!six!GLATA!member!states!(IN,!IL,!MI,!OH).!Not!only!have!I!practiced!in!a!majority!of!the!states,!but!my!experience!has!also!been!in!nearly!every!setting!to!include!secondary!schools,!collegiate/university,!clinical,!clinical8outreach,!assisting!in!physician!practices,!and!industrial/occupational!health.!My!development!in!those!positions!also!included!management!and!academic!roles.!!Along!the!way,!I!was!privileged!to!serve!on!committees!and!in!leadership!roles!in!three!of!the!four!states!(IN,!IL,!OH).!Each!of!these!developed!my!knowledge!of!our!profession!and!the!issues!before!us.!It!has!taken!many!hours!and!lots!of!learning!to!become!confident!enough!to!also!advance!to!leadership!of!these!groups!and!to!move!to!positions!at!the!district!and!national!levels.!My!ability!to!work!with!others!and!successfully!lead!projects!has!netted!me!elected!and!appointed!positions.!!My!contributions!to!the!success!of!each!of!these!opportunities!has!brought!recognition!along!the!way.!These!includes!national!awards!such!as!the!NATA!Most!Distinguished!Athletic!Trainer!Award,!NATA!Excellence!in!Leadership!Award!(received!just!this!summer),!and!the!GLATA!Dedicated!Service!Award!Still!to!be!presented!in!November,!I!will!be!inducted!with!the!2017!Hall!of!Fame!Class!of!the!Illinois!Athletic!Trainers!Association.!!!As!you!can!see,!my!credentials!establish!a!foundation!for!consideration.!However,!that!is!recognition!for!what!I!HAVE!accomplished.!You!will!be!electing!me!for!what!I!CAN!and!PLAN!to!do.!In!preparing!for!this!run,!I!consulted!some!trusted!friends!and!colleagues.!Some!of!the!comments!indicated!that!we!have!a!strongly!established!infra8structure!and!a!historical!legacy!of!leadership.!Our!committees!and!volunteers!are!experienced!and!passionate8which!makes!leading!easy!

That!being!said,!we!still!have!room!for!growth.!When!our!secondary!schools!and!collegiate!settings,!our!base!practice!setting,!still!lack!full!coverage8we!still!have!work!to!do.!Until!we!no!longer!face!challenges!to!our!ability!to!practice!to!the!full!extent!of!our!education!and!training!in!all!states8we!still!have!work!to!do.!As!long!as!our!clinical!judgement!and!expertise!is!questioned!on!the!sidelines,!in!clinics,!and!on!the!plant!floors,!in!each!of!our!states8we!still!have!work!to!do.!!Each!of!our!GLATA!members!states!has!demonstrated!on8going!success!at!various!levels!in!each!of!these!areas.!It!is!my!intent!to!continue!that!success.!!!Advancing!the!profession!is!a!complex!and!multi8faceted!endeavor.!To!advance!the!profession!means!many!things!to!many!people.!It!means!more!jobs!to!some,!modification!of!educational!standards!and!programming!to!others,!and!still!others!seek!diversity!in!practice!settings!and!membership.!There!are!members!who!also!suggest!more!public!awareness!and!professional!recognition!is!lacking!within!the!healthcare!industry.!!This!is!all!relevant!and!true.!It!also!is!apparent!that!one!individual!cannot!accomplish!this!alone.!I!agree!with!the!statement!completely!!Therefore,!the!only!way!these!challenges!will!be!addressed!is!if!we!ALL!contribute!and!participate!in!the!process.!We!will!need!collective!and!shared!action.!My!role!will!be!to!clarify!the!vision,!set!the!tone!and!tenor,!and!assist!with!the!process!of!keeping!us!all!moving!forward!towards!success.!!The!role!of!the!district!has!evolved!to!be!a!critical!asset!in!providing!resources!to!the!states.!Not!only!has!it!become!a!financial!asset,!but!the!ability!to!foster!collaboration!on!regulatory!strategy!and!orchestrate!communication!on!shared!resources!has!become!an!integral!role!to!the!state!leadership.!Furthermore,!networking!to!other!states!and!districts!beyond!our!own!has!ever!more!meaning!in!this!age!of!a!global!economy!and!the!advent!of!telemedicine.!!!It!will!take!strategic!thinking,!deliberate!actions,!and!empowerment!of!our!human!resources!in!such!a!way!that!success!is!accomplished.!In!working!with!clients!and!management!outside!of!the!athletic!training!world,!I!have!gained!a!new!perspective!in!conducting!the!business!of!athletic!training.!Being!able!to!express!our!value!in!metrics!that!reflect!return!on!investment!and!accountability!for!results!will!serve!as!a!framework!for!much!of!what!I!plan!to!accomplish.!!Since!I!am!actively!engaged!at!the!state,!district,!and!national!levels,!I!believe!I!understand!the!issues!before!us.!Additionally,!knowing!how!“hard”!it!is!at!the!state!level!to!accomplish!goals,!my!current!work!ethic!has!more!than!adequately!prepared!me!to!provide!the!guidance!and!direction!to!the!teams!we!have!in!place!with!modest!enhancements.!!!Therefore,!I!ask!for!your!vote!for!the!office!of!GLATA!President8elect.!With!your!support,!we!will!look!to!strengthen!our!voice!on!the!national!stage.!We!will!leverage!the!successful!leadership!of!our!states!to!better!position!the!AT!in!the!marketplace.!And!in!doing!so,!we!will!do!it!in!a!way!that!all!of!us!will!feel!the!empowerment!that!comes!with!successfully!achieving!our!goals!together.!!Schools(Attended:(( (Miami!University,!Oxford,!OH!BSEd,!1987!!Indiana!University,!Bloomington,!IN!MS,!1989!!
