Austrian painter CLEMENS HASENGSCHWANDTNER has lived in Malta for many years, absorbing its many eccentricities and painting while staying true to his mind’s eye and effervescent personality – bright and colourful. His landscape paintings bring Malta to life in a new, vibrant and imaginative way while his other - more risqué - artworks are blatantly uninhibited, provocative and sexual.
JAMES MICALLEF GRIMAUD has gained fame in Malta for his large-scale graffiti art and paintings on canvas. He is a fine art graduate who has found a unique style by incorporating a number of different mediums including spray, oils and acrylics; creating a fusion between street art and traditional art. His use of colour provides his paintings with a certain contrast that gives life to what is being portrayed.
Parisian, born and bred, JULIEN VINET has found his new home in Malta after many years in Japan where he was inspired and fell in love with Japanese drawing techniques. He has since found his own style - while still following the teachings of his Japanese Master - drawing what he feels inclined to, while also being influenced by his knowledge for graphic design.

Photographic artist KRIS MICALLEF has continually taken his art to new heights over the years – experimenting with colour, fabrics, geometry and light. Kris has a particular fascination with fashion photography, and has created one unique piece for this year’s Stretta Festival, that stylistically follows on from his recent collection of nudes exhibited this year at Blitz gallery in Valletta – where he present-ed beautiful bodies juxtaposed with mysterious backgrounds. This ‘Michelange-lesque’ piece, fun and free, echoes his vision for Stretta and the free-spirited festivities that Strait Street has been all about.
Photographic artist PETER MERCIECA has a fascination for the natural – but not as we see it. His focus is on minute details from natural landscapes - details that some may ignore or not even notice with one’s eye. His artworks, however natural and serene can be compared, however, to the hidden agenda of Strait Street of yesteryear: things are not always what they seem when seen from the outside, and that is most true of Strada Stretta, but it is the closest to nature you will ever be!
