A lot morebroadcastingFor a lot less money

The OnAir 1500 has been designed as aflexible console for on-air and productionbroadcasting applications. It is a compact, rugged and cost-effective solution for a radiostudio, small TV studio, small OB truck andproduction room.

The basic surface can mix up to 6channels, and includes all the controlsnecessary for mixing a simple show. Cleveruse of the simple physical desk controlsallows users, with suitable access rights, control of all desk parameters such assnapshots, routing, Aux, N-x levels, EQ. andmuch else without the need for screen, keyboard or mouse.

Flexibility is increased with the addition ofthe 6-fader extension bay, creating a split12 fader surface, or alternatively theadditional 6 faders may be remotely placedin a producer’s bay or news room.

This bay requires a simple CAT 5 cable toconnect to the DSP.

The OnAir 1500 is designed for usestraight out of the box, with simple plugand play operation. However, for themore involved owner the system iscompletely configurable, much like its bigbrothers the OnAir 3000 and OnAir 2500.The depth of configuration andcustomization up to the user, and whenrequired can be altered to accommodate afacility’s changing needs and growth.

Broadcasting should be fun, not scary, forthe DJ and for the Engineer. Thoughuncomplicated in its surface design, theplatform supporting the system allows theconsole and operation to be tailored toaccommodate every level of user.

Every user is different and the OnAir 1500is designed to accommodate everyone, from the veteran DJ who wants to be ableto tailor his desk to fit his exact needs, tomaking the overnight newcomer totallycomfortable as the desk surface is presetand locked to give them just the rightamount of control.

Meet your jingle playerThe OnAir 1500 features unique functionality simplynot available in consoles of this size and priceFitted to the NANO SCore are two USBports. The one marked REC/PLAY can beused with a normal USB memory stick as asource for audio for playback of standardWAV files created on any PC/MAC ormany portable recorders. It can also beused to record audio from the OnAir1500itself when using the console as aproduction desk to create jingles andcommercials. The integrated audio routermay be used to send any of the desk

busses to the USB memory stick. It is thuseasy to record only parts of a programme, such as interviews recorded off-air for laterlive playback, or the DJ mic channel forarchive or training, for example.

In addition the USB memory stick may also contain jingles for instant directplayback triggered by the four dedicatedjingle player keys on the desk surface.

A second USB port allows connection ofup to 8 channels of digital I/O from a DAWsystem for multitrack playback andrecording, from a CAB automated playoutsystem or for logging purposes.

The DATA/LOGIN USB port is used toidentify the operator.

Share the workThe mixer that’s ready to integrateThe OnAir 1500 incorporates numeroussystem applications as standard. (Some ofthese options require licences).

Integration with Router Control

Like its larger brothers the OnAir 2500 andOnAir 3000, the OnAir 1500 can interfacewith routing control systems such as VSM,Probel and Monitora, including the ability totransfer source labelling between systemswherever they are generated, and whichappear on the channel OLED display forthe channel name.

RELINK Integration

The OnAir 1500 can be easily integratedwithin Studer RELINK (the managed I/Osharing system), which can link numerousStuder consoles in various locations of aBroadcast facility to allow audio source andcontrol data sharing across a wide network.

One of the benefits of the Studer RELINKsystem in comparison to others is that it isbased totally on Studer’s existing SCoreplatform which is an integral part of Studerconsole architecture, so no additionalhardware or breakout boxes are required tocomplete the network.

Communicating over TCP/IP with each other, any combination of Studer Vista (5, 6, 7, 8 &9), the OnAir 1500, 2500 and 3000 consoles,as well as Route 6000 can link via RELINK.

RELINK is seamless, scalable and flexible. Itcan start with a simple link between twoStuder consoles, right through to multi-console systems using a two-step topologywhere all signals are routed through a centralStuder Route 6000 system.

A resilient mic take-over mechanism ensuresthat mic control parameters such as analoguegain, phantom voltage, etc. are notunintentionally changed but require conscioustake-over confirmation.See RELINK Brochure Part No. BD10.266010

Call Management System (CMS)

Naturally integration with Studer’s own CallManagement System is included. CMSallows the DJ or Producer to handle largenumbers of phone lines and callers, be theylisteners, external reporters or even gamingand voting events.

Studer‘s CMS uses VoIP (Voice OverInternet Protocol) technology tosupplement or replace expensive physical

telephone hybrids and codecs, possiblyreplacing all the Codecs in a Broadcastfacility with all control under theCMS/OnAir software. A server PCinterfaces to standard POTS and ISDNlines, as well as almost any PBX with a VoIPinterface.

The CMS software applications have anintuitive and user friendly GUI to easilycover various roles in the Broadcaster‘s dailybusiness (DJ, Producer, Engineer). Waitingrooms, gaming and voting can all beintegrated through the console interface.

Infinite flexibilityConfigured just for you

Packed with functionality for Production, oreasy to use for unskilled operators for on-air situations, the OnAir 1500 has theflexibility to cope.

Each input channel has access to 4-bandparametric EQ, noise gate, compressor, limiter, expander and de-esser, so can be

used in the heart of production or simplyto compensate on-air for sibilance fromtalent or guests.

The 7-segment display indicates time-of-day but can be switched over to act as amanual or a fader –triggered stop watch orcount-down timer. If the USB player/

recorder is used, the display can also giveinformation on the current track numberand duration.

To avoid accidentally engaging key functionswhich would disrupt a broadcast, controlfeatures may be locked out andconfigurations saved.

Colour coding surface features allow the userto operate easily and efficiently. Peoplerespond to colours much quicker than theydo to something they read. Seeing theconsole rotary controls highlighted in red letsthe user know they are adjusting the EQ of achannel, or selecting a bus master that lightsup orange tells them they’re listening to anauxiliary. Better visual feedback means lessmistakes on air!

Colour coding

In addition to the dedicated Program andRecord busses there are 4 further busses thatmay be configured as any combination of N-xor general use Auxiliary – you can evenchoose them to be mono or stereo busses.

Bus control

A comprehensive monitoring system is availabledirectly on the surface. Headphone Split modeallows the user to listen to two differentsources at the same time for programmejunction and cueing purposes; one mono’dsource through the left and the other mono’dsource through the right. Preset buttons alsoallow one touch control of all monitoring. A second complete monitoring system isavailable for a second room and may becontrolled via the optional remote monitoringand talkback unit.

Monitoring

Customizing your console has never beeneasier. 12 soft-assign keys are on the surface, ready to be assigned any feature or functionyour studio needs. The custom-label keys canbe used for features such as snapshotselections, triggering playback of files on theJingle player, or perhaps an external GPIO youwant quick access to.

Soft Keys

Accommodating automation systems and routersis also no problem for the OnAir1500. With 3major protocols available with a license fromPro-Bel, Monitora, and Ember based systems canbe integrated seamlessly. So, whether you’refuture-proofing your investment oraccommodating a new broadcast workflow, theOnAir1500 is ready to go and easy to configure.

3rd Party Protocols

CMS

Snapshots can be created for easy recall ofsurface settings and channel configuration. Forstudios being used for multiple shows andapplications, the snapshots allow quick and easyrecall ability of settings for each show. Anewscaster or journalist can sit down and loada configured snapshot with the surety of acomplete and accurate recall of his systemsetup at the push of a pair of buttons. This givesthe possibility for each user of the OnAir1500having their own customized and familiarsurface to work from every day. The studiomanager can create global access snapshotswhich are read only.

Snapshots

Each channel can be quickly assigned to theRecord bus with one touch. Alternatively, engaging the OFF AIR button, the recordfunction assigns the channel to off-air recordmode enabling the user to record a phoneinterview during a commercial break and neverleave the desk or change the surface snapshot.

Off Air Record

The OnAir 1500 may be used with the CallManagement System [CMS] to allow easy andefficient management of telephone calls.Signalling, PFL and talkback are between desk andCMS are provided and you can even see thename of the caller automatically on the channelfader display on the desk if supported by thePTT. Whether it’s an Intern organizing callers togo on-air, or managing a live phone conferencedebate – the system offers all the tools to makean interactive show with listeners a breeze.
