MICROBIAL THREAT: Streptococcus pyogenes

MICROBIAL THREAT: Streptococcus pyogenes

Streptococcus pyogenes has recently been the cause of a bacterial outbreak in Essex, UK with fatal consequences.

Streptococcus pyogenes causes Group A streptococcal (GAS) infection and can be fatal if it enters normally sterile body sites such as blood, bone or organs. Streptococcus pyogenes in sterile body sites causes an

invasive (iGAS) infection.

The outbreak was heavily reported in the media by outlets such as the BBC, which confirmed in September 2019 that 14 people had died as a result of the outbreak.

GAS is spread through sneezing and coughing and is particularly dangerous to very young, elderly or immunocompromised people.

SHOT, JET and DUEL are bactericidal and specifically tested against Streptococcus pyogenes. The products prevent the spread of Streptococcus pyogenes contamination and help to protect the lives of patients at risk of GAS and iGAS infections.

SHOT, JET and DUEL are:

effective against bacteria, spores, mycobacteria, viruses, fungi and yeast in accordance with the European Norm (EN) test methods stipulated in EN 14885:2018

tested specifically against Streptococcus pyogenes in accordance with the surface wipe test EN 16615

TRISTEL’S SPORICIDAL SURFACE DISINFECTANTS ARE EFFECTIVE AGAINST STREPTOCOCCUS PYOGENES
