NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS STUDY CLUB NEWS Dr. Warren Y. Avny recently was elected president of the Edgar D. Coolidge Endodontie Study Club. Assisting him will be Drs. Daniel Anderson, vice-president; Richard Gilbert, secretary; Joseph Wells, treasurer; and Peter Lio, program chairman. The annual seminar of the Coo- lidge Study Club, which presented Dr. Alfred L. Frank discussing "The inner game of endodontics," was held Sept 27 at the Loyola Universi- ty (Ill) School of Dentistry. At the breakfast meeting of the Harry J. Healey Study Club held during the past annual meeting of the American Association of Endo- dontists in Las Vegas, Dr. Michael F. Hutton wa.s elected president for 1978-1979. Other officers chosen are Drs. Duane E. Compton, vice-presi- dent, and Carl W. Newton, secre- tary-treasurer. A number of speakers provided stimulating and informati.ve presen- tations at the recent meeting of the Southern Endodontic Study Group ,,i + il Dr. Stuart B. Amato, "Surgical endodontics"; Bill Heinz, "Profit-sharing, pension, and investment programs"; Dr. Charles Scott, "Dentistry behind the Iron Curtain"; and Dr. Tom Mullaney, "Controversies in endodontics." INTERNATIONAL NEWS The George Hare Endodontic Study Club, which began in 1948 as the Toronto Endodontic Study Club, is entering its 30th year of operation in the Toronto community. Dr. George Hare, internationally recognized in endodontics and a charter member of the Toronto Endodontic Study Club, recently presented a check for $5,500 to the University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry for purchase of a photomi- croscope to commemorate the anni- versary. Formerly head of the endo- dontic department at the University of Toronto, Dr. Hare no longer is teaching but still maintains an active practice and continues his educa- tion. Recently, Dr. R. I. Brooke, Uni- versity of Western Ontario Faculty of Dentistry, discussed "Pain of dental and nondental origin-differential diagnosis in difficult patients" at a study club meeting. The 1978-1979 program also is planning to feature a "Members' Night" on Dec 6 when members will present cases of interest and charter members of the Toronto Endodontic Study Club, 1948, will be honored. The final regular meeting of the season will be held next Jan 31, at which time Dr. Barry H. Korzen, head of endodontics, University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry, will present "Periapical surgery." An all-day seminar sponsored by
