Madhhab: School of Thought

The second and third century of the Islamic calendar saw the emergence of four schools of religious thought, Madhahib (plural for Madhhab).

These Madhahib established principles of observing religious obligations in accordance with the Qur'an and teachings of Rasulullah (s).

Hanafi Madhhab Named after Abu Hanifa. He was born in Kufa, Iraq 699 C.E / 80 A.H. This Madhhab is the largest of the four covering 45% of the Muslim population. Regions include Central Asia, several Arab countries, Turkey, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Russia, southern Egypt and China Maliki Madhhab Named after Malik Ibn Anas of Madinah. He was born in 714 C.E / 94 A.H. roughly 25% of the Muslim population follow this madhhab. Mainly in North and West Africa. Shafi'i Madhhab Named after Imam As-Shafi'i. He was born in 767 C.E / 150 A.H in Palestine. Roughly 15% of the Muslim population follow the Shafi'i school of thought. Countries include Syria, Palestine, Somalia, Indonesia and Sri Lanka. Hanbali Madhhab Named after Ahmad ibn-Hanbal. Was born in 780 C.E. / 164 A.H in Baghdad. The Hanbali school of thought is followed predominantly in Saudi Arabia and Qatar. All four Madhahib based their opinion on the guidance of the Quran and Sunnah. All Madhahib unanimously agree on Aqeedah (basic tenets of faith). But differ on small matters of jurisprudence or Fiqh e.g. the placement of hands during salah. These differences only occurred because one scholar may have chosen to give more weight to one Verse of the Quran or one Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (saws) than another Scholar. One should know that the difference between the opinion of one school to the other is never between right and wrong, but rather between good and best.

Virtues of Durood Shareef

Allah and His angels send blessings on the Prophet: O you who believe! Send your blessings on him, and salute him with all respect.

(Surah al-Ahzab: 56)

1. For every Durood Shareef that you recite, ten sins are forgiven, ten good deeds are entered into your sheet of actions and ten positions are upgraded.

2. Most of us do not know that duaa is suspended between the heavens and earth until

we send salawat on the Prophet sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam. Umar radi Allahu anhu said, “Duaa is suspended between heaven and earth and none of it is taken up until you send blessings upon your Prophet sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam.”

3. The first man who will meet the Prophet (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim) on the Day of

Judgement will be that person who had recited the Durood maximum number of times in his life time.

4. Those who recite Durood in maximum number will be nearest and dearest to the

Holy Prophet (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim) in the next world.

5. If anyone is involved in any difficulty then he must recite countless number of Durood Shareefs.

6. Reciting Durood Shareef eradicates poverty and hunger.

9. Reciting maximum number of Durood Shareef is full compensation of all sins.

10. Anyone who recites excessive Durood Shareef in this world will be safe and sound in

the next world.

11. Three persons will be under the cool shade and the favours of Allah Ta'ala on the Doom's Day. One who kept the Holy Prophet's (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim) Sunnah alive, one who removed difficulty of a fellow being and one who recited maximum number of Durood Shareef in his life time.

12. When you forget anything and your memory fails to recollect it, then recite Durood,

you will remember the forgotten thing.

13. Anyone who wants to meet his Allah with a happy face must recite countless number of Durood Shareef.

14. If anyone meets in a tragedy, he should recite Durood Shareef in countless numbers.

15. If the name of the Holy Prophet (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim) is mentioned and one

who hears it but does not recite Durood Shareef, understand that he has forgotten the path to Paradise.

16. "I pray for all those who recite Durood on me", said the Holy Prophet (Sallal Laahu

Alaihi Wasallim).

17. If anyone recites Durood Shareef from any place, any part of the world from any distance, it actually reaches the Holy Prophet (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim) immediately. Allah Ta'ala has appointed several Angels who are given exclusive duty to collect all Durood Shareef and present the same before the Holy Prophet (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim) immediately.

18. Angels of Allah shower 70 blessings on a man who recites Durood once.

The Virtues of Durood have been taken from the following Hadith collections: Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud, Muwatta, Nisaai', Ibn-Majah, Darmi, Baihaqi and Miskhaat Shareef.
