RLA: Novel studies (A Wrinkle in Time, A Long Walk to Water, Old Yeller, Wizard of Oz, A Christmas Carol, Mary Poppins), comprehension strategies, elements of literature, language mechanics & usage, types of literature, reference skills & application, developing the writing process, vocabulary strategies, communication skills

Social Studies: US history (early20th century to present day): causes of key events; outcomes of WWI and WWII, impact of the Cold War; causes and effects of world conflicts; global causes of Great Depression; key figures, events, and philosophies of te US Civil Rights Movement

Math: Data analysis & probability, number sense, algebra, measurement, geometry

Science: Objectives build upon students’ science understanding from earlier grades and provide deeper understanding in six major content topics: weather and climate; space systems; waves and electromagnetic radiation; matter and energy in organisms and ecosystems; interdependent relationships in ecosystems; and human interactions

7th Grade CurriculumRLA: Four novel studies (Tuck Everlasting, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, The Giver, & Wonder) as well as a poetry unit, grammar unit, & literary devices unit

Social Studies: Ancient & Medieval Civilizations, including Ancient & Medieval China, Ancient Egypt, Mesoamerica, Africa, Greece, Rome and so much more

Math: One & two-step equations, fractions, decimals, ratios, proportions, & overlapping of all those concepts

Science: What look at what makes up our world (cells & atoms), biology, genetics & heredity, categorizing our world, robotics integration, STEAM experiments

8th CurriculumRLA: Four novel studies (The Coffin Quilt, Mouse, Ender’s Game, and more) comprehension strategies, language mechanics, literary analysis, literary techniques, sentence structure & development, writing skills, the writing process, vocabulary enrichment

Social Studies: WV Studies, from the PreColumbian period to the present day. Special emphasis placed on the interdependence of geographic, cultural, political, environmental and economic factors affecting the development and future of our state. All 8th grade students will participate in the Golden Horseshoe test as well as real-time and virtual field trips.

Math: Number operations, number relationships, proportional reasoning, expressions, equations, inequalities, geometry, data analysis and probability

Science: Five major content topics: structure and properties of matter; chemical reactions; growth, development and reproduction of organisms; natural selections and adaptation; and human interactions. In all classes, there is a focus on several practices which include planning and carrying out investigations; developing and using models; analyzing and interpreting data; using mathematical and computational thinking; obtaining, evaluating, and communicating information; and engaging in argument from evidence
