Q10 Are you living with any young children? No

Q11 Are you living with a pet(s)? Yes,

It is possible to find a place in Minneapolis with reasonablepet rent or deposits! I highly recommend looking outside ofdowntown/loring park for pet friendly apartments both interms of available space/green areas for the pets andaffordability.

If so, please indicate how this impacted your housingsearch/selection.:

Q12 How do you commute to St. Thomas Law? I drive and park in the USTramp

Q13 How did you find your current housing situation? Apartment Search provider,

Craigslist

Q14 Did you live in your current housing prior to startinglaw school?

Yes

Q15 What advice would you give an incoming student?

While it is really appealing to live in downtown Minneapolis to be close to school and close to all the action, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND looking in other areas of Minneapolis/St. Paul. There are so many wonderful neighborhoods with affordable rent, walkable areas, fun places to go, and close to public transit to get to downtown easily.

Q16 Are there any resources or options you wish wereavailable to help find housing?

Respondent skipped this question

Q17 Please provide any comments you think would be helpful for incoming students regarding your currenthousing/neighborhood, or other housing options you think they should explore.

Look at neighborhoods outside of downtown! East Isles, East Phillips, Seward, even in St. Paul! It is very nice to be able to get a "break" from being downtown for school and go home to a chill, quiet, safe neighborhood.

Q18 Are you a St. Thomas Law student ambassador? Yes

Q19 Would you be interested in becoming a HOUSINGambassador for our incoming JD and LLM US Lawstudents? Note: The LLM in US Law will be allinternational students.

Yes

Q14 Did you live in your current housing prior to startinglaw school?

No

Q15 What advice would you give an incoming student?

Living right next to campus is very expensive but in my opinion worth it for the first year. I plan on moving further away and spending less on rent for the next two years but it has been awesome and a great way to make sure you are able to go to school events, be able to grab things you forgot at home, and not worry about weather or downtown traffic to get to school.

Q16 Are there any resources or options you wish were available to help find housing?

More like a compiled list of where people have lived (specifically) and costs and roommates.

Q17 Please provide any comments you think would be helpful for incoming students regarding your currenthousing/neighborhood, or other housing options you think they should explore.

I live at One Ten Grant right now. I have a cat and my roommate has a dog. We each pay right around $1000/month for rent but lots of utilities are included, they threw in free garage parking when we were being wishy washy about signing the lease, the staff is very friendly, the apartments are quite nice, it is very close to school, and at least six or seven other law students also live in the building. Other popular options for apartment buildings near campus are: Anything in Laurel Village, Bolero Flats, LaSalle Apartments, and then a bunch of smaller more independently owned apartments around campus.

Q18 Are you a St. Thomas Law student ambassador? No

Q19 Would you be interested in becoming a HOUSINGambassador for our incoming JD and LLM US Lawstudents? Note: The LLM in US Law will be allinternational students.

No

Personally, I like living in Laurel Village because it is one of the most affordable options in the downtown area, but it still has many amenities. Also, being right on Hennepin Ave. feels a bit safer to me than being in the Loring Park neighborhood, although I know there are many students who live in Loring Park.

Q16 Are there any resources or options you wish were available to help find housing?

Maybe more information on how transit can pair with certain locations.

Q17 Please provide any comments you think would be helpful for incoming students regarding your currenthousing/neighborhood, or other housing options you think they should explore.

West St. Paul and the East metro generally is over looked. The cost is low but if you want to be social in your home with other law students it can be prohibitive. I lived in St. Louis Park and that was very convenient. I'd also recommend looking at Eagan.

Think about time, and you may be living somewhere less expensive but spending time in traffic. Think about what you want out of an apartment, and if you don't care about amenities or if you are going to pay membership for a gym. If you're going to have a car and want garage vs lot parking.

I live downtown in the Laurel Village complex and am super happy with it. Yes, it's expensive but I think it evens out because now I don't have to commute or pay for parking passes, or have a gym fee. Everything is super close by - within a couple blocks - including school, art, parks, groceries, food, and a bunch of activities. It's a great location to have friends over because of all the activities. I have never felt unsafe and I've had good experiences with my building's management.

Don't be afraid of biking. Minneapolis bicycle infrastructure is among the best in the nation. Local bike shops host winter riding expos, and they can get you set up to ride comfortably even during the coldest months. It's less expensive than parking/car payments/gas, more convenient than figuring out parking, and you are guaranteed to stretch your legs and move your body at least twice a day.

Spring and summer are just awful for finding good housing. If at all possible, search for housing November through March... you could even consider short-term housing to make it through the first few months. I've found that there is better value in the market and landlords are more responsive when you're not fighting the crush of undergrads and other people looking for housing.

Yes, the options I saw from the school's website were apartments right in downtown Minneapolis. They were completely unrealistic for a student budget, and didn't account for people who want a different lifestyle than downtown provides.

Q11 Are you living with a pet(s)? Yes,

I’ve found pet friendly apartments to be pretty common inMinneapolis - but you may have to be willing to pay more!

If so, please indicate how this impacted your housingsearch/selection.:

Q12 How do you commute to St. Thomas Law? I walk to/fromschool

Q13 How did you find your current housing situation? Apartment Search provider

Q14 Did you live in your current housing prior to startinglaw school?

No

Q15 What advice would you give an incoming student?

It was helpful living so close to campus during my first year. Living anywhere in Minneapolis is expensive so make sure you live in a place that you don’t mind paying the high premium for.

Q16 Are there any resources or options you wish were available to help find housing?

CORT helped me a lot
