SYNOPSIS Awards and Recognitions
o First ever Distinguished Professor at Anderson School of Management– University of
New Mexico named in 2007.
o I have a number of articles that appear in top level journals in the Business and in the
Technology Management fields. I have articles that are in the top business journals
listed on the Financial Times top 45 journals in Business. These articles appear in
Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice (1 article), Journal of Business Venturing (1),
Operations Research (2), California Management Review (3) and Management
International Review (1). I also have 6 articles in the IEEE Transactions on
Engineering Management considered the top journal in technology management. I
have many other (over 50) publications in very good journals as well.
o I have also been listed in a 1990 survey by Eom and Lee entitled "DSS (Decision
Support Systems) Applications Development Research: Leading Institutions and Most
Frequent Contributors" in the September 1990 issue of Decision Support Systems (6:3,
pp. 269-275) as one of the most frequent contributors to the literature. The research
area has been one in which I have received a number of research grants.
o A 1996 article in Interfaces (26:2, pp.16-21) ranked The University of New Mexico
14th in contributions to the Operations Research/ Management Science practice
literature. I have contributed to that ranking as seen by my Operations Research and
Interfaces articles.
o A survey by Linton entitled “PERSPECTIVE: Ranking Business Schools on the
Management of Technology” in the November 2004 issue of the Journal of Product
Innovation Management (21:6, pp. 416–430) ranks the Management of Technology
(MOT) Program at the University of New Mexico as 6th in the U.S. I am the founder
of the program.
o I have been invited to give many presentations at national and international
conferences.
o I held many professorships at Anderson including the Regents’ Professorship, the
Albert Franklin Black Professorship in Entrepreneurship, the ASM Foundation
Professorship
o I am the first recipient of the ASM Endowed Chair in Economic Development.
Professional Experience o I serve/served on the Board of Directors of the Women Economic Self Sufficiency
Team (WESST) and Share Your Care (a non-profit that specializes in providing
day services to persons with Alzheimer's and related Dementia, as well as adults
with developmental disabilities and severely disabling mental illness). I have
served on many boards of small startups such as Mesosystems and PatchWorks. I
Sul Kassicieh Page 3
Curriculum Vita February 2017
served on many other boards such as the NM Information Technology Association
and the Micro and Nano Commercialization Education Foundation.
o I am a partner in Sandia Capital Partners, a New Mexico investment banking group.
I also serve on the advisory board for Verge, a New Mexico seed capital group. I
was a consultant to Ardesta, a Michigan-based $100million venture fund focused
on nanotechnology and Microsystems.
o I consulted with many local, national and international organizations such as Sandia
National Laboratories Los Alamos National Laboratory, Ardesta and Public
Service Company of New Mexico.
o I worked with a large number of high-technology start-up firms. This work involved
writing business plans, assessing the technology and assisting in getting angel or
venture capital. Some of the companies involved are Management Sciences,
Willow Systems, Khoral Research, Permafresh, Mesosystems, Applied Research
Associates, PatchWork Systems and many other start-ups.
o I have developed (with Raul DeGouvea) many university exchanges with several
universities in Brazil that send students every summer to UNM for seminars on
innovation and globalization.
External Fund Raising and Donor Cultivation Although the conventional wisdom suggests that external funding is much more difficult
in business schools, I have developed a number of avenues for external funding:
ENDOWMENTS:
o I have been successful in raising funds to fund prizes and expenses for the
Technology Business Plan Competition and Entrepreneurial Challenge since 2005.
This amount totals $150,000 per year with $50,000-$100,000 in prizes and
$100,000 to support the activities ranging from seminars on technological
entrepreneurship to the awards dinner, advertising, etc.
o I have led the effort to fund the Radosevich Room for MOT and Entrepreneurship
in the renovated Anderson Graduate School building.
o The MOT Program has developed the reputation based on work done with the
community to receive the PNM Chair in Microsystems Commercialization and
Technology for 5 years (2002-2006).
RESEARCH GRANTS AND CONTRACTS: my curriculum vita lists the research grants/contracts
received from Sandia, Los Alamos, Kauffman Foundation, WERC and other funding
sources. Total is more than $5,000,000.
