2018 Redwood Writers Anthology SUBMISSION GUIDELINES The theme for the 2018 Redwood Writers anthology is Redemption. The title, Redemption: Stories from the Edge, reflects what the editor is looking for. Edgy stories about: · Epiphanies that changed a person’s direction away from hopelessness · Act of redeeming or atoning for a fault or mistake, or the state of being redeemed · Deliverance, rescue · Atonement for guilt · Getting back what is owed to you What makes a story edgy? · A story having a sharp, exciting quality · A gripping story that tackles difficult subjects: addiction, crime, search for identity, etc. · A style that pushes boundaries and draws readers in · Someone with a distinct voice or eccentric way of viewing the world compels us to watch or listen to them. Have fun with this genre as you stretch your abilities to meet the challenge. RULES: · The story must relate to the theme of the anthology: Redemption. · The Redwood Branch of the California Writers Club is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and supporting the education of writers. As a non-profit organization it is our position that the club and its publications do not engage in any political or religious activities. Stories that promote a specific political or religious doctrine will not be accepted. · Poetry will not be included, as there will be a separate 2018 Anthology dedicated to poetry. · DO NOT place your name or contact information anywhere on your submission. This is a blind judging. · Submit as a Word .doc or .docx. · Word count: No more than 2, 500 words. · Work must be previously unpublished by a traditional publisher (self-published works are acceptable.) · Format: Manuscripts must be double-spaced with 12-point, Times New Roman font. · Number the pages in the UPPER right corner. · Only ONE submission per entrant. · Please use the online form to submit your entry and payment. · Only submissions uploaded via the online form will be accepted for consideration. · If your story is accepted you will work with an editor to finalize the story. · If the editor-in-chief feels that you need to make specific edits for the integrity of the piece, you have the right to refuse; unfortunately, this eliminates the story from the anthology. · Immediate family members of judges and chairs of this contest are not eligible to submit. · Deadline: January 4, 2018. · Upon submission, if you choose to pay with a check, please make check out to “CWC Redwood,” and write “ANTHOLOGY 2018” on the memo line. · Please make your check to: Redwood Writers, P.O. Judges

SKYE BLAINE writes memoir, fiction, poetry, and blogs, developing themes of aging, coming of age, disability, and awakening. She received an MFA in Creative Writing from Antioch University in 2003. Her novel, Unleashed, was just published. Bound to Love: A Memoir of Grit and Gratitude was published in 2015 and has won three prizes. She is included in seven anthologies, and in national magazines: “Yes” and “Catalyst.” She teaches creative writing to older adults as Santa Rosa Junior College Adjunct Faculty.

DANIEL COSHNEAR works at a group home for homeless men and women suffering mental illness. He teaches creative writing through UC Berkeley Extension and occasionally runs workshops at The Sitting Room in Penngrove. He is author of two story collections: Jobs & Other Preoccupations (Helicon Nine, 2001), winner of the Willa Cather Award for Fiction, and Occupy & Other Love Stories (Kelly’s Cove Press, 2012). In 2015 he won the Novella Prize from Fiction Fix for Homesick Redux. 

BARBARA COTTRELL is the author of The Shadows of Miskatonic, a series of supernatural thrillers inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft. She is a member of the Horror Writers Association and presented her work at the 2016 Mystery Writers in the Mausoleum.

SHARON HAMILTON is a NYT and USAToday bestselling author most known for her SEAL Brotherhood series, her Golden Vampires of Tuscany, and Guardian Angels. All of Sharon’s books are available on eBooks.com (most formats), in print and at Audible. com. A lifelong organic gardener, Sharon lives with her husband in the Wine Country of Northern California, where most of her stories take place. When she’s not writing, she’s getting very, very dirty in the mud, or wandering farmer’s markets looking for new Heirloom varieties of vegetables and flowers.

JEAN WONG, author of Sleeping with the Gods and Hurtling Jade, is an award- winning poet and writer of fiction and memoir. Her work has been produced by the 6th Street Playhouse and other theatre venues. Jean writes from the bottom of a well, always amazed to look up and see the sky.
