Strategies for Facebook Posts:

Schedule when most are online Post consistently Target posts to certain audiences-not sure I agree with this one Keep images and text fresh and timely Respond to comments-it lets others know you are watching Shorter posts receive more attention because many are accessing Facebook on mobile

devices Always check your links Have a more eye-catching photo for the profile picture Under Settings > Similar Page Suggestions, tic the box to include your page when

Facebook recommends similar pages. This simple tweak could become your greatest source of new Likes.

Engagement is highest on Saturday and Sunday mornings and thanks to Facebook’s native scheduling function your nonprofit can easily schedule weekend posts in advance.

Research consistently demonstrates that photos receive more engagement than any other type of post – despite Facebook’s insistence otherwise.

To bring attention to popular and important posts already shared, pin it to the top of your page.

If your nonprofit has the capacity to engage with fans via direct messages, turn on the messaging functionality in your settings. (?)

To enable fans to check-in to your page and thus share your page with their fans when they check-in, add your physical address to your page

To increase the Likes of your page, prominently feature Facebook icons above the fold on your website and/or blog and e-newsletter. Put the Facebook icon in the E newsletter

Complete your About Section

Your About section speaks volumes about your business — and it’s the first thing most visitors will read.

Notice the website URL in Post Planner’s About section. This is definitely a best practice.

List your website’s URL as the 1st item in your About section — and without the typical “http://” (you don’t need it).

From there, put in something descriptive about your brand that conveys what you do.

Ideas for Posts:

Encourage viewers to follow posts on Twitter too Do a share v like poll. Example: Ask for a favorite and post qualities about what each preference means. Example: Beatles

v Rolling Stones. Those who like Beatles are more likely to volunteer for an environmental org. and Rolling Stones favor volunteering for homeless shelters. I’ll look for a study that is something like this.

Ask a survey-What would you change about a volunteering experience or what was your best experience and why.

State “if you are a fan of this post, like this post.” Give viewers a sneak peek at an upcoming event. Example: the Volunteer Awards Do something that gives advice or teaching something new-a youtube video on how to

use the web site Ask people to share a photo of a great volunteer experience Human interest story Photo contest for: biggest volunteer group, messiest volunteer experience,

Posts for the remaining days of the week:

Unfamiliar Friday-post about orgs that people may not know about, Famous Friday-pics of a famous person and the org they are involved with, Festive Friday-post an upcoming event, Faithful Friday-post openings at local churches

Sunday Quote of the Week: inspirational or amusing, just a start for a new week. From Coke: “At this moment billions of people are smiling. Are you one of them?” Most of the time it should be relevant to volunteering. Add an adorable picture.

Skillful Saturday-post a opening with the skill needed, Stimulating Saturday-post openings that have a physical nature to them, Superb Saturday-? I just like the word superb, Smiling Saturday-post openings working with the public where you need to put a smile on your face, Saturday’s child works hard for its living-openings related to children
