Conclusion and recommendation• Aflatoxin has received attention due to their significance in

agricultural loss and human health.• Permitted maximum limit of aflatoxins in some foods vary from

country to country. It is usually depending on the status of country (importing or exporting country).

• Permitted maximum limit of aflatoxin in some foods should be setrealistically to protect the public health.

• Regulation (Food safety Objective and Performance Objective) should be food chain approach and not fragmented

• Estimated cancers/year due to consumption of peanut and peanut sauce for pecel, gado-gado, karedok based on the food consumption data in 2007 and prevalence of Hepatitis B (10%) in Indonesia isabout 230 persons.

• To estimate the actual figure of cancer cases due to aflatoxin, the dietary intake data should include other peanut-based products and other foods which might contain less aflatoxin but provide high exposure to aflatoxin.

Conclusion and recommendation

• Intervention and management option should be based on the risk assessment throughout the food chain

• Comprehensive risk factors for aflatoxin production in some commodity all along with food chain should be identified for management strategy as a basis of intervention.

• Strengthening a partnership, such as a consortium is needed for effective control of aflatoxin. All stakeholders should involve in the partnership, such as farmers, processors, consumers, regulators, extension workers, food inspectors, doctors, veterinarians, researchers, and academician.

• Advancing the real program in stepwise approach is needed, such as via integrated pilot project, replication and enhancement in larger scale.

• The agenda includes public health, research, technology, market, trade and food safety promotion.
