    Carnegie Library

Legislator Rob Calarco,Mayor Paul Pontieri andSuffolk County ExecutiveSteve Bellone were onhand to celebrate the firstleg of the actual move ofthe iconic PatchogueCarnegie Library from itsoriginal location on LakeStreet to its new home onSixth District Courtproperty on West Avenueand West Main Street.

The historic building, which has been sitting onsteel girders and primedfor the special day, effectedthe move rather quickly to

the corner of HavensAvenue and Lake Street. At midnight the buildingwill complete its journeyacross the Caroll andHenrietta Swezey MedicalPavillion, down WestAvenue to the southeastcorner of the county courtproperty, a temporarylocation. The goal is toplace the library on thenorthwest corner of thecourt property.

The process to pry thebuilding from itsfoundation, place it ongirders and then wheels is

a finely tuned operationlong perfected by WolfeHouse & Building Moversfrom Bernville, PA.

This has been a longtime in coming and aproject that takesPatchogue back to itsroots. In committing tomove this library ratherthan tear it down, infinding a new use for it weare preserving the culturalhistory of PatchogueVillage, said LegislatorCalarco.
