A stroke occurs when the blood supply to the brain is interrupted. This interruption can be caused by the bursting of an artery or a blockage, which then fails to supply the brain with sufficient oxygen and nutrients, therefore causing brain cells to die.

It is important to seek immediate medical advice and engage in a post-stroke rehabilitation program. These programs are designed to promote recovery of partially damaged brain cells and retrain skills that were affected.

Depending on the severity of the stroke, some brain cells may not be repaired and long term functional implications may be present.

With the use of innovative adaptive equipment, assistive devices and daily living aids, a stroke sufferer has an opportunity to maintain as much of their independence as

possible to lead an empowered and healthy lifestyle.
