A word from our President It occurs every year, or maybe it is just the fact
that I am getting older, but each season seems
to accelerate as the weeks go by. There is al-
ways so much to do in such little time.
It felt like it was only yesterday that the 80th
sub-committee sat down and planned out a date
and venue. And now we are less than 4 weeks
away. Over 150 tickets have been booked but
there is still room for more! Contact Emma for
tickets.
Then there are the BBQ’s. Nat Fahey and Jenny
Middleton raised the issue of dates last Novem-
ber and now we have raised over $500 from
two BBQ’s thanks to the efforts of the 2nd
grade women and B-Pool men.
On the field, (and I know I keep mentioning it), I
was bragging (but secretly panicking) about
how we would get a veteran womens team.
Well here we are half way through the season
and we have become competitive.
So what is the aim of all of this! Get moving,
don’t miss out, whether that is a ticket to the
80th dinner, a wine pack or the early bird subs
discount, you don’t want to miss out on anything
that is fantastic about the Derwent Strikers.

Welcome—Stefan Gallaghar We welcome international player Stefan Galla-
gher to the Premier League Men. Stefan whilst
hailing from Ireland, has just spent our summer
playing in the top league in Spain. Please make
Stefan welcome to the club.
Wanted Players—Melbourne From the coach at Kew Hockey Club. Our women’s
team has this year returned to the top level Pre-
mier League competition and whilst we are play-
ing good hockey and matching or even out playing
our opponents in general play, we are in desper-
ate need of a high quality striker/goal scorer. We
are looking for an interstate player. We can offer
full board and accommodation with the family of
our captain Rebecca Gale. In addition the club is
prepared to cover the cost of airfares as well as a
weekly payment to cover any expenses (to be dis-
cussed). A suitable candidate would be a high
quality striker or goal scoring, attacking mid field
player—If you are interested contact Steven
White at Kew Hockey Club
BBQ’s UNDERWAY Fundraising BBQ’s are well underway. The first
BBQ was on Saturday 23rd May and the 2nd
grade girls raised an outstanding $221.05. (see

youngest Derwent members Ella)
The second BBQ was on the 13th June and was
run by Michael Howarth, Kathy Fahey, Jo Byrne,
Jenny Middleton and the 4th Grade Men. They
raised over $290.00. A great effort by all.
