{Prepare to persevere}This issue marks the rst anniversaryofStyle Sample (or close enoughtherst issue was released in April 2009).While I decided up front to take it se-riously and give my all to producingthe magazine, I honestly had no idea

if Id still be doing it over a year later.Sure, I had vague notions of becom-ing a cross between Anna Wintourand Oprah Winfrey, but really, whohasnt?

Some of the best advice Ive ever re-ceived centered around perseverance.Technology advances so rapidly nowthat people expect so-called overnightsuccess. Its not impossible, but manyof the most successful people havebeen honing their craft for years, and

not every idea they tried resulted intriumph. The idea here is not to giveup before opportunities present them-selves. I rmly believe that if you keepimproving and make it through TheDipa temporary setback that will get better if you keep moving forwardyou can be successful.

Speaking of success, there are plen-ty of worthy examples in this issue.Fashion design student Mary Cath-

erine Moody lets her creativity owthrough her designs, illustrationsand photography. Illustrator BrookeHagels feminine gures have led toseveral commercial commissions, andvintage acionado Shae left her onlineclothing boutique to pursue photogra-phy, with beautiful results.
