Key words: (ESP, Reading Comprehension)

This study was focusing on the students’ difficulties reading comprehension in ESP

and the students’ effort to solve their difficulties reading comprehension in ESP at

Tarbiyah Department University of Muhammadiyah Malang. ESP is English for

Specific Purposes that is the program at University of Muhammadiyah Malang to

help the students to improve their knowledge especially in their field of study.

The study was a descriptive with quantitative research design. The subjects of

the study were the students of Tarbiyah Department in the third semester of

University of Muhammadiyah Malang. They consisted of two classes; they are A and

B classes. A class consists of 35 students and B class consists of 40 students. Thus,

the number of all students is 75 students. The study used questionnaire to collect the

data. Then, the collected data were analyzed by using percentage method,

where (P: Percentage, F: Frequency answer, and N: The number of student).

The result of the study shows that difficulties faced by the students in reading

ESP relate to language and meta linguistic problems, phonological processing

problems, word recognition problems, text- processing problems and other difficulty,

such as; lecturer, and the teaching method or the instruction was not interesting.

However, although it was hard, the students already had solution to solve their

difficulties.
