Pelvic Pain: Potential CausesUp to 16% of women experience chronic pelvic pain, but only 1/3 seek medical care. Women with CPP need to seek a specialist in diagnostics and treatment. For complex GYN conditions, the wrong treatment can actually make some conditions worse.

ENDOMETRIOSISEndometriosis is the presence of endometrial tissue outside of the uterus and it is

the most common cause of pelvic pain. Minimally invasive endometriosis removal is possible through procedures that preserve the uterus, tubes, and ovaries, however a hysterectomy may be required.

FIBROIDSFibroids are benign tumors that may grow very large and can affect urinary and

bowel function. Acute pain can occur with degeneration, twisting, or expulsion of the fibroid through the cervix. Fibroids can be surgically removed through myomectomy or hysterectomy.

ADENOMYOSISAdenomyosis is the presence of endometrial tissue in the uterine wall and causes

heavy bleeding and pain with menstruation. The only adenomyosis surgery that cures this condition is a hysterectomy.

GYN conditions that may be causes of CPP include:

Pelvic Pain: Potential Causes

PELVIC ADHESIONSDense adhesions from infection, endometriosis, or prior surgery can cause chronic

pelvic pain. Laparoscopic resection of adhesions is the preferred method due to less pain, faster recovery, and less risk of new adhesions.

OVARIAN CANCERMalignant tumors, the majority developing from cells in the lining of the ovary.

Ovarian cancer stage is determined surgically and is usually the initial step in treatment followed by chemotherapy and, in some cases, radiation.

INTERSTITIAL CYSTITISAlso known as painful bladder syndrome (PBS), interstitial cystitis is a chronic

inflammatory condition that can increase the need to urinate frequently. Therapies vary by the risk of adverse reactions and the invasiveness of the treatment.

Other GYN conditions that may be causes of CPP include:

The Center for Innovative GYN Care specialists provide innovative minimally invasive options for treatment of pelvic pain like laparoscopic myomectomy, laparoscopic hysterectomy or laparoscopic resection of endometriosis and pelvic adhesions. Learn more on InnovativeGYN.com

through innovative minimally invasive procedures, far superior to the alternatives:

DualPortGYNThis surgical approach uses only 2 tiny incisions to treat all GYN conditions

and it is the least invasive GYN surgery available in the world today.LAAMThis is the safest laparoscopic fibroid removal surgery with preservation of

the uterus for fertility and it only uses 2 small incisions.
