Erasmus+ provides grants for exchanges for students at Bachelor, Master and Doctoral level to study in
one of 33 European Erasmus+ programme countries for between 3 – 12 months as part of their study
programme through International Credit Mobility. Studying abroad is a central part of Erasmus+ and
has been shown to enhance language and intercultural skills, self-confidence and independence and to
encourage culture immersion. Future employers value the soft inter-cultural skills that students develop
during their time abroad. Erasmus+ also offers students the opportunity to combine a period of study in
a programme country with a traineeship to gain work experience — even more important when starting
out on the job market. The traineeships are available for Bachelor, Master or Doctoral level students.
ConditionsTo study abroad with Erasmus+, you need to be registered in a higher education institution that has
an Erasmus+ agreement with a European university. Bachelor-level students need to be at least in
their second year of studies. Your period of study abroad must be part of the study programme
that you are following and relevant to your personal development needs — the credits you earn
while abroad count towards your degree back home. You can only apply through the international
or Erasmus+ office of your home institution. The study period lasts from a minimum of 3 months
(or 1 academic term or trimester) to a maximum of 12 months.
Financial supportYou may receive an Erasmus+ grant as a contribution to your travel and subsistence cost as an Erasmus+
student, you will be exempted from fees for tuition, registration, examinations, and charges for accessing
laboratories or libraries at the receiving institution. Small fees for insurance or student union membership
may still apply.
Erasmus+ programme: international credit mobility
Erasmus Mundus ProgrammeAn Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) is a prestigious
integrated study programme jointly delivered by an international
consortium of higher education institutions. These programmes
award EU-funded scholarships to the best student candidates.
Study must take place in at least two of the European Programme
countries. The degree programme lasts a minimum of 12 months, to
a maximum of 24 months.
To receive an Erasmus Mundus scholarship, you first need to apply to one
of the 109 programmes offering scholarships in 2019. The best-ranked
students are offered a scholarship, which includes the participation costs,
a travel and living allowance covering the duration of the programme,
and insurance. The successful completion of the study programme will
lead to the award of either a joint degree — one single degree certificate
issued on behalf of at least two higher education institutions of the
EMJMD consortium — or multiple degrees: at least two degree certifi-
cates issued by two higher education institutions of the consortium.
Students should consult the online EMJMD Catalogue and contact the
consortium offering the Master Course for more information on courses
and application procedures.

In our promotion of Flanders and Brussels as a state of the art study destination, we support all our
public higher education institutions: 5 research universities and 13 universities of applied sciences.
According to the Reuters 2018 ranking, Belgium is a top choice: with seven schools on the list,
including the number one, but with a population of only 11 million people, we have more top 100 in-
novative universities per capita than any other country in Europe. Looking for an academic bachelor
programme, a master, a PhD; or a professional bachelor with internship experience, or a degree in
the Arts? You’ll find it in Flanders or Brussels.
