Nanyang Technological University (NTU) has made it tothe top 10 in the latest QS University Rankings for Asia. Itrose seven notches in the rankings, coming in 10thposition this year. The National University of Singapore(NUS) is in second, moving up a notch from its thirdposition last year.

SINGAPORE: Nanyang Technological University (NTU) has made

it to the top 10 in the latest QS University Rankings for Asia. It rose

seven notches in the rankings, coming in 10th position this year, up

from 17th spot in 2012.

It is the first time that NTU has made it to the top 10 in the QS

rankings for the region.

The National University of Singapore (NUS) is in second, the same

position that it held last year.

The top spot in 2013 goes to Hong Kong University of Science

and Technology (HKUST). The University of Hong Kong is third in

Asia this year, sliding a notch from the second spot that it shared

with NUS last year.

In a statement, Quacquarelli Symonds, which produces the QS

rankings each year, also said NUS is the top-performing institution

in the region in its employer reputation survey. It said that the result

reflects the "excellent reputation" that NUS graduates have among

Asian employers.

NUS also ranks second for citations per paper, suggesting it is

producing highly influential research.

The rankings offer less encouraging news for Japan, which sees

its top institution -- University of Tokyo -- slip to ninth, its lowest-

ever position. Of the leading 10 Japanese Universities, just one

ranks higher than last year, while six rank lower.

The annual QS University Rankings for Asia ranks the region's top

300 universities based on weighted criteria. These include

academic reputation, employer reputation, student-faculty ratio,

paper published per faculty and citations per paper.
