Design requirements
• the intervention should be less invasive as possible;
• it should be reversible over time;
• it should make use of natural sustainable materials;
• it should maintain the structural characteristics of the
pavement;
• it has to guarantee adequate structural performance;
• the compatibility of the new materials with the residual
concrete which is in direct contact with the mosaic tiles has
to be assured.

Basis of the Design
In order to take into account the natural environment of the villa, which is characterized by high temperature and humidity changes, the strategy of the project has been oriented toward techniques that can avoid deformation of the supports, something that produce cracks on the screed and consequently damage to the mosaics.
•inclusion of fibers with a good tensile behavior in the
mortar/cement mix that could avoid the development of the
initial micro-cracks;
•use of natural fiber grids to avoid the use of metallic
reinforcements;
•use of mortars/conglomerates with near-zero shrinkage.

Flexural tests have been carried out on 8 plate specimens with different mixes
They have been considered as simply supported and they have been loaded at the mid span with an increasing load.
Three sensors have recorded the vertical deflection of the plate with the increasing of the load.
