2017 Homecoming Overview & ScheduleThe University of Arkansas at Little Rock’s Home Sweet Homecoming 2017 will consist of several exciting events, including Homecoming Royalty elections, Champions Cup competitions, the Trojan Alley Tailgate, and of course - Trojan basketball! The theme for this year’s homecoming will be Home Sweet Homecoming, Celebrating 90 Years of Institutional Excellence. Organizations will compete with one another during individual competitions, and for the overall title of Champions Cup!

Homecoming Events * Counts towards Trojan Spirit Stick

Homecoming Information SessionsOn Monday, Oct. 23, Tuesday, Oct. 24, and Wednesday, Oct. 25, the Homecoming Committee will hold information sessions for all participating groups in room 201A of the Donaghey Student Center. Important information concerning timelines, locations, and guidelines will be discussed at these sessions. Any group competing in any part of the Homecoming Champions Cup Competition (to include individual awards), must send a representative to one of these sessions. Groups that fail to do so will be disqualified from all homecoming competitions. If there are extenuating circumstances that prevent attendance, please contact the Student Experience Center. No make-ups will be scheduled after Monday, Oct. 30.

Champions Cup GuidelinesThe Champions Cup competition will include individual competitions with organizations earning points for participation or performance. The highest combined score across the individual competitions winning the Champions Cup.

Homecoming Royalty Voting- 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30 & Tuesday, Oct. 31Homecoming Royalty elections will be voted on in the foyer of the DSC from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 30, and Tuesday, Oct. 31. The Homecoming Court (top 7) will be announced at noon on Monday, Nov. 6 at the Maroon Madness event. The Homecoming Court will be presented and the Homecoming Royal will be announced at halftime of the basketball game on Saturday, Nov. 11.

Maroon Monday - 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6Come kickoff Home Sweet Homecoming with a sandwich board competition and the Homecoming Court announcement.

Throwback Thursday Karaoke*- 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9Warm up your vocal cords to join Green Dot in a 90’s edition karaoke. Organizations will participate for points towards the Champions Cup, and then participation will be open to all.

Cardboard Boat Regatta*- 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10Participating groups will design and build a cardboard boat and then compete against other groups in a competition at the DSC Aquatic Center. The homecoming theme should be incorporated in this event. All points earned in the competition will go towards the Champions Cup. Awards will be presented at the regatta in several other categories.

Pep Rally & Women’s Volleyball Game*- 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10Come cheer on the Trojans at the Homecoming Pep Rally and stay to watch our Women’s Volleyball team play Arkansas State.

Trojan Alley Tailgate - 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11The tailgate party will be in front of Jack Stephens Center. Trojan Alley will feature food trucks, games, inflatables, and live radio broadcasts. Please see Appendix V for the Trojan Athletics’ tailgating policy.

Golf Cart Parade- 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11Participating groups will have the opportunity to design and display decorations for a golf cart. The homage to our 90th anniversary should be incorporated in this event by decorating carts in 90’s television shows. Decoration of golf carts will take place Friday, Nov. 10, in the upper level of the parking deck. Organizations can come anytime between 2-5 p.m. and decorate their golf cart. On Saturday, Nov. 11, each organization will parade down from the Trojan Lane through the designated track to the Jack Stephens Center. The winner of this competition will receive a trophy, $100 award, and points towards the Champions Cup.

Homecoming Game - 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11Little Rock Trojans home game against Ouachita Baptist University will begin at 3 p.m. in the Jack Stephens Center. Homecoming Royalty, individual competition award winners, and the Champions Cup winner will be announced at halftime.

Champions Cup Point and Scoring Breakdown

The Champions Cup Competition will be divided into separate events, with winners receiving points for each event, and the organization with the most cumulative points will receive the Champions Cup and a $200. The individual competitions include:

All homecoming events will be decided by a panel of judges designated by the Homecoming Committee. All winners will be announced at halftime of the basketball game on Saturday, Nov.11, and winning organizations or groups must be in attendance to receive their trophy and winnings.

Homecoming RoyaltyNomination ProcessEach registered student organization, fraternity/sorority, varsity sports team, or residence hall may sponsor one cadidate. It should be noted that each candidate will represent your organization and should ideally show a stong committment to UA Little Rock, and active campus involvment. Each candidate will be voted on for Homecoming Court by the student body. This year the Homecoming Royal will receive a $500 textbook stiepend, and have the opportunity to be involved with an on campus event through the Student Experience Center.

RequirementsHomecoming candidates must:

- Be a full time student (enrolled in at least 12 hours)

- Have at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA

- Have completed at least 30 hours at UA Little Rock, 60 hours total

- Be in good standing with the University

- Submit the 2017 Homecoming Registration Form and the Cadidate Agreement Form to the Student Experience Center no later than 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 25, 2017.

CampaigningEach candidate is to campaign in good taste. UA Little Rock posting policies apply to all campaign materials. Candidates may post flyers and posters in the Donaghey Student Center in addition to public bulletin boards. All campaign materials must be approved and stamped by the Student Experience Center. Candidates may continue to campaign the days of voting on October 30-31 in the Donaghey Student Center, except in the solicitation area where voting takes place.

VotingThe student body will vote for the Homecoming Royal. Only enrolled students are eligible to vote. Voting will take place on October 30-31, 2017 in the Donaghey Student Center. The top 7 candidtaes who will participate in the Homecoming ceremony will be announced on Monday, November 6 at Noon in the Donaghey Student Center Mall Area.

Requirements if you are selected to be on Homecoming Court- Attend Homecoming Practice on Thursday, November 9 at 9 a.m.

- Attend the Homecoming game on Nov. 11, and stay for the duration of the game.

- Attire for Homecoming Court is business. Candidates and their escorts should wear a suit. Please note that each candidate must have a suit coat. Failure to wear appropriate attire will result in dismissal from the Homecoming Court.

Trojan Spirit StickGeneral RulesThe Trojan Spirit Stick will be awarded to the team that displays the greatest level of involvement throughout Homecoming. Teams will be awarded points based on the percentage of their members who attend designated events. Members of participating student organizations / fraternities/ sororities/ varsity sports teams / residence halls will sign-in at each event, and points will be awarded according to the proportion of the group’s overall membership that is in attendance.

Each group will be required to submit a Trojan Spirit Stick Roster along with their registration packet. Groups are required to include, at a minimum, (a) 75% of their active members, or (b) 20 students, whichever number is smaller.

For example, if my student organization has:

15 Members Roster should have at least 12 members

400 Members Roster should have at least 20 members

At each of the designated events, there will be a Trojan Spirit Stick Sign-In Table, worked by a member of the Homecoming Committee. There will be a binder for each participating group, with a blank roster for each event. Group members will sign the roster for the event they are attending. Roster sign-ups will be used to award a possible five points for each of the following events, for a total of 15 points possible across these events:

3. Trojans Around the Court

4. Throwback Karaoke

5. Cardboard Boat Regatta (Rosters Available Until 1:30 pm at the Event)

6. Volleyball Game

The following rubric will be used to award points, based off the percentage of members signed in on the Trojan Spirit Stick roster for the events listed above:

• 20% – 2 Points • 40% – 3 Points • 60% – 4 Points • 80% – 5 Points

Sandwich Board Competition- 11:30 a.m. * Counts towards Trojan Spirit Stick

Organizations wishing to participate in the sandwich board competition must submit the drawing submission form (Appendix IV) to the Student Experience Center no later than 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 30 to be considered for eligibility. Supplies will be available in the Student Experience Center until 4:30 p.m on Oct. 30. Organizations must use supplied board. Boards may only be painted and must be waterproofed.

Organizations will be judged based on the following criteria:

- Inclusion of organization name on both sides of sandwich board

- Incorpration of Homecoming theme

- Matching original artwork submission

- Uniqueness & creativity

- Craftmanship (design detail and effort)

- Visual appeal

Completed sandwich boards must be placed in the designated location within the Donaghey Student Center Mall between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Nov. 6. Judging will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 6. All boards must be removed from the Donaghey Student Center Mall by Friday, Nov. 10 at 4:30 p.m., but may be placed at organizational tents during the Trojan Tailgate on Nov. 11. Points will be deducted from any organizations not adhereing to the scheduled dropoff or removal of boards. Any organization found in violation of vandalizing or stealing another teams board will be disqualified from all Homecoming competitions.

Homecoming Court AnnouncementHomecoming Royalty will be voted on in the foyer of the DSC from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 30, and Tuesday, Oct. 31. The Homecoming Court (top 5) will be announced at noon on Monday, Nov. 6 during the Maroon Madness event. The Homecoming Court will be presented and the Homecoming Royal will be announced at halftime of the basketball game on Saturday, Nov. 11.

Trojan Trek Prediction Run/Walk * Counts towards Trojan Spirit Stick

4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6 (Pre-registration begins at 3:30 p.m.)

Donaghey Student Center East Enterance (adjacent to Coleman Creek)

Run, jog, walk, or stroll a 2.5 mile course along Coleman Creek Trail at your own pace. What is your own pace? You tell us! Guess your finish time before you start. Prizes will be awarded to participants who finish closest to the time they predict. The race will begin promptly at 4 p.m., so arrive early!

Event Rules:

- No watches, cell phones, or other time keeping devices allowed on the course. Race staff may disqualify participants seen viewing a timekeeping devie.

- Prizes will be awarded to participants whose finish time is closest to their predicted finish time.

- Participants wearing maroon shorts or shirts will be eligible for additional prizes!

Heart of a Trojan TuesdayNoon, Tuesday, Nov. 7

Donaghey Student Center Upper Concourse

A survey of the UA Little Rock community found that more than 50% of our students and staff experience food insecurity, or know someone who is food insecure. In response to this need, the Office of Community and Career Engagement, in collaboration with numerous campus partners, opened the UA Little Rock Trojan Food Pantry. The UA Little Rock Trojan Food Pantry is open to all UA LIttle Rock students, faculty, and staff.

Food Drive - 12 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7 A competition with a heart! Competing organizations will conduct a food drive of needed UA Little Rock Food Pantry items. Each item will be designated a point value based on the needs of the food pantry. The organization with the most cumulative points will win! Organizations must have donations in the Donaghey Student Center Upper Concourse at noon on Tuesday, November 7. Each organization must have one representative present. Donations will be counted and tallied on site.

Shooting Stars- 7:15 p.m. startTeam members will shoot from different spots on the court. Teams must contain 3 teammates and be co-ed.

Warm up your vocal cords for Green Dot Throwback Thursday Karaoke, I Love the 90’s edition! Organizations wishing to participate should indicate their 90’s song of choice on the Champions Cup Registration form. All selections will be the edited version. Organizational representatives must wear 90’s themed attire for their performance.

Organizations will be judged based on the following criteria:

- Energy

- Crowd Enthusiasm

- Attire

Participating organizational representatives will need to arrive by 3:45 p.m. Performance order will be drawn from a hat at 3:50 p.m. and the first performance will begin at 4 p.m. After all competing organizations have performed, the stage will be open to general karaoke. Any organization deviating from the submitted selection or using lewd or inappropiate language or gestures, will be disqualified from all Homecoming competitions.

Cardboard Boat Regatta * Counts towards Trojan Spirit Stick

General Rules

All Cardboard Boat teams must register at www.imleagues.com/UALR

Allowed Supplies: • Corrugated cardboard • Elmer’s wood glue • Liquid nails • Duct tape • Water-based paint

Forbidden Materials: • Cardboard manufactured for shipping (waxed, weather sealed, rolled, pressed, reinforced, etc) is not allowed • Fiberglass resins and plastic epoxies • Metal • Plastic • Foam core boards or styrofoam • Pasteboard or chipboard types of cardboard • Non-corrugated cardboard • Cardboard that has been factory coated with wax • Metal foils

Other Rules: 1. Boats must be made entirely of corrugated cardboard and propelled by human power using paddles,

oars, etc. (Canoe and kayak paddles and oars are allowed, plastic only)

2. Boat inspections and captains meeting are at noon and the Regatta starts at 1 p.m. sharp.

3. Boats and team members may not intentionally interfere with any other team or boat. (Failure to comply with this will results in immediate disqualification.)

4. All boats must be staffed with two team members.

5. The judges reserve the right to tear apart and/or inspect any boat.

6. Boats will have to maneuver a 25-meter (approx.) loop course in the DSC pool.

7. Competitors must remain in the boat to complete the event.

8. All teams must completely dispose of their boats after the completion of the event in the outside waste container.

9. You cannot wrap the entire boat with plastic or duct tape or any similar tape or wrap. Duct tape can only be used at the seams and stress points. However, you are allowed to reinforce all seams and stress points with tape before waterproofing.

10. Boats may not exceed more than 1-inch of cardboard thickness.

11. Contestants should take care to ensure that the construction of your boat does not include pointed projections and sharp edges that might cause personal injury.

12. Awards will be presented at the Cardboard Boat Regatta for the following: • Pride of the Regatta- This is awarded to the organization that has the most creative design and/or best use of cardboard. • Best Dressed Team- This is awarded the the organization with the most creative or elaborate team uniforms/costume. • Team Spirit Award- This is awarded to the most spirited team. • Titanic Award-This is awarded to the organization with the most spectacular or dramatic sink.

13. Teams can earn a maximum of 25 points towards the Champions Cup for winning in the categories.

Pep Rally - 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10Come cheer on the Trojans at the first pep rally of the season! Head coaches will share a few words and the UA Little Rock Pep Band will get the crowd going.

Women’s Volleyball Game - 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10 * Counts towards Trojan Spirit Stick

Come watch the last Women’s volleyball game of the season against rival Arkansas State! The game begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Jack Stephens Center. Attendance will be taken from 6:30-7 p.m.

Golf Cart Parade

Organizations are given the opportunity to decorate their golf cart anytime between 2-5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10. The parade will begin 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 at the Trojan Lane and will end at 1 p.m. at the Jack Stephens Center.

General Rules1. Each entry MUST be a celebration of UA Little Rock Spirit. In order to pay homage to our 90th

anniversary, organizations are encouraged to decorate carts as 90’s television shows.

2. Each organization must CLEARLY display their organization name on the front of the cart.

3. Decorations must NOT damage or deface the golf carts. The decorations must be temporary and removable. Items such as paint, glue, screws, nails, or wood may not be attached directly on the golf cart. If such practices occur your organization will be disqualified and charged for the full cost of repairs or replacement.

4. Decorations must NOT interfere with the proper mechanical functioning of the golf cart.

5. No more than 4 people are allowed to ride in each golf cart. No passengers may hang off the cart or ride on the roof.

6. Golf carts must stay on the designated track heading towards the Jack Stephens Center.

7. No passing, hitting, or bumping of other golf carts.

8. No stopping or delaying the progression of the parade.

9. Any organizations with questionable or distasteful costumes, music, or decorations will not be allowed to participate in the parade.

10. Organizations that do not completely clean their golf carts and properly dispose of all decorations and materials will be charged for cleaning and repair costs.

11. Students are encouraged to march along with their organizations cart.

If selected to be on Homecoming Court, I agree I will attend the court rehearsal and Homecoming game. Little Rock Athletics Tailgating PolicyA. OverviewTailgating has long been a tradition with sporting events, especially on the collegiate level. Nothing is better than gathering with other Trojan fans, fellow classmates, alumni, friends or family before home athletic events.

Tailgating is permitted on campus in parking lots and green space in and around Trojan Alley. Please follow all guidelines related to food/grilling, clean-up and risk management policies.

B. Respectful EnvironmentTailgating is a lively and family-friendly environment. While we want you to have an exciting experience, we ask that you be respectful of those surrounding you, being mindful of your choice of language and activity. Groups are personally responsible for making sure their guests act appropriately. Individuals are expected to conduct themselves in a manner respectful of the nature and character of the University. Persons acting in a disruptive, disrespectful or disorderly manner may be asked to leave the premises or be subject to citation. Please keep all music and audio at a volume level that is respectful of your tailgating neighbors. We want the tailgating experience to be enjoyed by all.

C. Tailgating LocationsAthletics Facilities (Basketball, Baseball, Soccer) ❒ Little Rock Athletics invites and encourages our fans to enjoy a great tailgate atmosphere prior to

designated home intercollegiate games. Tailgating in designated parking spaces, which limit other spaces from being occupied by a vehicle, is not permitted. Tailgating in any traffic lanes or pedestrian pathways is not permitted.

“Trojan Alley” Pre-Game Experience Basketball (Designated Games Only) ❒ Little Rock Athletics is proud to offer “Trojan Alley” for the pre-game enjoyment of all Trojan Fans.

❒ Opening/Closing: Tailgating areas will typically open for individuals to enter the Athletic Complex four (4) hours prior to tip-off on the selected game. All tailgating activity is to be completed within two (2) hours of the conclusion of each athletic event on the specific date of the tailgating function. Stadium public bathrooms will not be accessible until the ticket gates open 60 minutes prior to tip-off.

❒ Tents: Tents may be set up at any time prior to tip-off without stakes. Sand bags or water barrels can be utilized.

D. General Guidelines that Apply to All Tailgating

I. Clean-Up

❒ Please keep the University beautiful by placing all trash and recycling in the proper bins located throughout the tailgate areas, parking lots, and facilities for your convenience. All groups are responsi-ble for making sure their assigned tailgating area is cleaned prior to departing for the game.

❒ All trash/recyclable items must be picked up and sorted into proper receptacles. This includes trash around your assigned area. Trash should be closed in bags or trash containers.

❒ The University of Arkansas at Little Rock is a tobacco-free campus. The use of any tobacco product on cont. next page

campus is prohibited.

❒ All leftover food/beverages must be placed in proper containers and stored.

❒ All clean-up procedures must be completed before entering the venue.

❒ Tailgating spaces not completely cleaned prior to departure from university property could result in the loss of future tailgate privileges.

II. Food/Grilling

❒ Groups may bring their own picnic items and food to their tailgate area. Grilling permitted, but all grills must be elevated. All fires must be contained within grills. Extinguish charcoal fires thoroughly with water before leaving them unattended and remove extinguished charcoal from campus for dis-posal. Do not dump charcoal on the ground, grass or in dumpsters. Please be advised that grilling may be prohibited in a time of drought or extremely dry conditions. Should this be a consideration, proper announcements will be made on university websites and in the local media during the week preced-ing an affected game date.

III. Risk Management

❒ Groups tailgating must follow these risk management policies: Do not transport individuals in the back of trucks and don’t stand in or on the vehicles. Educate ALL group members and guests about the tailgate policies. Contact University Police, 501.569.3400, for all emergencies.

E. Consumption and Preparation of Food No food may be sold without proper university permit.

Propane and charcoal grills are the only permissible sources of heat for cooking. Burned coals and/or residue from cooking may not be permitted to make contact with the paved surface of the parking lot. Hot coals must be completely extinguished with water prior to leaving the tailgating site. Open flame fires, including fire pits, are prohibited.

F. Sales and SolicitationNo sales activities or solicitation are allowed on the university campus, including any/all tailgating areas, without permission from the appropriate university office. Only the university or its designated representatives will be allowed to sell merchandise.

Little Rock Athletics and your Trojans thank you for your attendance, support and cooperation. These guidelines were established for the safety and enjoyment of all fans. They are intended to provide an opportunity for everyone to come out early and have small, social gatherings. Enjoy the game and please be respectful of all other fans.
