La Costa Smeralda nasce nel 1962 insieme ai suoi primi alberghi, il Cervo e il Cala Di Volpe. Il Pitrizza e il Romazzino arrivano subito dopo, ed è l’inizio di un’era d’oro per questo angolo di Sardegna: la nobiltà del tempo, i divi di Holly-wood e i big dell’industria cominciarono ad abi-tarla, e diventò la meta preferita del jet set inter-nazionale, un paradiso naturale a sole due ore di volo dalla maggior parte delle capitali europee. A cinquant’anni di distanza la Costa Smeralda conserva immutato il suo fascino. I suoi ospiti continuano a fare delle suite, delle lobby, delle piscine e spiagge private degli alberghi la loro seconda casa. Il Cala di Volpe, disegnato per sembrare un antico villaggio di pescatori dagli archi irregolari, i pavimenti di ginepro, i colori pastello, resta uno degli alberghi più glamour del Mediterraneo. Altra cosa è il Pitrizza, trion-fo della discrezione e della riservatezza, con le sue suite e ville nascoste nella selvaggia natura mediterranea, a due passi dalla spiaggia. Il Rom-azzino invece è un borgo mediterraneo dalle linee sinuose, rigorosamente bianche e azzurre, adagiato su una spiaggia di sabbia candida. Le sue ville, ciascuna con piscina privata, ne sono la naturale estensione verso il mare turchese della Costa Smeralda. The Costa Smeralda was established in 1962 when the first hotels, Hotel Cervo and Hotel Cala di Volpe, were built. Hotel Pitrizza opened its doors in 1963 and Hotel Romazzino in 1965. This marked the start of a whole new era for the Costa Smeralda: members of the international nobility, Hollywood celebrities and business leaders began pouring in, turning it into a chic jet set destination, a natu-ral paradise just a two-hour flight from mainland Europe. Fifty years on from that golden era, the Costa Smeralda remains an incomparably beautiful corner of unspoilt Sar-dinia. Now world-renowned for the exceptional standard of its hospitality, it is a second home to the internation-al jet set, who fill the lobbies, suites, swimming pools and private beaches of four of the world’s most prestigious ho-tels. Featuring artistically arranged porticos, juniper wood floors, arches and steps, Hotel Cala di Volpe was designed in the style of a traditional fishing village, and remains the Mediterranean’s most glamorous hideaway. The Pitrizza, on the other hand, is a triumph of understated sophisti-cation, a haven where space, in the form of gardens that separate its villas from the private beach, is the real lux-ury.
