Volunteers…. Seismologists study seismic waves from earthquakes; they know that these seismic waves travel at differing speeds through different materials (liquid or solid regions of the Earth). Scientists also know the size of the Earth; by measuring how long it takes to detect seismic activity on opposite sides of the Earth, they have determined how much of the Earth is solid, liquid, and the composition of each layer.TRANSCRIPT
