History of the Moravian Church

The Moravian Church had its origin in the pre- Reformation awakening under John Hus. Pro -claim ing that Jesus Christ is Lord, the MoravianChurch is recognized as the oldest organizedProtestant denomination in the world. Celebrat-ing the sacraments of Holy Communion and baptism, the Moravian Church places much emphasis on mission, music, and education.

In agreement with the other creeds of the Christian Church, such as the Apostles’ Creed, theNicene Creed, and the Augsburg Confession, theMoravian Church has adopted as its basic motto,“In essentials, unity; in nonessentials, liberty; in allthings, love.”

Central’s Director of MusicRebecca Lepore has been theDirector of Music and Organistat Central Moravian Churchsince 2002, is an adjunct facultymember at Moravian College,serves as the Organist andChoir Director of the Mora-vian Theological Seminary andis a former University Organistof Lehigh University. She waspreviously the Senior Organistat the nationally televised Coral Ridge PresbyterianChurch in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, as well as an AssistantGrand Court Organist at the Wanamaker Organ inPhiladelphia, the largest playing organ in the world.Becky graduated with an Artist Diploma in organ per-formance from the world-renowned Curtis Institute ofMusic in Philadelphia, PA and received her Bachelor ofMusic degree, magna cum laude, from Moravian College.

In addition to her CDs recorded at Central MoravianChurch, Becky recorded three CDs with Tim Zimmer-man and the King’s Brass: The Best of Brass, Christmas inEurope, and Classic Hymns, and also recorded His Truth isMarching Onwith the Coral Ridge Presbyterian ChurchChoir. Becky is a published composer and has organworks published through Alfred Music Publications,MorningStar Music Publishers, and the Moravian MusicFoundation. Becky has most recently edited the newlyreleasedPraise and Thanksgiving: 275 Years ofMusic at Central Moravian Church.

The music committee, chaired by Llyena Boylan, overseesthe music program at Central Moravian Church in con-junction with the Director of Music and the Senior Pastor.
