Only senior students (currently 2nd year and beyond) are eligible to apply

You will be appointed for one year and be paid on a monthly basis. If you discontinue with your studies, the

appointment will automatically be cancelled.

The descriptions for the positions that are available are listed below. Please read this carefully and make sure

that you do meet the requirements, and that you will be able to work the amount of hours stipulated before

you apply.

Applications close on Friday, 16 October 2015.

There is no application form. You should submit the following application documents electronically and in

Student Internship: Voluntary Community Engagement (VCE)

Job description:

This is a non-academic credit-bearing Community Engagement programme, crafted for and presented to

international students, by the Post Graduate and International Office of Stellenbosch University. The internship will

incorporate the following;

logistical assistance of; VCE site-visits (twice a week),including;

transport arrangements, moving equipment between the community project site and the PGIO,

programme related purchases,

accompany international students on all site visits,

facilitate the on-site planning meeting immediately after the weekly sessions,

participate in ongoing training and supervision with the Community Engagement Programmes co-ordinator,

manage all VCE email correspondence by checking the VCE account daily and keep an audio-visual record of

the processes,

manage weekly journal, diary and planning submissions,

attend weekly supervision with the Community Engagement Programmes co-ordinator

submit a progress report weekly and a timesheet (work-log) at every supervision session

liaise with relevant PGIO staff regarding finances and transport

preparedness to be involved in institutional networking and collaboration and to maintain the programme’s

social media platforms

pass on the knowledge and insights gained during the internship with the incumbent for the following year

Requirements: Have excellent communication skills. Have and maintain sound, above average academic record.

Must be able to fit the required amount of 15 hours per week into his/her study schedule without compromising

studente, deur die Nagraadse en Internasionale Kantoor van die Universiteit Stellenbosch. Die internskap sal die

Student Internship: Learning, Sustainability and Community Engagement (LSCE)

Job description

logistical assistance to LSCE participants regarding transport arrangements (train and motor vehicle), moving

Student Internship: Short Programmes, Incoming Summer Schools & Integration

Job Description:

Responding to written and electronic enquiries from Short Programme and Summer School students

General administrative tasks (photocopying, paperwork, filing, etc.) within the International Student Mobility

(ISM) Unit with regards to processing, admission and registration of Short Programme and Summer school

students.

Assisting with logistical aspects of Short Programmes and Summer schools.

Support during the June/July holiday- live with students in university residence during the Winter School

Support during the orientation at the beginning of each new Short Programme, including conducting campus

tours.

Support for international student integration events, such as Langa/Gugs Tours, Matie Buddy etc.

Any other task as required within the ISM Unit.

Requirements:

Excellent organisational, administrative skills. Computer skills in MS Office. Good written and spoken

communication skills in English. Ability to work under pressure. Driver’s license. Must be willing to work 15 hours

flexible during a week, including availability to work evenings/ weekends and during University holidays. Should be

available before the start of the academic year.

Recommendations: Previous administrative experience. The ability to work as part of a team. Must show own

Student Internship: Affiliates & Freemovers

Job description:

Responding to written and electronic enquiries from prospective study abroad (Freemover) and Affiliate

research students.

Processing applications of study abroad and affiliate students incoming to Stellenbosch University.

Liaising with academic staff and departments on semester course applications for non-degree seeking

students (Freemovers).

Assistance with orientation administration, registration of students and welcoming programme each semester.

Any other tasks as required by the International Student Mobility Unit.

Requirements: Computer skills in MS Office. Excellent organizational, administrative, interpersonal and time

management skills. Independent and innovative work ethic. Must be able to work under pressure. Good written

and spoken communication skills in English and Afrikaans. Must be available to work throughout student holidays,

all throughout the calendar year. Prompt availability as according to the set and agreed working hours. Work

Hours: 18 hours a week.

Recommendations: Previous administrative experience. Knowledge of German. Experience abroad is a bonus, but

not a requirement. Good academic records would be an indication of the applicant’s effective time management

skills. An indication of interest and availability for the year contract to be continued would be recommended.

Student Internship: Communication and Liaison

Job description:

Assists with populating content to PGIO websites according to instruction, and also independently when needed

(no previous web-coding knowledge necessary).

Assists with assembling content for relevant office newsletters and publications.

Performs marketing-related tasks as required, e.g. securing necessary approval and stamps at SRC, Neelsie

Management or relevant authorities to paste office advertisements on campus or where needed; signing off

design proofs at printers according to specifications and when needed; correspondence when requested, with

media stakeholders; assisting with the stocktaking of office publications and merchandise; etc.

Any other tasks as required by the PGIO environment.

Requirements: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially in English. Acute attention to detail and

accuracy, especially when populating website content or assisting with assembling newsletters or publications.

Good, systematic organisational, time management and administrative skills, computer skills in MSOffice. Must be

both a team-player and an independent, self-starter able to work under pressure. Must demonstrate a professional

work ethic with a client-centered approach. Must be able to work fixed weekly hours (including holidays).

Work Hours: 15 hours a week.

Recommendations: Knowledge of design packages like InDesign, Illustrator, etc. and website maintenance.
