LATERAL AND FINAL PLACEMENTS – THE CONCEPT

The placements are conducted at the end of the second year for final

year students. After an extensive education process in different functional

areas such as Marketing, Finance, Consulting, Organizational Behavior,

Economics, Operation, Information and Technology, the batch of 2011-

13 is now ready to face the challenges of the industry as a part of different

organizations. They carry with them, the in depth knowledge gained during

their summer internships with different organizations, the academic

knowledge imbibed through various electives across the different verticals,

library based self-study, group work, discussions and the exposure to a

variety of real world problems in terms of the different competitions, live

projects that each student has been a part of at IIM Kozhikode.

During placements, companies are allotted slots based on a democratic

slotting process. The process for laterals, a process by which the

companies can select candidates with relevant work experience will start

in the third week of December and the final placements would be from

the second week of January. The companies would either visit the campus

or do an offline recruitment process and then select the candidates who

would be a right fit to their organization.

WHY SHOULD COMPANIES RECRUIT FROM CAMPUS?

� Campus placements is an avenue for companies to pick future

business leaders from the richest management talent pool in thecountry

� A continuous increase in the number of companies with over 135

companies becoming a part of the recruitment process last year, isindicative of this process becoming a preferred form of recruitment

� Students from diverse backgrounds and work experience, after a

compulsory summer internship with organizations and training, aremore aware and in a better position to provide an unbiased andobjective view of the processes in the organization

After a rigorous two year training program at IIM Kozhikode, the Post Graduate Program batch of 2011-

13 is now ready to face the corporate industry and become an integral part of prestigious organizations

across the world this January. The batch comprises of students from all corners of the country and

represents diverse backgrounds. This publication is intended to help you, as a recruiter, to reach out to

the best students that are suited to your company

PLACEMENTS PROCESS

Step 1(November, 2012, 2nd week onwards)

The company contacts thePlacements Committee, schedulesa date and makes a PPT to thestudents interested and eligible toparticipate in the process.

Step 2(December, 2012, 1st week onwards)

The resumes of interestedcandidates are sent to thecompany. The company in turnreverts with a shortlist. Thecompany’s slot in the placementprocess is confirmed by thePlacement Committee. The slot isdetermined by the students withthe help of a democratic slottingprocess.

Step 3 (i)(December, 2012, 3rd week onwards)

The selection process for thelaterals begins. The companieslook into the interested candidateswho would be eligible to apply andrecruit the students suitable fortheir organizations

Step 3 (ii)(January 2013, 2nd week onwards)

The final placement processbegins. Selection of variousparticipating companies areorganized by slots. Recruitmentprocesses of companies in thesame slot progress in parallel.

Step 4(April, 2013)

Final acceptance of the offers iscommunicated to the company,and the students are available tojoin work from April.

FINAL PLACEMENTS 2011-12 - AN OVERVIEW

The Final Placements 2012 of IIM Kozhikode witnessed theparticipation of 135 companies making offers to 317 studentsacross all vertcals. In spite of recessionary pressures, IIMKozhikode strived to carve out a niche for itself by placing its14th batch in reputed companies like Deutsche Bank,Goldman Sachs, TAS, HUL, ITC etc. The average salary perstudent also saw a rise of 7% over pervious year’s figures.

The number of PPOs offered too saw and increase of around183% from 18 in the previous year to 51 in 2012. Many studentsalso decided to join start-ups to test their entrepreneurialabilities and venture into newer domains.

GETTING TO KOZHIKODE

Location

Kozhikode (also called Calicut) is the third-largest city inthe state of Kerala. The capital of the erstwhile Malabardistrict, Kozhikode city is the headquarters of theKozhikode district. A melting-pot of diverse cultures,Kozhikode is an important trade centre in south India,associated for long with trade in spices and silk. Today,Kozhikode is famous for its palm-fringed beaches,tropical forests, and Ayurvedic therapy. You can plan onextending your stay if you wish to tour other parts ofKerala.

Travel

Kozhikode is well connected by air, rail and road to majorcities in India. Indian Airlines, Spice Jet and Jet Airwayshave frequent flights from Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbaito Kozhikode International Airport. Cochin InternationalAirport is a 4-hour drive from Kozhikode. Alternately,Cochin and Kozhikode are connected by direct flights.

Kozhikode International Airport is connected by dailydirect flights to major cities in the Middle East.
