The Smith Family is a nationalcharity that supports more than33,000 disadvantaged children
and young people, including morethan 7000 in Victoria, through ourLearning for Life program.
In January we get many calls fromstressed families who need help topay for school books and uniforms. We’ve just launched our Back toSchool Appeal and are encouragingindividuals and groups to sponsoran Australian child so we can helpmore children.
When I tell people The SmithFamily focuses on helping kids withtheir education, they understandwhy. Without a good education, children and young people are morelikely to become disadvantagedadults who struggle withunemployment, welfaredependency and poor health.
By helping disadvantagedchildren pay for books and uniformsand get extra support from tutorsand mentors, we hope the cycle ofdisadvantage will finally end.
The Smith Family’s Learning forLife program runs in 12communities in metro and regionalVictoria. The sponsorship can startat prep and continue to support thechild through primary andsecondary school and into tertiaryeducation.
Our dedicated Learning for Lifeworkers are also responsible for co-ordinating literacy, numeracy andpersonal development programs, including after-school learningclubs. Many of these programs havebeen developed throughpartnerships with schools, local andstate governments, and communityand business organisations workingtogether to give children in need
better opportunities to learn andprosper.
While we don’t run any programsin the Stonnington area, we get a lotof support from the community.Toorak, South Yarra and MalvernEast are in the top 10 most generous
suburbs when it comes to donationsto The Smith Family. We’re verygrateful for the support of donorsand volunteers. We might have justcelebrated our 90th birthday but thereal celebration doesn’t begin untilall Australian children get the
opportunities they deserve. We’reencouraging Stonnington residentsto become sponsors fordisadvantaged children through our2013 Back to School Appeal.

Full cemetery agrave concernBY EDDIE [email protected]
TOO LATE: Southern Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust’s Jane Grover says there IS only a handful of plots left in St Kilda
EDD

STONNINGTON’S closest cemetery,St Kilda, is all but full, according toSouthern Metropolitan CemeteriesTrust’s chief operating officer JaneGrover.
According to Ms Grover, theseven-hectare cemetery, whichopened on June 9, 1855, has fewerthan 20 plots available.
Springvale Botanical, MelbourneGeneral and Brighton Generalcemeteries all register as havingmore plots available.
The figures come as the state gov-ernment moves to review all of thestate’s cemeteries following con-cerns many metropolitan councilswill run out of plots by 2035.
In 2010, across all eight of thetrust’s cemetery sites, 290,608 plotsremained, or just 8.1 per cent, according to the state government’sCemeteries and Crematorium Unit’sreport.
The report, released this month, gives estimates on the remainingcapacity of Victorian cemeteries.
The report says the death rate inStonnington is steadily increasing; itis estimated to rise from last year’s378 deaths to 581 in 2035.
Ms Grover assured Stonningtonresidents that despite the lack ofspace at St Kilda, there was an estim-ated 25 years’ availability at othertrust sites.
“St Kilda, like Springvale and Mel-bourne General Cemetery, is a placeof prestige and houses plots ofentire families,’’ he said.
The Dandenong Road cemeteryno longer accepts requests for pre-purchased burial plots, but hasspace for cremations and memorial-isation.
“St Kilda is tight,’’ Ms Grover said.‘‘There’s no more than 10 or 20
sites available. People have boughttheir plots up to 30 years ago just toget in next to the rest of their family.
‘‘There is plenty of space at Brigh-
ton, Cheltenham and Springvale.”The trust is encouraging people
to explore Melbourne’s iconiccemeteries to discover fascinatingdetail about the city’s history.
St Kilda cemetery is the final rest-ing place of Australia’s second primeminister, Alfred Deakin; Victoria’s
first premier, Dr William ClarkHaines; and Christina RutherfordMacpherson who, along with BanjoPaterson, composed Waltzing Mat-
ilda.
The trust is developing itsBunurong site in Bangholme, nearPatterson Lakes, to accommodate
burials for the next 80 years.“There are some really old
cemeteries here in Melbourne thatare coming to the end of their life,’’Ms Grover said.

Parking finestop $7 millionBY EDDIE [email protected]
THE Stonnington Council has col-lected more than $7.1 million inparking fines in just six months fromJuly 1 after issuing 80,645 ticketsacross the municipality — morethan 3000 a week.
Most of the infringements werespread over Prahran, South Yarra,Windsor, Toorak, Malvern andArmadale.
The council’s acting-chief execut-ive Geoff Cockram said the parkingrestrictions were “to ensure turn-over of parking spaces to allow peo-ple to access vital services andshopping precincts”.
The figure came to light as theSheriff’s Office set up camp at Prah-ran Town Hall every Wednesdayfrom last week.
The stationed officer will advise
residents and help on outstandingfines, and is responsible for chasingwarrants, non-payment of fines, court sanctions and other courtorders.
High Street Armadale BusinessAssociation secretary and partowner of Connie Simonetti Couture,Aurelio Simonetti, was surprised bythe fines figure. He said parking onHigh Street had long been an issuefor the association and restrictionswere only going to get worse.
“The HSABA has had many discus-sions with council over solving theparking issues along the street, sug-gesting a number of locations for amultilevel carpark to keep shopperson the strip for longer,” he said.
“The figure takes into accountmany major shopping strips, but it isstill a huge amount of money tocome from just parking fines…becareful where you park.’’

Fee hike threatenscommunity learningBY EDDIE [email protected]
PRAHRAN Community Learning Centrechief executive Angela Stathopoulos fearsfor the centre’s future after the state govern-ment announced drastic fee hikes over thenext four years.
The government last week confirmedthat yearly fees for neighbourhood learningcentres across the state offering vocationalqualifications would rise from $300 thisyear to more than $2091 in 2016.
The fee increase will be applied to alltraining organisations registered with theVictorian Registrations and QualificationsAuthority, including Armadale not-for-profitorganisation Inclusion Melbourne andYooralla, which both offer VET courses.
Prahran Community Learning Centreoffers years 9 to 12 equivalent VCAL pro-grams and Youth Education for Life andLearning Access, a community educationprogram that helps prepare 13 to 15-year-
olds return to mainstream education.“It is very concerning because we are a
not-for-profit organisation and we do notcharge our students to come here,” Ms Stath-opoulos said.
PCLC currently has more than 40 VCALand YELLA students with many sufferingfrom behavioural and family issues, and oth-ers who have been forced out of main-stream education due to bullying andharassment.
“We run regular training sessions withteachers and staff to help support our stu-dents and the issues they face, some at ourown cost,” Ms Stathopoulos said, addingthat they would need to reassess services.
The fee increase will cover operatingcosts, according to Prahran MLA ClemNewton-Brown.
“The government is fully aware that pro-viders ... will need time to adjust to thisincrease, and that is why the VRQA’s moveto a full-cost recovery model will be phasedin over a period of four years,” he said.

■ RIGHT ON TIMEI don’t expect everything in this lifeto be perfect but but for Chrissakessome things should be easier thanthey are. Take public transport. I’vehad a running battle for years withmy local bus company because itsdrivers frequently run ahead of thetimetable. I accept that buses can belate -- bad weather, school kids andtraffic cause unavoidable delays. Butthere is no excuse for publictransport to run early, whether it’s abus, tram, train, ferry, hovercraft, zeppelin or flying carpet powderedby magical fairy dust.
Stick to the timetable, drivers. It’snot a bloody race.

■ TIME TO ACTPerhaps the sceptics should start totake climate change seriously now, following the recent heatwave.
No more excuses about historicaltemperature fluctuations, it’s timeto act. Switch off your applianceswhen not in use, think about foodmiles (are canned tomatoes from
Italy any better than local ones?), gofor a swim or have a cool showerinstead of putting on the air-conditioning, start a compost binand stop buying stuff you don’tneed, especially gifts – why notmake a charity donation instead?
Also worth considering are solarhot water (our gas bill goes down toless than $50 over summer), ceilingfans, double glazing and a watertank for the garden.
We can all do our bit. Get startednow, and the planet may thank you.

■ KEEP IT DOWNAfter the success of the ‘‘Dumb waysto die’’ campaign I am thinking ofstarting a similar program againstfoul-mouthed youths on our trains. There is nothing more horrible thana bunch of young people swearingat the tops of their voices while Ihave my small children with me.
Is it not possible to have aconversation without liberal use ofsome of our more ‘‘colourful’’language? I’m all for swearing in the
right context – at inane footballcommentary, fingers jammed indoors, and after discovering youhave a flat tyre – but can we pleasetone it down on public transport? There are words I just don’t want toexplain to a five-year-old.

■ THANK GOD THAT’S OVEROh god, worst Christmas, well Iwish there was only one (‘‘Not somerry Christmas’’, RL, December12). My roll call of disasters includesfamily fights (we try to get them outof the way early on in the day), theyear mum decided it would be‘‘fancy’’ to make cumquat brandy – itwasn’t fancy, by any measure: foodpoisoning for the whole family (butI did lose five kilos in a week); whathappened when nanna got stuckinto the scotch (we still can’t talkabout that one), and for a couple ofyears there a close family member orfriend died in December. Nothingsays the festive season like a tablefull of people crying.

Plan of actionEDDIE MORTON asks the movers and shakers of Stonnington about the key issues to address in 2013
The next year in Stonnington will be a decisive one with a new school pitched by politicians
and educators, a Supreme Court battle over ‘‘inappropriate’’ high-rise development and a move to safer roads for the growing number of cyclists in the area.
While 2012 may have proved disappointing on some key issues, community leaders are optimistic that 2013 will deliver change for the area and its residents.
Planning issues look likely to dominate once again, following on from last year when Lend Lease’s 590 Orrong Road development sparked community uproar after
VCAT overturned council’s refusal of a planning application for a 19-building high-rise development, despite more than 600 objections. Stonnington council will take its case to the Supreme Court on April 16.
The future of Swinburne University will also be a hot topic this year, following its July 13 announcement it will leave its High Street, Prahran campus. The announcement sparked a series of protest rallies, with teachers and students marching up Chapel Street and to the steps of State Parliament where they submitted petitions of more than 15,000 signatures to
opposition leader Daniel Andrews. Prahran MLA Clem Newton-Brown responded by launching an impassioned campaign and community consultation process to establish a Stonnington secondary school. There is currently no government secondary education school for Stonnington residents apart from the select-entry Melbourne High.
Cyclist safety will remain another pressing issue as riders continue to fume over Chapel Street’s alarming rate of dooring incidents, and press for better bike infrastructure on the bustling north-to-south bicycle route.
Stonnington council starts the new year with a younger, greener line up following the October municipal elections where six out of nine councillors were replaced. Two Greens Party candidates, Erin Davie and Sam Hibbins were elected in East and South ward respectively, while 20 year-old Jami Klisaris took her seat alongside veteran councillor John Chandler and Stonnington’s new mayor Matthew Koce in the North ward.
As the new year gets under way, we asked some of the community’s movers and shakers to fl ag what they believe will be the most pressing issues for 2013.
GARRY BRENNAN – BICYCLE NETWORK VICTORIA GENERAL MANAGERStonnington has the potential to be one of Melbourne’s most bike-friendly municipalities. The big challenge in 2013 is to ensure this potential is realised, or at least recognised and formalised as a target by the city.
Melbourne’s inner suburbs have been thriving with life as local authorities have prioritised public transport, bikes and pedestrians. Stonnington was in danger of missing the boat for this economic revival, but the recent council elections may have changed that.
Neighbourhoods come alive when designed for people, but die when they are choked with cars. A street that is designed to attract people on bikes is more friendly to all visitors; where you have people on bikes you have an attractive ambience.
We know people in Stonnington want to ride to work, to the shops and other attractions, but because of the fear of traffi c many people are scared to ride. So with more investment in good quality infrastructure, those people will have their choice respected.
Stonnington has a once-in-a-generation chance to redesign Chapel Street and transform it into one of Melbourne’s most attractive precincts. We are fi ghting for trams, bikes and pedestrians to be a priority.

LOCAL FEATURE
INSPECTOR ADRIAN WHITE – LOCAL AREA COMMANDERCrimes, particularly thefts of handbags and mobile phones left unattended in shops and licensed premises, coupled with assaults in the entertainment precincts will always be a heavy focus, but the primary issue I want to tackle in 2013 is in the area of mental health.
There is a large proportion of our community that suffers from signifi cant mental health illnesses. These people often lack the support they need to help them cope with their health issues and unfortunately many fall into the judicial system, which is not the best platform to address their needs.
There is already much being done within government and public sector circles to address this problem, and I will be doing what I can to assist. I want to ensure my staff are suffi ciently resourced to
deal with people suffering from poor mental health and I want to ensure those suffering from a mental health illness are treated with compassion and respect.
CLEM NEWTON-BROWN –PRAHRAN MLA I plan to focus this year on my goal of getting a new world-class local secondary school for our area. Our area is well serviced with private secondary schools (and the select-entry Melbourne High) but we do not have our own secondary school. Families are forced to either move out of the area when their kids reach year 7 or endure great inconvenience getting to schools in surrounding areas. I believe this is unacceptable.
The Albert Park Secondary College is a great example of how
a local school can be a thriving community hub.
Last year I secured funds for a feasibility study for a school for our area and I am currently assisting with this process by surveying local families. If you support a new local secondary school I need your help, so please contact me. There are still many hurdles to making a new school a reality, but I am committed to doing all I can to deliver this for the community.
ANN REID – FOUNDER OF THE MALVERN EAST GROUPThis year will be crucial for preserving the local character, amenity and liveability of our area as the state government fi nalises its Melbourne Metropolitan Planning Strategy (MMPS), a 30– to 40-year plan aimed at providing a guide to Melbourne’s land use and transport future.
We fear apathy could allow the strategy to slip through unnoticed and we’ll then have to deal with a planning strategy that, in our opinion, could be much worse than the one we have. We’re urging residents to express their views at planmelbourne.vic.gov.au before the feedback deadline on Friday, March 1.
The state government has declared a shortage of semi-detached dwellings and apartments in Melbourne’s middle suburbs and seeks to increase housing density in areas including
Armadale, Malvern, Malvern East and Glen Iris. The strategy calls for more ‘‘infi ll’’ housing and apartment blocks such as the seven-storey buildings recently approved near Clarence and Finch streets, Malvern East.
The strategy, based on recommendations from the Ministerial Advisory Committee, appointed by Planning Minister Matthew Guy, asserts increased density is unavoidable as Melbourne’s population is predicted to grow to 6.5 million plus over the next 40 years.
If we as a community work with the council to implement the state government’s newly proposed Neighbourhood Zone, which ‘‘restricts housing growth in areas identifi ed for urban preservation’’, we have a faint chance of curbing the actions of developers who continually show a total disregard for neighbourhood character.
MEG has written a submission regarding the Neighbourhood Zone and we will be making a submission to the MMPS. We are also preparing a survey on planning issues for our members and we intend to arrange an information session on the MMPS.
Planning issues of continued concern to Stonnington residents are the ever-expanding Chadstone shopping centre; Cabrini Hospital; the recent application for an 18-storey development on the corner of Dandenong and Tooronga roads, 590 Orrong Road; and the never-ending high-rises popping up in South Yarra’s Forrest Hill precinct and Chapel Street, which will spread into the suburbs beyond Prahran and Windsor.
We must work to stop developers’ endless targeting of Stonnington.
MATTHEW KOCE – MAYOR Planning and maintaining the amenity and liveability of our community are the biggest issues facing Stonnington today.
This continues to be a challenge, particularly given state government projections that Stonnington needs to house about 16,000 additional people between now and 2031.
The council is fi ghting for the community to have a greater say in determining which developments are appropriate and which are not. The council will shortly be representing the community in the Supreme Court, appealing VCAT’s approval for 466 dwellings at 590 Orrong Road.
We are also working with state and federal government bodies to advocate for the services required by a growing population, including: better public transport and roads, a public secondary school, upgrading the unsafe and congested South Yarra train station, and separation of the antiquated and dangerous rail crossings on Glenferrie Road, Toorak Road, Tooronga Road, Burke Road and High Street.
Stonnington has the second lowest percentage of open space in Victoria, a fact the council is working to address. We are, for the fi rst time, developing a comprehensive long-term public open space strategy to enhance the quality and quantity of open space.

TRIED IT
The festive splurge sits heavily on the hips; January is the time to start the tough road back to
fi tness. I chose to shock my body into submission with a session of CrossFit.
It sounds nice and caring, but it’s more like a heavy-duty bootcamp that, at times, feels like a fi ght for survival. JT, aka Justin Tempelhof, is a personal trainer who puts clients
JACQUI HAMMERTON gets physical with a tough New Year training session
through a carefully planned workout in his boutique gym. It is endlessly adaptable by tweaking load and intensity, so everyone – students, mums, professional athletes – can do it. Flexible memberships range from $140–$280, depending on attendance at the morning and evening sessions.
The VerdictThis is one serious adrenalin charge. Upon arrival, JT discusses our injuries, weaknesses and goals, and notes our next of kin (gulp). The one-hour class starts with warm-up and loosening tight muscles while absorbing the day’s program scrawled in Texta on the mirror. JT drives and nurtures the group of eight, correcting technique and making sure we get away with absolutely nothing. Our group works in pairs through fi ve-minute sets of pull-ups, push-ups and squats, aiming to beat each previous round. My muscular soreness over the following days was a sure sign that CrossFit gave me a New Year wake-up call.

When Cirque du Soleil’s OVO rolls into town this week, so will a kitchen, a
school, offi ces, warehouses, around 54 performers from 16 countries and a roster of more than 120 behind-the-scenes staff. That’s not including the props – an 18 x 6m wall with built-in trampolines, a six-metre high mechanical fl ower and an 8.5m x 6.7m mysterious egg that is the object of curiosity and wonder for the insects at the centre of the OVO narrative.
The numbers are staggering, and getting it all to Australia took six weeks by ship from Seattle to Brisbane, where the show had its Australian debut in September.
For assistant artistic director Jen Bender, working on such a large production with a huge but tight-knit ‘‘family’’ has been the highlight of her career, allowing her to have cocktails with former Olympians one night and dinner with Chinese acrobats the next.
‘‘We’re always together for meals and the OVO company travels together like a touring city,’’ she says.
‘‘Cirque du Soleil is on such a grand scale and there are so many artists doing so many different things. We’ve got people who do acrobatics, hand-balancing acts,foot-juggling acts, trapeze. There’s just so much that happens in a single show.’’
OVO will be performed in the
CIRCUS
SU

familiar blue and yellow ‘‘tent city’’ from January 17 to March 24. Much like the animated fi lms A Bug’s Lifeand Antz, the story of OVO takes place in the microcosmic world of insects. When a mysterious egg appears (ovo is the Portuguese
word for egg), the colony is awestruck by the curious addition to their world, setting off a fl urry of activity represented through dance,fl ying acts, trapeze, diablo juggling and hand-balancing.
Many performers are professional
gymnasts, although there are some former Olympians. While former Cirque du Soleil shows have more of a high art approach to circus,Bender says OVO is particularly good for children.
‘‘It’s really bright and colourful
and energetic ... if people were wanting to introduce kids to the magic of circus and live theatre, this is defi nitely the show to do it with.’’

ENJOYING AUSTRALIA: Young Englishman Jack Taylor is making plenty of runsfor Glen Iris in Dunstan Shield cricket
KRIS
TIANSCO
TT
WITH the next Ashes series justaround the corner, you’ll soon behard pressed to find much goodwillin Australian cricket towards thePoms at the moment.
But down at Glen Iris CricketClub, they’re over the moon at theform of English import Jack Taylor, whose aggressive batting and bowl-ing is setting up his side for anassault on the Dunstan Shield finals.
Taylor, 21, entered the Christmasbreak as the competition’s leadingrunscorer with 432 at an average of54, including a Dunstan Shieldrecord 210 against Surrey Hill, and aswashbuckling 122 off 67 ballsagainst Mont Albert.
And he returned from his Christ-mas break on Saturday with 50 asGlen Iris reached 5/95 chasing EastDoncaster’s first innings of 130.
Taylor also has 16 wickets withhis off breaks to plACE Glen Iriscomfortably second on the ladder.
‘‘That was my first double [hun-dred] so it was pretty special,’’ Taylorsaid. ‘‘It’s always good to make runsand I think it’s flowed through andhelped my bowling.
‘‘I probably wasn’t getting theruns I wanted early in the season, but I’m a bit more focussed now andit’s paying off.’’
Taylor joined Glen Iris from Eng-lish county side Gloucestershire, where he is in the early stages of apromising first-class career. Andwhile he says it a different standardback home, he’s enjoying his timeDown Under.
‘‘County cricket is pretty full on,with international and England play-ers around you,’’ he said.
‘‘But I’m loving it down at GlenIris. They’re a good bunch of ladsand a pretty young side, which isgreat.’’
This is Taylor’s second trip to Aus-tralia after playing grade cricket inAdelaide two seasons ago, and he’senjoying the less hectic schedulelocal club cricket provides.
‘‘It was a pretty busy end to thecounty season last year so I justwanted the opportunity to comeout, train hard and work on mygame,’’ Taylor said.
While it’s still early days, Taylorhas lofty ambitions for his cricketingcareer.
‘‘The ultimate goal is Test cricketfor England. That’s the pinnacle ofthe game so that would be thedream,’’ he said.

Bowlers drag True Blues to finalBY EWEN MCRAE
PRAHRAN booked a place in thePremier Cricket one-day final after abizarre day’s play against FrankstonPeninsula at the weekend.
After managing only 125 with thebat after winning the toss, the TrueBlues skittled the hosts for 96 toearn a meeting with Melbourne inthe final on January 27.
Prahran made a horror start, los-ing prolific opener Adam Bull for aduck in the first over on a pitch thathad few demons in it.
Dan Salpietro and Simon De Bolfo
began rebuilding the innings, butwhen the former fell for 10 itsparked a collapse of 3/2 to reducethe visitors to 4/23.
Stephen Seymour, on his returnfrom his second hamstring injury ofthe season, and skipper Sam Coatesthen came together but found ithard to penetrate the field.
Coates fell for five and new manMatt Wilcox made nine before Sey-mour was out for a top score of 31.
At 7/73 things looked bad for thevisitors, but handy cameos from thelower order ensured the True Bluespasses 100 and gave themselves ashot at victory.
Then, once again, the True Bluesbowlers delivered as Seymour bow-led the dangerous Matthew Chase-more in the opening over and theever-consistent Rhys Adams snaredChris Dew for two.
None of Frankston’s top six couldreach double figures as Prahranreduced the hosts to 6/26.
And despite some fight by RobertSalerni (19) and James Miller (34),Frankston never looked like threat-ening the target.
Seymour’s fiery opening spell net-ted him 2-7, while Salpietro (3-19),Adams (2-13) and Wilcox (2-17) allweighed in.
Prahran coach Andrew Walton waspleased with the result, but said histeam needed to improve to retain theone-day crown won last year.
“Our top order seems to have onegood game and then one not as goodgame so we’ll be looking for morefrom them,” Walton said.
“It’s good that we get the chance todefend our title, and also good thatsome of our younger guys will get thechance to experience a final in thefirsts.”
Prahran is likely to regain Chris Ro-gers and Dimitri Mascarenhas fromBig Bash duty for the meeting withMelbourne.
Best of the season but not good enough for Malvern

A MAN IN FORM: Malvern’s Dean McAuley top-scored with 55 against Werribee
MALVERN knocked up its highesttotal of the season but still lost toWerribee in Sub District cricket atthe weekend.
Playing at home, Malvern hadcontributors right through the orderas they returned from the breakwith a bang to amass an imposing5/242 in the 45 overs. But Werri-bee’s batsmen were equally impress-ive, chasing down the target withfour balls to spare.
Malvern openers Liam Dunne andDean McAuley got their team off to asolid start with a 35-run stand beforeDunne was out for 13, bringingJames Lynch to the crease.
He was forced to play second fid-dle to McAuley as they built a 48-runpartnership of which Lynch madejust 12 before being trapped in frontby Adam Alifraco.
McAuley continued to plunderruns, moving to 55 before he wasout to leave Malvern with two newbatsmen at the crease.
Fortunately for the home side itwas two of their most in-form bats-men of the summer, and DamienHale and Tom Knight pushed thescore along at a brisk pace.
Hale was out for 47 following the68-run stand but the score contin-ued to tick along as Knight finishedon 48 not out and Monto Pererabludgeoned 33 off 15 balls at theend.
Werribee also started well withthe bat in the chase, moving to 45before Ajay Bhatt bowled DavidWolfe for 33.
Bhatt and Tim Arbon bowled tightspells but, for the most part, strug-gled to take wickets as Werribeestrung together three partnershipsof more than 40. But, Bhatt and Ar-bon apart, it was a forgettable dayfor Malvern’s bowlers as they leakedruns and lacked penetration.
While no Werribee player passed
50, they put themselves in a win-ning position with consistent per-formances down the order.
Needing just four from the final, aboundary off the second carriedWerribee to 5/243.
Malvern captain Simon Conwaywas left lamenting a poor day in thefield after a superb batting effort.
“It was a bit of a heartbreaker,”Conway said. “We just bowled toomany ‘four balls’ and a good battingside like will punish you.
“It was a good score for a one-dayer but it just wasn’t our day.”
Malvern is three games out offinals just four rounds to play.
